Amazing in one word. Great destinations, lovely monuments, perfect utilization of time and very good guides. The only thing bad was the food too spicy, don't be adventurous like us and tell the chef NO spices, not like us that be gentle. Gentle is also spicy for us Europeans. If you are in Mumbai for business and have a few days to spare this is the perfect tour to take as shows you the best of India in just a few days.

Best tour companies for Eastern India tours
Both Golden Triangle Tour and Holidays At get consistently good reviews from people who've traveled with them. What stands out most is how Golden Triangle Tour's guide Amit goes above and beyond - even on longer trips where maintaining that level of service gets challenging. Our travelers tell us Holidays At really excels at keeping everything running smoothly, with their guide Lama getting special mentions for making the cultural aspects come alive through detailed explanations and local insights. The drivers from both companies earn praise for being reliable and on time, which makes a real difference when you're trying to fit in multiple destinations. It's clear both operators have built solid reputations by focusing on what matters most to travelers - knowledgeable guides, smooth logistics and consistent quality service. I especially like how both companies seem to understand that it's the small details and personal touches that transform a standard tour into something memorable. The fact that customers remember their guides by name and take the time to highlight specific aspects of service speaks volumes about the care these operators put into their tours.

- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter in Eastern India is really excellent for wildlife tours, especially in the national parks. Our travelers get amazing results at Kaziranga National Park where you'll spot one-horned rhinos, elephants and tigers during morning and evening jeep safaris. The afternoons bring a different pace with local orchid conservation activities. The winter months also work perfectly for exploring Sikkim's Buddhist monasteries - the mountain views come out crystal clear. If you're interested in the classic routes through Darjeeling and Gangtok, December through February gives you the best chances to catch that Kanchenjunga sunrise from Tiger Hill, plus you can hop on the heritage toy train that winds through the hills.

Spring transforms the region with rhododendrons coating the hillsides in bright colors. Many of our clients pick the April-May tours that blend Darjeeling's colonial atmosphere with visits to Sikkim's monasteries. Over in Meghalaya, the living root bridges look particularly special when the forest around them starts growing fresh and green. It's also prime time for cultural experiences - you can join local Bengali families for textile workshops and take part in seasonal festivals. The hiking along Singalila Ridge is just right temperature-wise and gives you clear views of both Everest and Kanchenjunga peaks.

Summer tours focus on the highlands where the weather stays cool and pleasant. The cultural routes through Shillong let you explore colonial buildings, museums and the Don Bosco Centre - it's a great spot to learn about Northeast India's indigenous peoples. Nature photographers in our groups love capturing the big waterfalls in Cherrapunjee, while wildlife enthusiasts head to Balpakram National Park to find rare red pandas and black bears. The spiritual journeys to Bodhgaya and Varanasi become extra special during Buddhist festivals, when you can join morning prayers and evening ceremonies by the Ganges.

What's Special About Eastern India?
Eastern India's really unique - you've got this amazing mix of Buddhist sites like Bodhgaya and Nalanda colonial buildings throughout Kolkata and these incredible Hindu temple cities in Puri and Bhubaneswar. The landscapes are just stunning from the Himalayas all the way down to the Sundarbans Delta and you'll see this beautiful blend of old traditions modern city life and different cultural influences all coming together.
What Local Experiences Can You Join In?
You'll love Kolkata during Durga Puja in autumn - it's this incredible festival with big processions and cultural shows happening everywhere. Up in Sikkim you can experience Losar which is the Tibetan New Year with these fascinating masked dances and colorful ceremonies. If you're into tea there's nothing quite like visiting Darjeeling's tea gardens where you can actually join in picking and processing tea leaves. The 10 Days Sikkim Holiday tour takes you right into a tea estate where you'll see exactly how they grow and process the tea.
Where Can You Experience Nature Away From The Cities?
Kaziranga National Park is absolutely amazing for wildlife especially the one-horned rhinos - you can explore by jeep or elephant safari. The Sundarbans Delta's really special you'll cruise through mangrove forests looking for wildlife it's actually a UNESCO site. For something more active you can trek through these beautiful rhododendron forests up to Singalila Ridge the views of Kanchenjunga and Everest are just incredible. On the North East India 12 Days Tour you'll get to do both jeep and elephant safaris in Kaziranga where you'll see loads of rhinos and elephants it's actually got the world's largest population.
What Are Some Hidden Gems For Getting Around?
If you're looking to get off the tourist trail the tribal villages in Nagaland are fascinating you'll drive through some really beautiful countryside to reach them. Taking a cruise on the Brahmaputra River gives you this whole different perspective on Assam's culture and landscape. Meghalaya's great for a road trip you can check out these amazing living root bridges waterfalls and meet the Khasi and Jaintia tribes. The Highlights of Assam and Nagaland tour takes you to Longwa village right on the India-Burma border where you can stay with the Konyak tribe.
How Do You Get Around Eastern India?
Getting around's pretty straightforward - trains are really popular for longer journeys you can take overnight sleepers between the main cities like Kolkata Guwahati and New Jalpaiguri. Local buses work well for shorter trips and if you want more flexibility hiring a car with a driver is great especially in the mountains or remote areas. One traveler Roshan Yadav mentioned how well organized the drivers were always on time and really polite. The Darjeeling Sikkim & Singalila Ridge tour uses those overnight trains to connect places like Siliguri and Kolkata it works really well.
