It was a wonderful tour experience, where different people from USA, Canada, Trinidad, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines and Australia, come together and travel as one. Our tour guide not only shared all his travel tips with us, he also painstakingly explained all the train maps and city maps in all the states which we are in. This is to ensure that we know how to get around the city and go back to our hotel using public transport. This tour is unique because it not only brings us to the main tourist attractions but also enable us to try out local way of transportation, which is something extraordinary especially in a tour group! The optionals for the excursion on our free days were fantastic and were eye openers to all these places!

Contiki stands out for its seamless organization and tour managers who know how to bring a trip to life. TourRadar travelers often mention how much they appreciate the guides, not just for their knowledge, but for making the journey smooth, relaxed, and fun. Expat Explore gets strong reviews for creating a welcoming vibe. Their guides make everyone feel part of the group, which especially helps solo travelers and first-timers. G Adventures is a go-to for travelers looking for easygoing, well-run trips. Their "Chief Experience Officers" go above and beyond, whether it's pointing out a local café you'd never find on your own or helping with admin.
Where to start your Europe trip
London is the starting point for many European tours, with Rome and Amsterdam sharing second place. Vienna comes in third with Berlin following closely behind. Planning about 5 months in advance helps, especially if you have specific dates and cities in mind. Most first-timers travel on tours that include most of these European capitals. Our seasoned travelers suggest spending at least three days in each major city, so you have enough time for sightseeing and genuine local experiences, like food tours.

Best time to visit Europe
- Winter 2025 / 2026
For winter explorers, our European Discovery tours really shine between December and February. These journeys can start from London and take you through the festive atmosphere of Amsterdam's canals, Munich's traditional beer halls and Venice's misty waterways. Our customers particularly love seeing the snow-covered Alps and experiencing local winter traditions. The guides get creative during the cooler months, they'll introduce you to German glühwein in the Rhine Valley, take you to cozy Viennese coffee houses and help you find the best spots for traditional fondue in Switzerland. While some outdoor activities may be limited, you'll get more intimate experiences at museums, palaces and historic sites without the usual crowds.

- February 2026 popular 3,921 tours
- Spring 2026
Spring brings out the best in our European routes, with three distinct styles of travel gaining popularity among our customers. Multi-country coach tours let you see the spring flowers along Amsterdam's canals, catch the first warm days in Paris and watch the Alps emerge from winter. River cruises along the Danube connect Vienna's blooming palace gardens with Budapest's thermal baths and Serbia's riverside towns. For those seeking deeper cultural experiences, our Berlin to Venice small group tours wind through awakening Central European cities, mixing guided walks through Prague's Old Town with local brewery visits and gentle hikes in Germany's Saxon Switzerland National Park.

- Summer 2026
Our most sought-after European summer experiences are the multi-country tour packages, with routes connecting London to Amsterdam and Rome. The tours are structured so that these summer journeys balance guided morning visits with free afternoons, letting you shape your own path. Swiss Alps segments have become a summer favorite, where guests mix mountain trail hikes with visits to traditional villages.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Autumn brings out something special in our European tours, with travelers particularly drawn to routes linking Vienna through to Dubrovnik. Our customers appreciate how the weather lets them mix cultural visits with outdoor activities - think morning walks through Prague's old quarters followed by afternoon hikes in the High Tatra mountains. The Danube river cruises from Vienna to Budapest shine in fall, when you can start days with coffee in historic cafes and end with evening strolls along less crowded riverbanks. Rhine Valley wine tastings take on extra charm as vineyards turn golden, while Amsterdam's canals offer perfect spots for watching autumn colors reflect off the water. What makes these autumn journeys special is how naturally they blend indoor cultural experiences like Viennese coffee house visits and Dutch cheese-making demonstrations with outdoor activities in places where summer crowds have thinned out but winter hasn't yet arrived.

Will I actually need a visa for my European trip?
The short answer is: it depends entirely on your passport. Most of the popular countries are in the "Schengen Zone," which means you can travel between them without border checks. But not every country is part of that club, so you have to check the rules for each place on your list. For most tourists from countries like the US, Canada, or Australia, you can stay for up to 90 days for tourism without needing a visa. If you're thinking of staying longer or working, you'll definitely need to apply for the proper visa beforehand. And here’s a pro-tip that’ll save you a huge headache: check your passport’s expiration date. It needs to be valid for at least six months after the day you plan to fly home, or you could have a major problem at the airport.
How should I get from city to city in Europe?
Honestly, trains are usually your best bet, especially for hopping between major cities. High-speed trains, like the Eurostar that links the UK with France and Belgium, are awesome, they're super fast, and you actually get to see the countryside instead of just clouds. A big tip: book your tickets as far in advance as you can. The prices creep up the closer you get to your travel date. If you're on a tighter budget, buses like FlixBus are a solid option. They take longer, but they're reliable and can save you a good chunk of money. Renting a car gives you the most freedom to explore little towns along the way, but just a heads-up: trying to find parking in big city centers can be a real (and expensive) nightmare.
When should I book my tour in Europe?
It depends on your plans. Summer (June-August) is warm and lively, but also crowded and pricey. For pleasant weather and fewer tourists, consider visiting in spring or fall. Winter is fantastic if you want to experience Christmas markets or Alpine skiing, though many coastal towns basically shut down. Southern Europe stays warm year-round, so Greece or Portugal in October can still feel like summer. Northern countries like Norway or Sweden are great in summer with long daylight hours.
How much should I budget per day in Europe?
Costs vary a lot by country. In places like Norway, Switzerland, or Iceland, expect to spend around €150 to €200 per day for mid-range travel. That covers a decent hotel, meals at regular restaurants, and entry fees for attractions. Southern and Eastern Europe are more affordable. You can get by on €80 to €100 per day in places like Portugal, Greece, Poland, or Hungary. Big cities always cost more than smaller towns, and transportation between cities adds up as well, so factor in train or flight costs separately from your daily budget.
Do I need to buy travel insurance for my trip to Europe?
Yes, get it. Medical treatment in Europe can be expensive if something happens, and many countries now require proof of insurance just to enter. Make sure your basic coverage includes medical emergencies, trip cancellation, lost luggage, and/or emergency evacuation. Those policies typically cost around 4-8% of your total trip cost. Standard plans often exclude them. Some credit cards include travel insurance when you book with them, but check what's actually covered because it's usually pretty basic. Keep a digital copy of your insurance documents on your phone and email them to yourself.
