Animals are most active early morning and late afternoon.

The journey to Spitzkoppe's dramatic rock formations takes 7-8 hours. Expect basic bush camping with long-drop toilets and no running water. Windhoek to Namib Desert
Begin your journey in Windhoek before traveling southwest through Namib-Naukluft Park to Sesriem. A recent visitor shared: "The vast and empty desert landscapes - miles of nothing and nobody - were truly breathtaking." Get some rest early since tomorrow starts before dawn. Remember to pack warm clothes. Desert nights can be surprisingly cold, dropping below freezing even in summer.

- Days 3-4
Sossusvlei & Swakopmund
Start your day at 5:30 AM to climb Dune 45 for sunrise before the crowds arrive. Visit Dead Vlei to see its ancient petrified trees. Drive to coastal Swakopmund through Walvis Bay where flamingos gather in the lagoon. Many travelers love the dolphin watching: "We saw everything from pelicans to seals to dolphins, and even a southern right whale and calf!"

- Days 5-6
Damaraland & Brandberg
Travel inland to Damaraland and look for desert-adapted elephants near the Ugab River. Check out the ancient rock art at Brandberg, the country's highest peak. One visitor notes: "The 90-minute valley walk to see the White Lady rock painting can be challenging in the heat - bring at least 2L water and wear sturdy shoes with good grip."

- Days 7-9
Etosha National Park
The best wildlife viewing of your trip. Stay near floodlit waterholes for amazing nighttime animal watching. One guest recalls: "Watching 30 elephants silently file down to drink under the stars was unforgettable." Go on game drives early morning and late afternoon when animals are most active. Rest at camp during the hot midday hours.

- Days 10-11
Waterberg Plateau
Visit the stunning Waterberg Plateau which rises 200m above the plains. Explore several walking trails including one to a scenic lookout point. You can also book optional 4x4 game drives. Good advice from a traveler: "The climb to the plateau viewpoint takes about 20 minutes and can be slippery - hiking poles are helpful."

- Days 12-13
Waterberg to Windhoek
Track rhinos at Otjiwa before heading back to Windhoek. Visit the craft markets but consider this tip: "The market in central Windhoek is more relaxed and better value than the tourist-focused ones outside the city." Finish with dinner at Joe's Beerhouse, a local favorite known for its unique atmosphere.

14 Day Namibia Itinerary, incl. Windhoek and Etosha National Park

- Days 1-2
Windhoek & Kalahari
A quick 45-minute transfer takes you from Hosea Kutako International Airport to Windhoek. The next day, drive 300km south to Mariental in the Kalahari Desert. Plan your game drive between 4-6pm when wildlife is most active. You might spot black impala and cheetah. The Kalahari gets hot, often over 95°F/35°C, so pack light, breathable clothes.

- Days 3-4
Sossusvlei & Dead Valley
The 5-6 hour drive west to Sossusvlei in the Namib Desert is worth every minute. Get to the park gates by sunrise (around 6am) to see the dunes at their best, when shadows create beautiful contrasts. - 12 Day Classic Namibia
Our guides, Gideon and Gregory, were incredible. They worked hard, yet were always cheerful. They had encyclopedic knowledge of the animals, plants, geology and people that we saw. They taught us new camping skills and brought us to every site when the light was just perfect. At every turn, they made our trip more enjoyable. The tour itself was incredible. How many times do you wake up to the sound of a lion roaring? Well, we did. Those of us who live in populated areas may forget a night sky. You will see it, and wonder, on this trip. The sky's pallets at sunrise and sunset will amaze anyone who can see colors. Sand dunes in morning light call out for one to climb, and amaze everyone who heeds the call. Animals, not confined in a zoo, live as they ought, and allow us a glimpse of their world. These viewings were not occasional, they are every day and multiple times per day. For many, this will be a once in a lifetime vacation. But it will be a highlight of a lifetime. I could not recommend more highly the 12 Day Classic Namibia Camping Safari with Chameleon Tours and Safaris. I hope you try it. Everyone should have a chance to experience the wonders this tour reveals.
- Namibia, Botswana and Falls - 14 days
I travelled as an accommodated solo female passenger. The organisation was brilliant, Crispy our tour guide was fantastic, funny, energetic, loaded with the most up to date information and most of all just a top bloke. Zeph was our driver, he was also funny, friendly and very safe, couldn't have asked for a better team. Booking with On the Go I assumed that we were on a tour run by On the Go however the company was Acacia Africa. I think this should have been mentioned earlier in the booking process not just when receiving travel documents 2 weeks prior to departing. No complaints about Acacia as they were fantastic and 100% would use again. My top spot on this trip was Elephant Sands, absolutely beautiful location and accommodation. The least favourite was Zeldas, this place is really tired, broken door locks, no water pressure in the taps or shower, my tour mates who were camping took photos of their bathroom showing mould and filth. Such a shame as the location is stunning. I loved everyday. My highlights were getting within a few meters of elephants on the Mokoros, the Chobe Game drive being so close to Lions and the sunsets and sunrises everyday. You cannot explain the beauty of something so simple as a sunset. If you're a solo female and wondering if its safe to do this tour alone, I say GO FOR IT.
