Reviews of Small Group tours to Albania
- Albania: Local Food & UNESCO Heritage
What a trip! First, compared to most similar small group tours I've taken (where 4-5* Western hotels & buffets are not the norm), I was pleasantly surprised by the hotels. They were all small boutique hotels (except one) and very centrally located. Two hotels weren't the usual ones due to construction right in the center (very thoughtful of them to move us) and a massive car/bike rally that exceptionally had most hotels in one town fully booked WAY in advance. That was the only night where accommodations were just ok, but on par with what I'm used to from tour hotels. Our driver/organizer, Rando, was a character! He has a ton of energy and, because there were only 5 people, we made extra stops. His love of his country and sheer joy in sharing as many places as possible with us made for long, busy days, but you'll really feel like you know the Southern region of the country at the end! He also ordered us so many amazing local dishes for lunch (many veggie-friendly) that our group barely ate dinner, despite a good level of activity! Our local tours were great, with the Alpeta winery being a highlight! Good Albania really went out of their way to accommodate transportation at the end (one pair arranged an extra day to Greece! Another to the ferry from Durrës, etc). There was generally great communication before also. Nothing to do with the company, which was great; however, if you're not keen on being out in high heat (90+F or 33+C), come before June or after August! It was above the normal averages this week, so the hillside hikes (in limited shade) would have been more enjoyable in lower temperatures. Rando did shuffle the schedule a little so the main city tours and 2nd hike were earlier or later in the day, which helped to avoid peak heat and sun.

The tour was wonderfully relaxing and perfectly organized, with excellent hotel choices throughout. Our guide, Spiro, was absolutely top-notch — professional, punctual, and always ensuring a safe drive. His restaurant recommendations were outstanding and really elevated the trip. A special thanks to Sirma, who made it so easy to coordinate something special for my wife’s birthday — the flowers were such a thoughtful touch. Absolutely worth every penny, and I’d highly recommend Choose Balkans!
What our customers ask about Albania Small Group Tours
What is the typical size of small group tours in Albania?
Small group tours in Albania keep numbers between 6-12 travelers creating a close-knit environment for exploring key sites from Theth National Park to the coastal areas of the Albanian Riviera. The limited size works well for stays in local guesthouses throughout Theth village and select boutique hotels in Berat's historic district. As one TourRadar traveler noted: "The small group size made our experience in the Albanian Alps much more personal and allowed for flexible scheduling when exploring places like Blue Eye spring and Valbona Valley."
What unique accommodations are available for small group tours in Albania?
Albania's small group tours stay in carefully selected properties such as the historic Hotel Osumi within Berat's UNESCO protected area and family-run mountain guesthouses in Theth. Visitors can expect nights in converted Ottoman mansions like Hotel Kalemi in Gjirokastra or seaside properties such as Hotel Brilant in Saranda. A TourRadar traveler noted: "Our small group could stay at authentic guesthouses in Valbona Valley giving us a real taste of Albanian mountain hospitality that larger groups miss out on."
What are the transportation advantages of small group tours in Albania?
Small group tours move around in modern minivans that can reach hidden spots larger vehicles can't access. These vehicles navigate the narrow roads to mountain communities like Theth and Valbona Valley with ease. Groups can make quick stops at coastal viewpoints and lesser-known attractions such as the Blue Eye spring. According to a TourRadar traveler: "Our minivan could navigate the winding mountain roads to Theth National Park easily while larger buses couldn't reach these spectacular locations."
How do small groups access historical sites differently in Albania?
The smaller size allows groups to move freely through UNESCO sites such as Berat Castle and Butrint Archaeological Park. Guides can share detailed stories and lead visitors to quieter corners of these ancient places. A TourRadar traveler observation: "Our small group could explore hidden corners of Berat's castle complex and get detailed historical explanations without rushing."
What is the price range for small group tours in Albania?
Daily rates for small group tours in Albania typically cost between 175-300 USD. Adventure-focused trips such as hiking in the Albanian Alps usually range from 200-250 USD per day while high-end cultural experiences can reach 300 USD. A TourRadar traveler shared: "The value was excellent considering the personalized attention quality accommodations and included activities like wine tasting in Berat."
Are small group tours available year-round in Albania?
The main season for small group tours runs from April through October with summer months being the busiest time. Mountain areas like Theth and Valbona become difficult to access in winter though city-based cultural tours to places like Berat and Gjirokaster continue throughout the year. Tour data shows July and August bring the highest numbers of small group travelers when weather conditions are most reliable for outdoor activities.
