Tamang Heritage Trail Trek Tours & Trips

At first I had some qualms about attempting the Tamang Heritage Trail due to my age (74) and as I'd had hip surgery earlier in 2025. Over the years I've done three treks in Nepal and enjoyed them immensely but the last time was more than 30 years ago. Would this be a step too far? TourRadar put me in touch with the tour operator, AlpWander Adventures in Kathmandu, and Ayush assured me it was still possible. Instead of joining a group tour he arranged a customised trek with just three people -- a guide, porter and myself. They were patient in accommodating my slower walking pace so I could enjoy the mountain scenery and hospitality of the Tamang people. We trekked for six days reaching an altitude of 3,200m near the Tibetan border. It was no cakewalk but the soaring peaks, prayer flags and Buddhist shrines we saw are indelibly etched in my memory. If you still have a sense of adventure and are prepared to challenge your boundaries, age is no barrier to doing this trek.

Having been an organizer of Buddhist Pilgrimages in India and Nepal for many years, I wanted to do a first Trek in Langtang (region with Buddhist history...). So I searched for an agency online and came across this one. After numerous and courteous discussions (high availability), the choice was made for this family agency on a human scale. The Trek was perfectly organized: welcome in the house, formalities, explanations, meetings with the guide, loan of equipment if necessary (sleeping bag, etc.), donation of t-shirt or polo shirt with the agency logo, ... Then debriefing after the Trek by offering a dinner and hand-delivered Trek certificate. The members of the agency are welcoming, smiling and open (Arun, Ashok....). They care about doing the right thing and are very attentive. The next Trek will still be by them. Because why change when things have gone very well? Do not hesitate to use their service. Our guide and porter were very good in everything.
