Caucasus Tours & Trips
Georgian wine in qvevri tastes like nothing else, Tbilisi's sulfur baths are wonderfully weird, and that aerial tramway to Tatev in Armenia is the world's longest. Vardzia's cave city is carved right into the cliffs, Baku's old city mixes ancient and modern brilliantly, and Mount Ararat's view from Armenia is stunning. Most people haven't heard of half these places, which makes discovering them even better.

Our tour through Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Armenia was unforgettable. Baku amazed me with its mix of modern and ancient charm. Georgia’s mountains, cuisine, and wine traditions were simply spectacular. Armenia’s monasteries, cuisine, wine and views of Mount Ararat left me in awe. The guides were knowledgeable, and the hospitality was heartwarming. This journey was a perfect blend of culture, history, and breathtaking scenery.

I had to postpone the trip. Laura from Silk Road said there was no cancelation fee or reschedule fee. I hope to reschedule the trip next fall.

- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter has fewer options but offers something special in the Caucasus. Our Georgia discovery tour adapts nicely to winter conditions, focusing on Tbilisi's historic areas, food workshops and lower-altitude wine regions. Our customers enjoy cozy evenings in family guesthouses, learning to make khachapuri cheese bread and warming up with local wines. For winter sports enthusiasts, the Georgia mountain tour includes skiing in Gudauri while still covering cultural sites and wine regions at lower elevations.

- Spring 2026
Spring works incredibly well for exploring the Caucasus, with our most requested tours really coming into their own. The full Azerbaijan-Georgia-Armenia circuit gets great feedback from our customers, especially when they catch the mountain passes filled with spring wildflowers. People love exploring the ancient petroglyphs at Qobustan before moving into Georgia's wine country as the first vines start budding. There's also a focused Georgia cultural tour where you'll cook with local families, visit Kakheti's wineries and see mountain communities preparing for farming season. Our 12-day three-country tour stands out for deep cultural connections - travelers particularly enjoy the spring festivals and learning how locals make wine in traditional qvevri clay vessels.

- Summer 2026
Summer opens up perfect conditions for mountain exploration in the Caucasus. The Georgia highlands hiking tour consistently impresses, especially the trek to Gergeti Trinity Church with wide mountain views in every direction. Our customers really appreciate the long summer days for wandering Tbilisi's old town and exploring Vardzia's cave city. The premium three-country tour works exceptionally well in summer months - you'll visit Armenia's high-altitude Lake Sevan, discover Azerbaijan's mountain villages and explore Georgia's Kakheti wine region when the vines are at their greenest. Active travelers love our Georgian hiking tour with its routes through Svaneti's valleys, nights in traditional tower houses and visits to remote mountain communities.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Autumn brings harvest time and our most popular tours focus on wine and food experiences. The Georgia wine regions cultural tour lets you join the traditional rtveli grape harvest and learn winemaking from local families. Our premium three-country journey really shines in fall - you'll see Armenia's monasteries surrounded by red and gold leaves, experience Azerbaijan's harvest festivals in mountain villages and join Georgia's wine country at its busiest. Our travelers tell us they love joining cooking classes with local families, learning to make Georgian bread and helping prepare harvest meals. The Georgia-Azerbaijan combo tour fits perfectly in autumn, with ideal weather for exploring Tbilisi's old quarter and visiting mountain communities preparing for winter. Among the Caucasus tour operators, Intrepid really delivers with solid itineraries that work well - their guides know the region inside out and our travelers consistently give them high marks. If you're looking at Georgia specifically, Glad Travel Georgia gets lots of love on TourRadar, especially from people traveling solo. They're quite flexible with customizing trips and making adjustments to suit different needs. Tour Georgia has had mixed feedback lately - they're not quite hitting the consistent quality levels you get with Intrepid. For Armenia specifically, The Caucasus Tours is doing great work, and their guide Mariam is particularly good. She knows Armenian history, culture and hidden spots in depth, and she shares it all with genuine enthusiasm. The thing about getting around the Caucasus is you really want an operator who understands the local dynamics and logistics. That's where companies like Intrepid and The Caucasus Tours shine - they've got those practical details sorted while keeping the cultural experiences authentic. Just keep in mind that in this region, having a knowledgeable guide makes a huge difference - it's not just about getting from A to B but understanding the complex history, traditions and also current situation in each area you visit.
