10 Day Borneo Itinerary, incl. Kota Kinabalu and Sepilok
A 10-day Borneo expedition covers 5 destinations from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan. Dawn wildlife cruises in Kinabatangan, orangutan encounters at Sepilok, and marine education at Dinawan Island highlight the trip. Includes 9 breakfasts, 4 lunches, and 4 dinners, with stays in resorts, cottages, and villa tents.

- Day 1
Kota Kinabalu
- Day 2
Mount Kinabalu Area
Visit the UNESCO-listed Kinabalu National Park and stop at a Dusun village along the way. One traveler shared: "Getting to try linopot (rice wrapped in leaves) with the local family was a highlight—such genuine hospitality." Spend the night at Sabah Tea Plantation in cozy cottages among the tea fields.

- Days 3-4
Kinabatangan River
Now the real wildlife watching begins. Take river cruises at dawn and dusk to see proboscis monkeys, macaques and hornbills. You might spot crocodiles too, though wild orangutans are less common. Bring binoculars and wear dark clothes to avoid scaring the animals. The lodges are simple but put you right in the heart of the action.

- Days 5-6
Sepilok
Visit the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre early (8:30 AM) to catch the morning feeding when the orangutans are most active. The Sun Bear Conservation Center next door is worth checking out too. Your rainforest resort has a pool to cool off from the heat. Sandakan town is just 30 minutes away for supplies.

- Days 7-8
Dinawan Island
- Days 9-10
Return to Kota Kinabalu
8 Days in Borneo, incl. Kota Kinabalu and Kinabatangan River

Kota Kinabalu & Rural Village Life
Begin your journey in Kota Kinabalu (KK), the coastal capital of Sabah. Your first day is perfect for adjusting to the climate and browsing the waterfront markets. On day 2, take a 2.5-hour drive to Tambatuon village for a local homestay. A traveler mentioned: "The cooking class at the homestay was a highlight - we gathered fresh ingredients from local farms and learned traditional recipes."

- Days 3-4
Kinabatangan River Wildlife
The 5-7 hour road trip to Kinabatangan is long but worth every minute. You will spend two nights at a riverside lodge, joining river safaris at dawn and dusk. The night walk was challenging but fascinating."

What people love about 10-day Borneo tours
- Borneo - East Sabah Adventure
G Adventures does a fabulous job of going to the jungle. Our guides were all so knowledgeable and engaged, and we saw some rare sights, such as pygmy elephants and orangutan mom and baby in the wild. Our 15 member group was pretty easy to travel with, not much drinking or whining either. This is the 4th or 5th G Tour we've been on, and we look forward to more.
- Classic Borneo
My first trip in a non developed country and I was not ready for the abject poverty. The tour was wonderful - all the issues I had were me and my total lack of preparation for the way animals are treated (dogs and cats). The filth and rubbish that is just a part of the country and the water ways including the ocean was more than I was able to process. The lack of effort to clean rooms to a high standard, and the garbage on the beaches was heartbreaking. If you are used to 3rd world destinations you will be fine. It was very cheap and cheerful. Amazing tour guide and group. Very cheap to eat and shop. Overall a wonderful experience. I would not have rated this a comfort tour compared to other intrepid tours I have done. It was a lot more walking and a lot more basic than I was expecting. Again that was about me and not the tour. I chose to not do several activities as they were too physically strenuous for this overweight older woman. And I thought I was prepared for the heat and the bugs - I WASN’T. Sooooo humid. I would suggest it is not suitable for anyone who doesn’t have a good level of fitness and it is a basic and not comfort tour.
