7 Days in Tunisia, incl. Tunis and Kairouan
A 610km route winds through six Tunisian cities, from Tunis to Sousse. The path leads to UNESCO sites like Bardo Museum and El Djem's Coliseum. Guests stay 6 nights in 5-star hotels, including Hotel El Mouradi Gammarth and Golden Yasmin Kasbah, with daily breakfast and dinner.

- Day 1
Tunis Arrival & Gammarth
Plan to land at Tunis-Carthage Airport in early afternoon to avoid rush hour traffic. Budget about an hour for car rental paperwork. It's a 30-minute drive to Gammarth, a coastal suburb perfect for settling in and getting your bearings. Spend the evening relaxing by the Mediterranean before your adventure begins.

- Day 2
Tunis & Carthage
Visit the UNESCO-listed Bardo Museum at 8:30 AM before the crowds arrive. You'll find North Africa's biggest collection of Roman mosaics here. Spend your afternoon exploring Carthage's ancient ruins (bring good walking shoes) and watch the sunset in Sidi Bou Said, known for its striking blue and white architecture. The Tunis medina's winding souks are worth getting lost in, but keep your phone's GPS ready - this 700-year-old market is truly a maze.

- Day 3
Tunis to Hammamet (90km)
Start with Oudna's Roman ruins, then follow the old aqueduct path to Zaghouan's Temple of Water, an impressive example of Roman engineering. You'll reach Hammamet by mid-afternoon. Leave your car outside the medina walls and walk through the old town. In the evening, check out Yasmine Hammamet's marina area, where restaurants and shops create a lively atmosphere.

- Day 4
Hammamet to Kairouan (120km)
Visit Tunisia's spiritual center, Kairouan. The Great Mosque features 414 Roman columns, each one unique. Remember to bring a headscarf if you're a woman visiting mosques. The Aghlabid Basins show off remarkable 9th-century Islamic engineering. Unlike the coastal areas, Kairouan's medina offers a more authentic shopping experience with local crafts.

- Day 5
Kairouan to Sousse via El Jem (140km)
Get to El Jem's amphitheater early. This massive structure once held 35,000 people, and morning visits offer better photos and cooler temperatures for climbing. Visit the Bourguiba Mausoleum in Monastir before ending your day in Sousse. Check out the Ribat fortress for excellent medina views at sunset.

- Day 6

A recent visitor notes: "Bring light layers - temperatures can swing dramatically between morning mosque visits and afternoon desert drives."

- Day 3
Tozeur to Douz (130km)
Cross the stunning Chott el Djerid salt lake with its pink and white mirages. One traveler advises: "The salt flats are dazzling - wear sunglasses and bring a scarf for occasional sand gusts." You can take optional morning desert excursions before the 2-hour drive to Douz, your gateway to the Sahara.

- Day 4
Douz to Sousse via Matmata (432km)
- Day 5
Sousse to Tunis (140km)
Visit Sidi Bou Said, a beautiful blue-and-white village 100m above the Mediterranean. Explore ancient Carthage's UNESCO ruins and amphitheater. Stop at the Bardo Museum to see world-class mosaics. One reviewer notes: "The Medina feels overwhelming at first - stick close to your guide who knows the best authentic craft shops."

- Day 6
Tunis Departure
7 Day Tunisia Itinerary, incl. Djerba and Sahara Desert
This week-long trip covers Djerba, Douz, and Matmata with four nights camping in the Sahara. You'll ride camels daily for 4-6 hours between Bir El Haj, Hdif El Boum, and the El Biben dunes with Bedouin guides, then soak at Ksar Ghilane's hot springs and see cave homes in Matmata village.

- Day 1
Djerba Arrival
After landing at Djerba International Airport your desert adventure begins. Use the afternoon to rest and prepare for your trek. Pack smart with lightweight moisture-wicking clothes for daytime and warm layers for night. The desert gets surprisingly cold from November to February with temperatures dropping below freezing.

- Day 2
Bir El Haj Gateway
Take a 4-hour 4x4 ride from Djerba to Bir El Haj early in the morning. You'll meet your camel team and learn basic desert camping skills. Take time to practice getting on and off your camel before heading out. It's not as simple as it looks. Spend your first night camping under the stars and enjoy a traditional Bedouin dinner cooked over the campfire.

- Days 3-4
Deep Desert Trek
Start your day before sunrise around 5:30 AM with Mella Loaf breakfast, a traditional bread baked in sand and ash. You'll trek 4-6 hours each day through different types of terrain with breaks for lunch in shaded spots. Most experienced trekkers suggest walking in the cooler morning hours and riding camels later. At night you'll camp in the open desert with Bedouin music and incredible star-filled skies.

- Day 5
Zmela's Great Dunes
Today you'll trek to Zmela's impressive dunes. Bring extra water as climbing dunes takes more effort than regular walking. Your evening camp gives you perfect sunset views. One traveler shared: "The Milky Way visibility here is incredible - I've never seen stars so clearly. Bring a good camera with night mode."

- Day 6
Ksar Ghilane & Matmata
Take a morning 4x4 transfer to Ksar Ghilane oasis. Relax in the 33°C natural hot spring but remember to bring water shoes since the bottom can be slippery. Visit Matmata's troglodyte homes in the afternoon. Keep some small bills handy for tipping local families who offer traditional bread and honey tastings. Spend the night in a comfortable hotel in either Matmata or Djerba.

What people love about 7-day Tunisia tours
- Tunisia Discovery, Small Group Tour
Wd loved our tour of Tunisia. We had excellent guide and driver. They helped make our tour a joy. I loved Karoun, the Torseur city, the sandy and salty deserts (Sahara edge), camal ride, and especially the visit to cave house in the Berber area and hiking in the village in the mountains next to the date palm plantation with the waterfalls.. The museums were also amazing, so many beautiful mosaics. The area of Carthage was also very interesting, including the cathedral that looks like a beautiful mosque. Best Wishes,.Carla and pearl Bossard
- Step Back into the Millennium, Small Group Tour
Tour went according to plan and generally overall good. A couple of not so goods, as I was the only tourist the choice of vehicle a Toyota LandCruiser is Ok for off roading but the suspension a little too hard for the very uneven roads around the country, the driver was very good however, no complaints there. The guides English not too good and difficult to understand. He did ask at the beginning if I could understand him and I though by the end of the tour my understanding of his English would be better but unfortunately maybe only just a little better.. Hotels good, meals mostly good.
- Highlights of Tunisia, Small Group Tour
Our 5 days tour was excellent. We love that it's a private tour with the driver, guide and the 2 of us. Hamza is an excellent driver, very smart and likable. Radhi our tour guide is an old school gentleman very knowledgeable. We enjoyed all the places we visited. The Roman amphitheater in El Jem is stunning. Tozeur is a very pretty city. The optional tour to Chekiba Oasis, Mos Espa Star Wars film site and the camel ride were fun though I find the price 190USD per person a bit steep. The hotels are decent though it should be one star lower really. All the meals were provided - buffet mainly. The best meal we had was lunch in Tunis the last day....grilled fish not buffet for once. Tunisia is a beautiful country full of potiental and soul. The people are friendly and helpful. We can really feel their hospitality and warmth wherever we go.... Hamza and Radhi took really good care of us. We feel very safe. Thank you for the wonderful memories ❤️
