Europe is 5 stars. Contiki as a travel service is 2 or 3, and I went with 2 because I feel misled. First, when the website says you're in cities for 2 days it's very deceptive, because they're includi…Europe is 5 stars. Contiki as a travel service is 2 or 3, and I went with 2 because I feel misled. First, when the website says you're in cities for 2 days it's very deceptive, because they're including a full travel day in that 2 days. So you won't get to the city until 6 or 7pm, when everything is closed, so that doesn't really count as a day. Second, I thought I was purchasing a tour where they go show you the major sites, because the website says things like "see the louve, notre dame," etc. But when the website says that what it means is just drive by the louve and notre dame, not go inside. And that's not really what I feel like people mean when they say they went to Paris to "see the louve." Expect to spend about another $1500 US above what the tour price is to see the sites. Also, when the website says there's wifi on the bus, it means you get about 15 minutes of free slow wifi and then have to pay.
Second, they just did not do a good job. I paid $4,000 US for the trip. Basically, Contiki's service is booking your bus rides (you spend on average 8 hours a day on the bus), booking hotels, and providing a tour manager. I did some math, and to stay at the hotels we stayed at (which were on average very bad) and take the bus to each city, it costs at most $1800 US. So then you're spending another $2,200 for the tour manager, and that's just not worth it. The TM basically just gives you some recommendations for each city and is there to answer any questions. Part of the reason I did a tour was so I wouldn't have to plan it all out, but once I got there I realized all Contiki does basically is take you to the cities, so I spent each day on the bus ride frantically trying to plan out what I wanted to see and get tickets to it. The TM wasn't even helpful sometimes, because he didn't know the best way to get tickets to certain things and/or what times they were open.
Third, we just never had enough time in the cities. As I mentioned, whenever it says 2 days, it usually means 1, and 1 day is just not enough time to see Paris. A lot of people say "it gave me a good feel for what I want to see when I go back" but it's like...you've already paid $6000 to see Europe. I don't want to see it later. I want to see it now on this $6,000 trip. The only cities we had enough time in were Lucerne, Rome, Nice, and Prague.
Fourth, I just constantly felt like they were trying to nickel and dime me and make me spend money (that is what the #noregrets logo seemed to be most used for). And oftentimes what we were paying for just wasn't very good. We paid like $50 for dinners sometimes that were well below average. And the activities they included were just weird. Like, in Florence we went to a leather working demonstration. Like, how do you include a leather working demonstration rather than a trip to the Duomo or in the Signoria? Also, when I booked the trip, they told me it was going to be $500 less, and to pay the full amount and I'd be refunded the $500. I paid, then they said they made a mistake and refused to give me the discounted price.
Really cannot stress enough how awful the hotels were for paying $4,000. This tour was worth $2,000.

Contiki tour managers and drivers always exceed my expectations and do everything they can to make the trip enjoyable and the best possible.

Not only was it great value (accommodation was included, most meals plus travelling to and from each place) but I felt safe because we traveled in a big group. I was able to see so many amazing sights from many different places such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Sagrada Família church in Barcelona, the Colosseum in Rome, the Berlin Wall in Berlin and so many more! I learnt a lot of the history and culture of each place we visited from our tour guide Trent who was very knowledgeable and our bus driver Andras was a brilliant driver, I never once worried when he was at the wheel. I am so grateful for all the memories I now have thanks to this tour, so many of the places I had once dreamed of going to I can now happily say I've been to. I highly recommend this tour

Tour is not to constricted to go with the whole group, there is a little bit of introduction to the city through a walking tour, organize site tours but enough time to explore and do your own thing. The hotels were very good, not in the city center, which I liked because it was a little quiet, but it still has restaurants, bars, mall/stores and the metro within a few feet from the hotel door. Our tour director Trent was awesome, very knowledgeable. Suggestions of places to explore, he base is on what kind of traveller you were ( foodie, culture buff, sports nut). If you want to experience a little bit how to travel on your own, this is a good tour to book.

Trent is a knowledgeable, professional, adventurous, organized and passionate Tour Manager. He made a connection with everyone on the trip, provided us with ample history of the cities and their culture, added stops in towns (i.e. Toledo & Tavira) that were not included on the itinerary for us to gain the full experience. Bus rides were fun and interactive with the wake-up song, song of the day, games, quizzes and more. During our free time, he directed us to the best eateries, bars, sites and also treated us to some of the authentic foods (his favorites), like pasteis, bacalhau, churros with hot chocolate, etc. This was my first Contiki experience and to have such a superb Tour Manager leading the group, made me feel like I was with family!!!

I went on the European Whirl Contiki Tour a few years ago with Trent as my guide and he was absolutely amazing.
We called him the walking encyclopaedia because it didn't matter what question we asked…I went on the European Whirl Contiki Tour a few years ago with Trent as my guide and he was absolutely amazing.
We called him the walking encyclopaedia because it didn't matter what question we asked him there was never a one sentence answer he would have tons and tons of information and facts and stories on all possible topics and there was never a question he could answer.
He taught us so much about every place we went and the culture and lifestyle. I personally was amazed at the amount of information he retains.
On another note, his enthusiasm and drive every single day in every single task was through the roof. He always had a smile on his face and was always eager to start another adventure.
The mood of our contiki right from the start was fantastic, relaxed and happy and this is largely thanks to Trents open friendly personality.
He looked after us and was always willing to help in any way he could with any problems we had, I personally actually left my passport at one of the contiki campsites and Trent went out of his way to help me get it back which was just amazing.
I think if ever there's someone who was born to do the job he does it's definitely him and he deserves to be recognised for how great he is.
Would highly recommend Trent to anyone thinking of doing any tours in Euope, you won't be disappointed!

His organization and attention to detail he placed for this trip was fantastic. The language and history and cultural background lessons were a huge plus! There was never a dull moment. The man kept 45 people together the entire time; no injuries, mishaps or "oopsies" occurred- all a credit to Trent. Trent has a gravitational spirit about him that draws people in; warmth, fun, education, and genuine love for what he does. We ultimately decided how our individual experiences would be, but Trent was the spearhead of the trip and taking our cues from him- I've never had a more memorable time.

They had the best personalities for the job . Made sure you didn't miss a moment, kept you engaged and entertained, made you feel safe and comfortable. There was not a thing on this trip that i could fault. All 50 people on the top were also fantastic and a joy to be around which also added to the great atmosphere of the top. Trent is very professional but also knows how to have fun with you guys. He has clearly been around dos a while as he was able to needs his opinion on local places and what you have to see and do. This trip is the highlight of my life So far. Going on a trip alone is Nov something I ever thought I would do but the people made it the experience of a lifetime.

I am going to try get on one of trents tours again making a special request to contiki when I choose my next tour, a contiki wouldn't be the same without JC (Trent) as tour guide

Some of the most memorable parts of the trip were actually activities he suggested to do. I was really impressed with the hotels. I didn't have high expectations for the hotels in Morocco but you guys picked out some good ones. Transportation was very good. This was my second Contiki tour and this bus was much better than the last one I had. The driver Goel was great, nice guy and very professional. The last tour guide I had from Contiki was very good and so I was expecting the same bar to be matched for my tour guide this trip. Trent surpassed what I was hoping for. Maybe it helped that we had similar personalities and got along that way but he's a pretty likeable person in general. I believe he might be the only person I have ever actually liked that sports a "man bun" hairstyle, so I think that says a lot. I suggest giving him a raise and giving me a free trip so we can meet up again... Because I know he misses me...

Our guide, Trent Plaine, was incredibly knowledgable of every city we went to, offering ideas of where to eat, the best places to see and must not miss activities. This gave us the opportunity to thoroughly plan out a fun filled day with plenty of time to try local cuisine and experience each city.
The coach was well maintained and clean thanks to our driver, Branislav, who spent hours every night ensuring every inch of the bus was clean and ready to go for its next journey.
Our accomodation was what you'd expect for the price we paid for the trip. However, there were some hostels that we stayed in that we're absolutely stunning. Our first and last night's accommodation were really comfy and felt like a little slice of luxury and accomodation was of a high standard overall. A wonderful experience and a great way to get a taste for travel.

Being a fairly introverted person, on all the other occasions I've travelled it has normally been solo, or with family. So I decided to take the plunge and embark on a Spanish Spree (winter) tour. In retrospect, I can honestly say I had the time of my life travelling through all the great regions of Spain, and sampling and taking in all the great cuisine and sights that Spain has to offer. And oh boy are there a lot!! I have so many great memories to look back on and so many new friends were made! My tour guide Trent was an awesome geezer and definitely made my contiki an experience I will never forget. He was always making sure everybody was happy and was always available to answer any queries you had or suggestions on what places to visit and which foods/drinks to try. Looking back, it is safe to say I would highly recommend the Spanish Spree and my tour guide Trent. Yip Yip!!

Instead of being a regular tour guide who shows you the sites, he became part of the tour group. He made sure that every single one of us felt comfortable and included throughout the trip. He organized extra activities and trips to places that none of us had even heard of.
He began every day with an ice breaker and linked songs to the trip that every one of us will hold close to our hearts for the rest of time.
I will be doing another Contiki trip in the near future and have decided to plan my trip dates around Trent's schedule as I don't believe I could possibly find a better tour manager.

He was always up for a good night out meanwhile still sticking to schedule. If anything did go wrong along the way he would go out of his way to help you to the best he could even though certain problems that had arisen he did not have to.
All in all Trent is one of the best contiki guides you could do a tour with. Hope use have as much fun as we did!!
