There were lots of adventures that can’t be explained with just a simple review, but I loved the knowledge that our tour guide had about the history and also the dos and donts of each area. My favorite memory was a crowded sit down eating alley around Shinjuku. It was fond moment with the group while experiencing an authentic Japanese cultural moment.

I recently returned from a guided tour of Japan, and I can honestly say it was one of the best travel experiences I've ever had. From start to finish, everything was thoughtfully planned, incredibly smooth, and absolutely unforgettable.
Our guide Daan was knowledgeable, friendly, and full of fascinating stories that brought each destination to life.
Whether we were exploring the buzzing streets of Tokyo, wandering through ancient temples in Kyoto, or soaking in the tranquility of traditional gardens, the tour struck the perfect balance between cultural immersion, sightseeing, and free time. -Madelon

We were only a small group but we really gelled together thanks to him organising activities and games. The tour was a great balance between scheduled tours and activities and free time to explore specific things we were each interested in. The hostels were very good, they were all comfortable, clean and central in the cities to make it easier to explore. This and the recommendations from Daan meant I was able to see everything I wanted to and more in just 9 days which I was great.
As a first time solo traveller it was great to be able to share the trip with so many amazing people. We made such good friends and I'm going to really miss everybody.
Also, would recommend the almond pie.

Our tour guide, Daan, went above and beyond to make the trip truly unforgettable.
The Essentials tour had the perfect balance of structured itinerary and free time, which allowed for well-needed downtime. There were numerous optional add-ons that could be booked to fill spare moments or explore the area more deeply. Every add-on was a memorable experience, but my favourites were the kimono hire and the sushi-making class.
Before arriving in Japan, I was a little worried about the accommodation size and whether there would be enough space for my luggage and to fully open my suitcase. However, every hotel on the tour was very spacious and incredibly comfortable.
Each city we visited had its own unique charm. I did not expect to love Hakone as much as I did. It was serene and peaceful, such a refreshing contrast to the busyness of Tokyo. The artistic and tranquil side of Hakone captured my interest immediately, and I would return in a heartbeat. The tour offered the perfect blend of bustling city life and calm rural beauty, allowing us to experience Japan in its entirety.
From historical sites and food tours to shopping districts and cultural activities, this tour truly had everything. There is something for absolutely everyone. (P.S. Bring an empty suitcase!)
Our group was small, just six people, but that intimacy made the experience even more special. We bonded quickly, shared endless laughs, created inside jokes, and formed friendships that I know will last a lifetime.
Most importantly, there needs to be huge recognition for Daan. He was organised, friendly, thoughtful, and genuinely the perfect tour guide. He made travel days effortless, read the group perfectly, and adjusted the pace and vibe so we could maximise our enjoyment. His detailed explanations, local knowledge, and extensive lists of recommendations were invaluable. He was always happy to help with anything, nothing was ever too much trouble.
Thank you so much, Daan, for making this the best trip of my life. You made my Japan adventure truly significant and unforgettable, and you deserve all the praise and recognition for your hard work.

Sufficient knowledge about the area, not all the dry book stuff and we got a chance to see the real Japan as a result. The organisation was unmatched, Daan got a significant sized group from point to point without fuss. Things went wrong like trains cancelled which is natural but plan B was put in place at no detriment to us. So if you want a grown up tour with an ability to do your own thing click on this one. If you want to follow a flag pole for 14 days well you will miss out.

Daan was incredibly well researched on all the locations we visited and would even have additional knowledge on other questions asked that were not included within the tour. He would also go out of his way to give us great recommendations of places to see and go to whilst we had some free time on our hands. He done an excellent job of getting the whole tour involved with the sights and activity’s. Always having an upbeat and positive attitude keeping the moral of the tour steady and strong, with much engagement through out. Would definitely recommend anyone to participate in a tour with Daan whatever country he may be guiding in and would definitely do another one myself.

I loved how much free time is in this tour, with options given for exploring other local spots. So it's very customizable. I would also recommend purchasing the add-ons, which are extremely fun. The reason it's a 9 and not a 10 is because we were speed-walking, often with luggage, to make this packed schedule. Either it could be built slower or I should've been built faster.
Guide: 10/10. Daan is a wonderful guide. He was punctual and prepared, and always handled setbacks with ease (which is why we booked a tour! So we wouldn't have to!) He has great knowledge about the stops as well as a variety of small fun facts. Mostly, Daan gets a 10/10 because it feels like you're just hanging out with another traveler, who happens to be well-organized and knowledgeable. What a cool guy

He was always approachable, with a warm and welcoming personality and he ensured that everyone felt happy and comfortable.
It was clear that onelifeadventures genuinely cared about making this journey special for each one of us.
The itinerary itself was packed with amazing activities, but two standouts for me were the Sushi Making Class and the Tea Ceremony.
Even though the days were fully packed and we were heading of very early most of the days, I liked everything we did and didn't want to miss out on anything.
Overall, this trip with OneLife Adventures was an unforgettable experience, with a perfect mix of adventure, culture, and relaxation. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to explore Japan!

The activities were truly fascinating (if I were to pick favourites it would be Kendo and Kimono wearing). The Tour was super organized as well! For just 14 days I think that I have seen everything that I wanted to experience in Japan (I even got to see some Sakuras even though they are at a late blooming phase this year)! Daan (our Tour guide) was excellent and very helpfull at all times and I think that without him I would not have had the same experience of the tour! His suggestions what to do on our free time also helped me on unsure days on what to do (like visiting Kyoto castle)

A special shoutout to our guide, Daan, who truly made this trip unforgettable. He was knowledgeable, fun, and always made sure we had the best time. Whether it was helping us navigate Japanese customs, organizing activities, or just making us laugh, Daan went above and beyond to make this experience perfect.
The itinerary was packed with must-see sights, from the neon lights of Akihabara and the peaceful shrines of Kyoto to the breathtaking snowy scenery in Nagano. The sushi-making class, Kendo lesson, and Snow Monkey Park visit were all highlights that made the trip extra special.
One thing that stood out throughout the journey was the amazing food. Every meal was a delight, from our first welcome dinner to the delicious street food in Osaka’s Dotonbori. Whether it was fresh sushi, comforting ramen, or traditional Japanese hot pots, every bite was incredible!
The group dynamic was fantastic as well—everyone was amazing, and it felt like traveling with a big group of friends. We made unforgettable memories together, and I can’t recommend this tour enough. If you’re considering exploring Japan, this tour is 100% worth it, especially with Daan as your guide!

Our guide, Daan, was absolutely fantastic! His energy, knowledge, and passion for Japan made everything so much more immersive. He always made sure we were having a great time, and his enthusiasm was contagious. Traveling with him and our amazing group made this adventure even more memorable.
One of my personal highlights was exploring the backroads of Yudanaka. Walking through the snow-covered streets of this charming little town felt like stepping into a postcard. The onsens were the perfect way to unwind—soaking in the warm waters while surrounded by the crisp winter air was pure magic.
Beyond the amazing places, what made this trip truly special was our fantastic group—it felt like traveling with old friends.
I highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to explore Japan in a fun, immersive, and well-organized way. And if you’re lucky enough to have Daan as your guide, you’re in for an even more incredible adventure!

All of these activities were things I was definitely interested in, but Daan was the big difference. His personality, genuine interests in the activities, knowledge of Japanese culture and history, and ability to manage a group was something you can’t teach. Japanese history is an extensive personal interest of mine, and I feel I can return home knowing I got more than my money’s worth in this regard.

Our guide Daan, was really knowledgeable, got us to where we needed to be on time and really made the trip run smoothly.
It's really hard to choose a favourite part of the trip as the tour really packed in a variety of experiences and activities, from sushi making, kimono wearing, visiting many of the beautiful temples and shrines, to taking a kendo class, riding the shinkansen and visiting Mount Fuji.
We got to sing karaoke with the locals in Kyoto which was really fun and we were able to visit and Onsen in Takyama to truly relax (and it snowed).
I've really enjoyed my time in Japan and was able to share the adventure with a great group of people too.

The people on tour were lovely and guide Daan could not be better. Went above and beyond sharing tid bits or navigating unforeseen events such as getting us to Mt. Fugi despite high winds!

Add in Monkey Mountain, boat ride, Tokyo arcades, Shibuya crossing, sushi making, tea ceremony and much, much more.
Our guide, Daan, was great and made what was a packed itinerary feel like it was leisurely and things ran as smoothly as the Shinkansen.

Daan was an amazing guide, he is so friendly, welcoming, kind and thoughtful! We felt very well-looked after and confident that he would always get us where we needed to go without any hiccups, and provided such insightful and interesting information!

We had cultural experiences, such as reflecting in a zen garden and attending a kendo class, that made the tour that much more special.
Daan, along with Dale and Jordan, were also really supporting and helpful at helping me along when I injured my ankle! Their calmness got me through a stressful couple of days:))

A wide array of awesome experiences that immersed us in many facets of Japan’s culture. From the bustling, vibrant intersections of Tokyo to the serene nature of Takayama and the outskirts of Kyoto, there was something for everyone. Even the views from the public transport were impressive.
I personally found the glimpses into Eastern religion and philosophy to be the highlight for me — staying at a temple and sitting in on a prayer/meditation session, then also a Kendo lesson — but that is picking a couple of thing out of so many unmissable opportunities. And we got so fortunate in our views of Mt Fuji; they were utterly breathtaking.
Overall the itinerary is clearly very well planned out and executed, with plenty of free-time scattered throughout to fit other plans in.
Which brings me to the tour guide(s).
We were blessed to have three plucky young guys directing us through our travels, but firstly, our main guide, Daan, was fantastic. He was personable, knowledgable, clearly passionate about his role and the country/culture, and someone I could easily see as a good friend. I could and would say those things of the other two guides, Dale and Jordan, as well, but Daan in particular brought a calm confidence to the table that was reassuring for an easily stressed individual like me. All three of them were more than just guides to us, they were a part of our group, each fit in in their own way and worked really well together. Anyone would be fortunate to have each of them as a guide.
Overall, this was an unforgettable and life-changing experience, and I hope I get to go on another one someday, wherever that may be.

Our guide, Daan, was exceptional. He is knowledgeable, calm, polite, and brings a genuine warmth and humour that made the experience feel relaxed and enjoyable from the very beginning. He went above and beyond to support everyone, including helping travellers organise additional activities outside the itinerary. When some of our group wanted to visit Nara, which wasn’t part of the tour, he provided clear, detailed instructions that made it easy and stress-free to do independently.
The other travellers were also a huge highlight. It was a welcoming, likeminded group with a great mix of ages, all genuinely interested in cultural experiences rather than purely partying. The sense of connection within the group really elevated the entire trip.
The itinerary itself was well paced, with a great balance of cultural immersion and downtime. Highlights included time in Kyoto and the unforgettable experience of seeing the snow monkeys in Nagano, both of which were standout moments of the trip.
I genuinely enjoyed every element of this trip and the flexibly Daan allowed if a traveller chose to skip or replace an activity. It truly was the people who made this trip though, fellow travellers and our guide, who made this trip incredible. The sense of connection within the group really elevated the entire trip.

I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to have gone travelling with - everyone brought something unique to the group dynamic and it made the whole tour incredibly special.
On the tour, I tried the best beef skewer I’ve ever had, visited places that literally took my breath away, got bowed to by a deer, and saw snow for the first time! I loved that this tour wasn’t just about surface level site seeing, but about the hexperiences too - traditional tea ceremonies, being able to wear a kimono, experiencing a meditation led by a Buddhist monk, learning to make sushi and teriyaki salmon, hearing about the samurai roots of kendo and trying it out for ourselves…
The stories and histories that our guide Daan shared about each of the places that we visited was like icing on the cake, and made the experiences all the more richer. Having a tour guide as passionate and well-organised as Daan helped bring the whole trip together - not only because we had someone we could trust to get us from point A to B, but through his free-time recommendations, we really had the chance to make the tour our own.
If you have any doubts about booking in the tour - don’t. Just do it.

It's impossible to be exhaustive when it comes to visiting Japan's main cities in two weeks, and that's not the aim, but the choice is relevant, diversified and each of the experiences we had was exceptional - I won't be able to rank them in order of importance. Free time is well-balanced in the schedule to satisfy individual preferences. Rest areas are clean, beds comfortable and breakfasts included for most. PS: don't forget to turn on the heating in the temple rooms, especially as it gets cold in winter - that's what authenticity is all about. This trip will probably be the best I've ever done. The pace is a little brisk because of all the traveling, but you just need to be in good shape for the two weeks. PS: remember to bring a deck of cards/society to interact with during the off evenings and transfers, even if the scenery will undoubtedly distract you a lot :) Final tips: save room in your bags for your purchases, don't overload yourself, there are washing machines everywhere, say yes to everything and enjoy yourself to the full, it will help you make the most of the experiences Japan has to offer.

Honestly, if you enjoy a mix of culture, food, and unique experiences, this tour is absolutely worth it. From meeting a monk and meditating at 7am, to having a one-on-one conversation with a kendo sensei, to experiencing a traditional matcha tea ceremony in kimonos made every moment felt special.
And of course, one of the best parts is the people you meet along the way. I left with amazing memories, beautiful new friendships, and a full heart.
