The Northern Thailand and Beaches trip with Ewan and Aido was absolutely phenomenal. Great guides, great guys, and I would go again in a heartbeat. They truly made the trip for me!

The accommodation was so much better than I expected and the activities on the tour were unforgettable! The whole thing was a dream, so well put together and with tour guides that made the experience 10x better!!!

The tour hit all the locations you'd want to see in Cambodia while also allowing for free time to relax when needed. The tour guides were all great, and all found the perfect balance between being super helpful guides while also being a really great bunch of people to hang around with and spend time with

David was my tour guide during the Cambodia part and he truly is an amazing human being. The Thailand part is so much fun; Ewan is a fun person and we all missed him afterwards, but the Cambodia part is amazing. I had never been to Cambodia before and David made sure I want to visit another time. He was always up for ideas and plans, I loved the fact that even though it was heavily raining we still went to the waterfall. I loved that so much; he is such a laid-back dude that looks like a big teddy bear. :) His hugs are amazing and he makes sure you feel comfortable. The group dynamic was amazing and I was so sad that he had to leave early. He made sure we got another tour guide, Aido. Rhisian was also part of the tour and she and David are both amazing people.
I will definitely do another tour again, maybe Vietnam. I hope to see you there, David! <3

On a super cool street, the food and drinks are so cheap, staff are incredibly friendly and there is a pool! All the Mad Monkey Hostels are absolutely wicked (PP, Kampot, Koh Rong Samloem and Siem Reap - stayed at Beach Road in Sihanoukville.) We had Hein as a guide with Aido training. Both are incredibly passionate about travel, love a beer and are so interesting to listen to about their past travel stories. The guides should be looked at as more of friends than guides. Friends who are helping you navigate a SE Asian country. I will warn you now - to be a Tru Traveller you need to leave your "first world problems" at home. You are travelling in a third world country so don't expect first-world hospitality and quick service but it's all part of the fun! Hein and Aido made sure we were all having a great time and definitely enjoyed a beer with the group at the end of the day. This tour is about getting to a destination, chilling, drinking, chilling some more and drinking some more. I recommend this tour for 18-25yr olds who love a party and chill day.
Some of my favorite activities:
- Boat cruise in Kampot
- s21 and the killing fields in PP
- Angkor Wat and the other temples
- Arcadia in Kampot
- Boat trip in Sihanoukville
- optional ATV sunset tour in Siem Reap (book yourself @ Mad Monkey Siem Reap).
- pay for your own tuk tuk in Sihanoukville to get to the beautifully secluded Otres II beach.
Get ready for long bus trips. I actually bought a $15USD ticket from PP to SR as I didn't fancy the drive which is totally okay to do.
Main things is leave your first world problems at home and chill out on Cambodia time! If you do this, you will have an absolutely AMAZING time. I cannot thank Tru enough. I am definitely a Tru Traveller for life.

It was thoroughly enjoyed by myself and the rest of the group, we all shared an experience that we will remember forever. Ewan, Amanda, Aido and Hein were tour guides for part of the trip and were brilliant company, all very good at what they do and super easy to get along with. A big thank you to our main tour guide Dave who was with us throughout it all, a great guy with a huge heart and a genuine care for all of us on the tour. He's a credit to trutravels, my experience wouldn't have been half of what it was without Dave. I will remember this trip forever and would recommend it to anyone.

Some places had some dirty sheets, but that is about as bad as it got. Would have liked less large tuktuks and rather had vans for trips more than 20 mins because things got so hot and sticky all squished together in the back like that. Overall had a very good experience and would recommend it to a friend.

Got everyone involved and great for organising a few drinks and games to get to know the tour group better. He was also very knowledgeable on Thai culture which I thought was very good for someone not originally from there. He was very approachable as a tour guide and always willing to help with any issues! Couldn't rate him highly enough. He made the tour experience very enjoyable.

He got to know everyone in the group and is a really nice, friendly, chatty, approachable guy. He was really helpful with any questions I had for him and was really good at getting people in a party mood ! Couldn't have asked for a better tour guide and I would definitely do another tour with him again.
Best 12 days of my life. Thanks to our amazing tour guides I recommend the tour to everyone I know. Aido was a fantastic tour guide lots of local knowledge great fun and very professional

It was my first time travelling by myself and I was super excited but of course super nervous! The lead up to the trip was great, the guides had everyone chatting away and I was feeling a lot better about the upcoming adventure. I was on the 8 Day Thailand Experience and it was never made clear that this was also the Half Moon experience, although at the end of the day didn’t really matter, it was quite confusing trying to find the correct trip to be chatting and correct information etc. Arrival the information was very clear and meeting place was super easy! Accommodation was a lot better than I thought which was great! The food that was provided was great! Transport was all awesome! All in all the trip was amazing, it was a great way to see highlights on Thailand! Definitely would recommend this trip again. However there were a feel negative points…
Firstly as a solo traveller it was a little bit unsettling to find that 90% of the people on the trip were travelling with a friend, in a group or with a partner. There was one girl in my group that wasn't so luckily we got on great!
A couple of the bit of information were not made clear to us and this was due to a breakdown between what the western guide (Adio) was meant to be telling us and what he actually told us, example: Optional add on to do the Sky Tower and Lady Boy show – we were never told the price until we had all confirmed – price being $2400 Baht which for someone backpacking is not the cheapest rate. So when our Thai guide (Bee) told us the cost it was a bit of a shock, especially because the Lady Boy show was below average, would not recommend this to anyone. The dinner and views from the Baiyoke Sky Tower were amazing, would definitely recommend this part of the package.
Now to the guide – Adio. First impressions, great this guy seems like a lot of fun, really nice and completely and utterly loves his job! The first night out was a Thai Holiday so they were not serving alcohol – I am a true believer in respecting other cultures and especially when in their home countries. However Adio took some of the group off on a search to find out alcohol and get very drunk.
The second night the whole group went out, which was a lot of fun! It was a great chance to really get to know everyone. However there was no “team bonding” as such, it was my understanding that the Western Guide was there to ensure the whole group got along and bonded, there was no attempt to play drinking games, or make sure everyone was getting on. Instead Adio got completely written off and in the end called one of the 19 year old girls a sl*t for no reason at all. She of course took offence to this and when I brought it up with him and told him to apologise he deny it and said if he doesn’t remember it, it can’t have happened.
Throughout the whole of our tour/holiday Adio was also quite happily on his “holiday” there was no distinction between what his job was and what he considered his holiday. He was drunk every night of our tour, barely bothered to ensure we bonded. He use inappropriate language on two separate occasions to the same girl and still never apologise after being told twice to. He disrespected the culture of Thais on multiple occasions, including getting his dick out and pissing in the water at Koh Sok National Park when the toilet was about 5 steps away. Told us how he was “fucked in the head” from taking too many legal highs, told me my university degree (which has landed me the most amazing job as a corporate Event Manager) was a complete and utter waste of time, just because the education system didn’t work for him. Didn’t pick up 3 people from the airport because he was too hungover from the night before. There was absolutely no professionalism in his behaviour, he even told us that the Western Guides work illegally on holiday visas and get paid ‘under the table’, which is the reason that the Thai guides are on the tour.
Bee (our Thai guide) was a wealth of knowledge, she completely made this trip for me! She ensure we knew every little bit of information possible, and even started to send messages to Adio to tell him that he needed to do and needed to tell us this.. There were a couple of times where she would say “Do you know about breakfast?” Of course we didn’t, so she would need to tell us when Adio was meant to.
For me the worst part of the trip came the night we spent at Koh Sok National Park – this place is absolutely incredible, it is the meaning of true paradise. Staying in such a peaceful, untouched spot was amazing! While we had access to Kayaking, tubes for the water, swimming, alcohols etc there was lots of do for one night! As some of the group decided to go out adventuring on the Kayaks the others (lead by Adio) decided to stay behind and get completely shit-faced – which is fine, if that’s what they wanted to get out of this tour then that’s totally fine however unacceptable of Adio. Towards the end of the night there was a little bit of tension amongst the group which left a big divide in the group and three girls crying. Adio was unable to string a sentence together from being so drunk and offered no support to how to fix this divide. One of the girls even asked him “Well how can we fix it from here for the rest of tour?” His response “I don’t know”. Which then I felt obligated to step in and help fix, I asked Adio to go and get the second half of the group as I was going to bring them together to play a drinking game, Adio disappeared to the other half of the group and never returned. This again left me alone to fix this issue in the group. I am paying for a tour, I should not have to step in and mediate an issue between two people in the group just because the leader is too drunk to talk. Frankly it was unacceptable and also embarrassing.
This is completely reinforced when we went out in Koh Phangan with Bee and another tour leader and it was incredible to see the difference between what we had experienced with Adio and what it would have been like with better Western tour leader. Hands down the best night out of the whole trip and Adio was nowhere in sight. We did express our concerns and issues with one of the TruTravels representatives and she was completely shocked and taken back by what we experienced. She apologised profusely apologised for Adios behaviour and ensured us that he would never run a tour again. However I have just found out that he is off on another tour at the moment. Although I am not sure what words have been spoken to him and what arrangements have been made, it sucked that paying all that money to come on what could have been an amazing tour was tainted by one shitty Western Guide.
To do an overall rating of the trip it was great! I would recommend this trip and others with Trutravels, however for this review in specific I would strongly advise anyone from going on a trip that Adio was on.

The trip itself was amazing, packed with different activities every day and then the half moon party at the end. Aido was the life of the party, making sure we were all enjoying every minute and helping us if any problems came up! He also made sure that we knew we could keep in contact after the trip ended if we needed any advice or help with future travel plans. Overall an amazing experience with two brilliant tour guides and can't wait to book my next trip

Such a fun and well organised tour, really really chilled out, great people and incredible sights/activities. Our guides made it the most enjoyable experience, perfectly in control while still being your friend. Aido was in the process of training on our tour but seemed to have every characteristic & trait necessary to make a really amazing Tru travels guide!! We all felt it would be a great waste if he was not adopted into the team, our trip was certainly the better off for him being there. A really fascinating and genuine guy, he had an interest in everyone & everything and additionally could talk to and be comfortable with anyone.
Had a really good experience with aido from the start of my trip he made me feel super comfortable and made the tour very enjoyable.

I had the most amazing time with the guys and definitely planning on seeing them again in the future. Aido was training but was very friendly and engaging with all of the group. He was always pleasant to be around and made me feel so comfortable while in a foreign country. There were times we would talk about ideas to make improve the tour and other times we talked sports. Aido clearly showed a passion for the job and and genuine eagerness to be the best at his job. Aido is the man!!!!!
