What people love about touring Hawaii solo
- Hawai'i Big Island: Environmental Conservation, Cultural Preservation, and Snorkeling
I am so grateful for my second trip with GIVE Volunteers on the Big Island Hawai’i ? ? ? ? The people of Hawai’i have endless stories to tell that most people will never hear (or listen to). I’ll never forget the moment after a beach cleanup with the Hawaiian Wildlife Fund, when a local told us, “You have two eyes two ears and one mouth…what that means is you should look and listen twice as much as you speak.” As he spoke, he looked over his ancestors’ land while the powerful waves of Kawa Bay crashed behind him. Our guides taught us just a few Hawaiian words, but the one that resonated with many of us throughout the trip was mana. Mana is the universal life force that moves through everything, and it is deeply powerful on this island. Mahalo nui loa to our wonderful trip guides, for their open hearts guiding us on this once-in-a-lifetime experience. And of course, I could never forget to mention the loving ohana of my fellow volunteers—these are the most wonderful, like-minded people all dedicated to our work each and every day. - Best of the Hawaiian Islands
My review is better than good but not quite excellent. Our tour director Pam was very good about disseminating information to our group, getting us where and when we needed to be, and sharing local knowledge about the areas we visited. She made everything flow smoothly. One of the hotels left a little to be desired, but for 3 days was bearable. The travel between islands was a little tedious, but all in all bearable. I am happy that we did this trip. The Hawaii'n Islands are unique and beautiful and we were given a taste of what life is like there. We'll just have to visit again. Thank you Pam, and Globus.
- Hawaiian Explorer (Intra Tour Air Hawaii 2 Flights) (from Honolulu to Maui)
This is a great tour for an overall overview of the three Hawaiian islands visited. Keeps you busy though so not for those looking for full days of pool or surf time. Great transportation, accommodations, and included meals.
What our customers ask about Hawaii Tours for Solo Travelers
Which areas of Hawaii State are most recommended for solo travelers on guided tours?
Three regions stand out for solo travel in Hawaii: Waikiki Beach on Oahu the Kona Coast on Big Island and Ka'anapali Beach in Maui. Waikiki draws social butterflies with its bustling beachfront scene and hotels like Prince Waikiki. The Kona area connects travelers through shared experiences at Volcanoes National Park and local coffee farms. In Maui the Ka'anapali Beach strip puts visitors steps from both organized activities and the historic Lahaina town. A previous guest noted: "Staying at the Sheraton Maui Resort was perfect for meeting other travelers - there were always people by the pool and joining the cultural activities."
What's the typical group size on Hawaii State guided tours?
Tours in Hawaii keep things personal with groups of 8 to 16 people. This size works well for visits to major sites like Pearl Harbor Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the Road to Hana. Smaller groups make it easier to bond during shared activities whether watching marine life at Maui Ocean Center or sailing along Kauai's Na Pali Coast. As one traveler put it: "Our group of 12 was the perfect size - small enough to get to know everyone but large enough to always have someone to hang out with."
How much free time is usually allocated on Hawaii State guided tours for solo exploration?
Tours balance structure with independence offering 2 to 3 free afternoons each week. On Maui these open periods let you wander Ka'anapali Beach or join optional trips like snorkeling at Molokini Crater. Kauai's free time slots work well for visiting Waimea Canyon or relaxing at Hanalei Bay. A past participant shared: "The tour had the perfect mix - guided morning activities with free afternoons to either join optional excursions with others from the group or explore on my own."
How easy is it to meet other travelers on Hawaii guided tours?
The shoulder season from September to November offers the best social atmosphere with manageable crowds and reliable weather. The Kona coast sees its driest days from April to October perfect for outdoor group activities. Waikiki's 270 annual days of sunshine create year-round opportunities to connect. Winter months bring more visitors and prime whale watching from Maui's Kaanapali Beach. One traveler noted: "Loved visiting in October - perfect weather and our group size wasn't too large making it easy to get to know everyone."
How safe is Hawaii for solo travelers?
Hawaii maintains strong safety standards particularly in tourist zones. Popular spots like Waikiki Pearl Harbor and Volcanoes National Park have regular security presence. Hotels including The Twin Fin Waikiki and Hyatt Regency Maui provide round-the-clock security measures. A recent review states: "As a solo female traveler I felt completely safe throughout the tour from morning volcano hikes to evening luaus."
What accommodations can I expect as a solo traveler on Hawaii tours?
Accommodations typically include established properties like the Twin Fin Waikiki Outrigger Kona Resort & Spa and Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa. Rooms range from city views to full ocean vistas. A recent review notes: "The accommodation was mostly great especially the Outrigger on the Big Island which had perfect rooms along with convenient pool and beach access." While private rooms come with single supplements many tours offer shared options to reduce costs.
