We have just come back from a three-day tour in the White Desert and Baharia Oasis which was simply magical… Our guide Abdo excelled at his job: not only was he knowledgeable of the sites and very competent at addressing any unexpected issues that may rise up during the trip (such as obtaining medicines for our comfort etc), he was also an incredibly nice, warm and bright person. I really enjoyed our conversations about cultural, economical and social aspects of Modern Egypt and learnt so much about his fascinating country. His command of both English and French was excellent, so if you have the luck to have him on your next trip, you will not be disappointed ;) Finally, I would like to mention that the White Desert and Baharia Oasis Tour is an excellent example of sustainable tourism, since it is run in cooperation with the local Bedouin community and helps their sustenance: from local lodgings, local restaurants to desert driving, you will feel like your financial contribution is actually going a long way and being shared with the local community to benefit these warm and generous people of the desert. I take home with me the memories of their smiles and polite respect of others which transcends any language… As for the desert itself, you have to experience it for yourself, as the vastness and beauty of it is difficult to describe in words… Egypt, you forever have my heart…
