7 Days in Jordan, incl. Amman and Petra
Rich cultural heritage awaits at 4 key destinations: Amman's ancient ruins, 2 nights in Wadi Rum's desert camps, 2 full days exploring Petra's wonders, and Madaba's mosaic city. The tour features Dead Sea float and Mt Nebo visit, perfectly paced for ages 5+.

- Days 1-2
Amman & Transit to Wadi Rum
Start at the Amman Citadel in the morning to see city views and Roman ruins. Visit Rainbow Street for local falafel before 1 PM to avoid the lunch rush. "The falafel stands near Rainbow Street serve the best I've had, but get there early as locals pack the place during lunch hour." Take the 4-hour drive south to Wadi Rum and arrive for sunset. Your Bedouin camp will provide basic bedding, but bring a light sleeping bag and warm layers. Desert nights are surprisingly cold even in summer months.

- Days 2-3
Wadi Rum Desert Experience
Get up early at 5:30 AM to watch the sunrise over the red dunes. Join a 4WD jeep safari to explore Lawrence Spring and the natural rock bridges. "The morning jeep tour is much more comfortable temperature-wise than afternoon tours. Bring a scarf to protect from sand and sun." Spend another night at the desert camp. If the weather is good and the moon is new, sleep under the stars between 10 PM and 4 AM to see the Milky Way in full glory.

- Days 4-5
Petra
It's a 2-hour drive to Petra. Walk through the Siq to the Treasury first thing at 7 AM before the crowds arrive. The walk takes about 40 minutes each way. Make sure to wear shoes with good grip since the ancient stones can be slippery. Use your second day for hiking. Choose between the Monastery trail (800 steps, 2-3 hours round trip) or the High Place of Sacrifice (40 minutes up). "We wished we had a third day in Petra - two days feels rushed if you want to do both major hikes. The Monastery is a must but start by 8 AM before the heat."

- Day 6
Dead Sea & Madaba
- Day 7
Madaba

7 Day Jordan Itinerary, incl. Petra and Wadi Rum
The ancient wonders of Jordan unfold across 6 major cities: Amman, Jerash, Ajloun, Wadi Rum, Petra, and Dead Sea. Two full days at Petra's Treasury and Amphitheatre, overnight desert camping, and Dead Sea floating create lasting memories. Rated 4.4/5 from 20+ reviews.

- Day 1
Amman
After landing at Queen Alia International Airport, make your way to your Amman hotel. "Amman is a really interesting vibrant city if you make the effort to get an Uber downtown and eat out." Spend your evening exploring Rainbow Street with its local restaurants and coffee shops. Try to book an afternoon arrival to avoid morning traffic.

- Day 2
Amman - Jerash - Ajloun
Get to the Roman ruins of Jerash by 8:30 AM before it gets too hot. The site is large so wear good walking shoes and bring plenty of water. Visit the hilltop Ajloun Castle from the 12th century in the afternoon. "Jerash was incredible - the ruins are so well preserved, you can really imagine life in ancient times." The total driving time between sites is about 2.5 hours.

- Day 3
Wadi Rum Desert
Drive 4 hours south to Wadi Rum. Start your desert experience with a jeep safari through red sand dunes. "Don't spend the whole afternoon at camp - time your arrival for sunset when the desert colors are most dramatic." You can take a camel ride but keep in mind it's fairly basic rather than an extended trek.

- Days 4-5
Petra
Drive 2 hours to Petra. "Petra is absolutely massive - we spent 7.5 hours walking around and still didn't see everything." Get to the Treasury by 7 AM to avoid crowds and heat. You'll need sturdy shoes with good grip since ancient stone steps can be slippery. Use your second day to climb to the Monastery which takes 2-3 hours round trip. Consider booking Petra by Night for a special experience lit by candlelight.

- Day 6
Dead Sea via Shobak Castle
- Day 7

What people love about 7-day Jordan tours
- One Week in Jordan
Amazing tour. Tour guide was informative and knowledgeable. The itinerary was good although could be a bit rush if tour members are not fit enough to walk around. Wadi rum is otherworldly, probably could stay 3-4 days even.
- Best of Jordan
My wife and I previously used Encounters Travel for a vacation to Egypt and Greece and therefore jumped at the opportunity to use them for our journey to Jordan. The expectations bar was high given our previous trips being absolutely amazing and something we wanted to replicate in many areas. It delivered from the encyclopedic knowledge of our guide, Omar, who explained the historical significance of various sites encompassing the folklore of the civilizations responsible for such wonders such as the temples, amphitheaters around Amman, As-Salt, Jerash, and all the way to the remoteness of Wadi Rum plus who could forget the marvels of Petra with its Hellenistic design. The highlights were many with floating on the waters of the Dead Sea being magical. The accommodations were mentioned as being "3 Star" which was a standard room wasn't an issue as who is trying to stay in their room with everything there is to explore in Jordan. One improvement or thing to note is the preservation of water in Jordan might mean if you're taking a shower at a particular hour expect it to be freezing cold. During the trip, we were provided bottled water; however, the water was never cold. It would have been nice if the refrigerated unit used to hold the water on the coach bus worked and would keep the water cold. The expectations for the culinary choices were something my wife and I got particularly thrilled with offerings such as Makloubeh, yet nothing could beat the desert item called Kanafeh that was scrumptious and if you're into Baklava, there is no shortage of places to purchase. Encounters Travel gets both thumbs up for the trips and locations they put together and we will definitely use them for future travel adventures.
- Essential Jordan (4 Star Hotels)
The tour followed the itinerary. It was worth it.
