Reviews of 7 day Hiking & Trekking Tours
- Semi – Private Hiking Tour; Peaks of the Balkans Trail in 7 Days
The route is beautiful and well worth it if you like a challenge now and then and want to completely unwind. The tour is very well organized by the organization and guide. Throughout the different stops you stay in the most nice places with very friendly people!
- Cachicata Quarry Trail Trek to Machu Picchu 4 days 3 nights
Our guide Leo was fantastic and very friendly. The food on this tour was really great, they definitely don't let you go hungry. All the staff who looked after us worked very hard. The itinerary was good, but I feel both train journeys could have been earlier in the day in order for us to get back to the hotels at am earlier time to unwind.
- Semi-Private Tour; Theth, Valbona & Koman Lake in 4 Days
Our guide Vojsava was excellent. However Choose Balkans does not have the basic organisational skills for allocating accommodation. And from talking to European fellow hikers, it appears that Australians are charged more per day than others. You need to find a new local opetator.
What our customers ask about 7 Day Hiking & Trekking Tours & Trips
When is the best time to book a 7-day hiking tour?
Timing really depends on where you're headed. For the Inca Trail, plan your trip between April and October when it's dry and temperatures stay between 68-77°F (20-25°C). If you're looking at Nepal, the best hiking happens from March to May or October to November - you'll get clear skies and comfortable temperatures around 59-68°F (15-20°C). The Atlas Mountains are nicest in spring (March-May) or fall (September-November), with temperatures hovering around 68-77°F (20-25°C). Just remember to book at least 6 months ahead if you're planning to hike popular trails during peak season.
What's the typical daily distance on a 7-day hiking tour?
Most days you'll cover between 7-15 kilometers (4.3-9.3 miles), but this changes based on the terrain and how high up you're going. Take the Annapurna Circuit - on day one, you'll walk about 12km (7.5 miles) from Soqma to Korimarca village. Over on Mount Toubkal, some days are shorter with 4.5km (2.8 mile) summit climbs, while others involve longer 11km (6.8 mile) descents. Our travelers say the pace works well for most people, with plenty of stops to catch your breath and take in the views.
What weather conditions should I prepare for?
Weather can be really different depending on where you're hiking. On Iceland's Laugavegur trail, expect temperatures between 44-53°F (6.7-11.7°C) and pack for rain and wind. The Lake District in England can be pretty unpredictable with frequent rain showers. In Nepal, it can get quite hot and humid, reaching 95-113°F (35-45°C). One of our travelers put it well: "we had sun, torrential rain, hail, thunder, lightning and even snow but the scenery made up for it." Best to come prepared for anything.
How challenging are the daily hiking distances?
Most days you'll walk between 10-15 kilometers (6-9 miles), but the difficulty really depends on the terrain. In the Lake District, a typical day might be 14km with 700m of climbing, while tougher days like Scafell Pike involve 15km with 970m of elevation gain. The Mardi Himal trek in Nepal usually means 4-6 hours of hiking each day, adjusted for altitude. One nice thing is that many tours offer different route options - as one of our travelers mentioned, "guides provided options for both challenging and easier walks."
What level of cultural interaction can I expect?
You'll get plenty of chances to experience local culture along these trails. Walking the Annapurna Circuit, you'll pass through Gurung villages and visit Buddhist monasteries. In the Atlas Mountains, you'll spend nights in traditional Berber villages like Tizi Oussem. One of our travelers shared this about the Inca Trail: "Beyond amazing views, we learned about Quechua culture from our guide, visited ancient sites, and enjoyed meals with local families in places like Ollantaytambo."
What's included in meals during a 7-day trek?
You'll usually get three meals a day while hiking. The food often mixes local dishes with hiking-friendly options. In Nepal, you might have dal bhat (lentils and rice), while in Morocco, mountain chefs cook up tagines and couscous. One of our travelers mentioned: "The food was excellent - our chef prepared amazing 3-course meals even at high altitude camps on Mount Toubkal." If you need vegetarian, vegan, or other special meals, just let them know when you book.
What type of accommodation can I expect on a 7-day trek?
Your sleeping arrangements will mix it up between camping and lodges. On the Inca Trail, you'll spend 3 nights camping and 3 nights in hotels like Casa Andina in Cusco. The Everest View Trek combines stays in village teahouses around Namche Bazaar with hotel nights in Kathmandu at places like the Yak & Yeti. Our travelers tell us that while mountain accommodations are basic, they're comfortable enough after a long day of hiking.
