Reviews of Small Group tours to Guatemala
- Guatemala Mayan Explorer
We really enjoyed this trip and we really loved Guatemala! Thank you Olivia for everything!
- Acatenango volcano on Share tour 3 days/2 nights
Loved the Acatenango volcano tour! Prior to the tour, there were some drive around in the city centre to pick up the group members. Then there was a short briefing about the route, time for rental equipment if needed. I hired a porter to take my bag and walking sticks. The hike up of approx 5 hours was smooth. Plentiful rest stops. Then a short break and another 2 hours walk to watch Fuego volcano. It was super spectacular as the volcano was very active and we took many photos and videos. Dinner was pasta con carne 😉 tasty and warm after the hike. Then a short nap for some brave ones who went for the sunrise climb (I skipped it). The sleeping tent had 9 pax but space enough for everyone. Each person has a sleeping bag. There was no time to have a change of clothes or shower but fatigue overcome me despite snoring folks to my left and right 😆😆 There’s a basic toilet at the camp. Morning call at 630am with banana bread and hot chocolate. Fuego is still spewing smoke opposite! Climb down was only 3 hours, very easy. There were some small shops/ vendors on the way up and down selling snacks and drinks, some souvenirs closer to the entrance. I highly recommend this tour, however some level of fitness and stamina is needed to carry the 4,5 litres of water in the bag pack and to conquer the upslope hike. 😉 A rewarding climb!
- Best of Guatemala: Antigua, Atitlán & Tikal 8 Day Tour (Private)
Overall, the tour was well organized. We asked for a shortened, custom itinerary, and we got one! Being on a private tour was a true bonus. The parts done by Guidequidor were very good. Their guide Abraham was on time, organized, and knowledgeable. The parts with the second operator (can’t remember their name) was on time, but pretty disorganized. They did not know our itinerary at all. I had to show them where we would go and when. The highlights were definitely just that. Very happy to have seen all that we did in such a short time. The accommodations were all very nice. Two different places in Antigua were both amazing. My biggest complaint was that a flight was involved. Due to a change in that flight’s time we left Antigua, around the halfway point of our trip, earlier than expected to overnight in Guatemala City. The Antigua hotel that we stayed in, San Rafael (beautiful), charged us for two nights. We should have been offered the opportunity to check-out and save ourselves the price of that accommodation. When the client is sent their itinerary, it doesn’t contain enough facts, and therefore it was impossible to know that we were booked for two nights… until we arrived at the hotel. I don’t think I needed to pay for the extra night to simply check-out 4 hours later. Knowing what I know now about Guatemala, I would say that this tour was on the pricey side. However, I did get a private tour, with excellent accommodations along the way, and saw some very cool places.
What our customers ask about Guatemala Small Group Tours
What is the ideal small group size for touring Guatemala's archaeological sites?
Small group tours in Guatemala typically have 8-12 participants. This size works well for exploring major archaeological sites like Tikal and Yaxha. Properties such as Villa Maya near Flores and Camino Real in Antigua are well-equipped to host these smaller groups. Small group tours range from 80-230 USD daily while larger tours cost 50-150 USD. This price difference reflects added benefits like dedicated guides and flexible itineraries.
