10 Day Switzerland & Austria Itinerary, incl. Bern and Innsbruck
The grand 10-day tour features extended stays in Bern and Innsbruck, encompassing 7 distinct cities. Watch alphorn-making in Habkern, visit Linderhof Palace in Bavaria, and wander Lucerne's 800-year-old Altstadt. Traditional fondue lunches and Tyrolean folklore shows round out the experience.

Bern, Switzerland
Start in UNESCO-listed Bern. A recent visitor shared: "The medieval Old Town is incredibly preserved - I'd recommend visiting the Clock Tower (Zytglogge) right before the hour to watch the mechanical figures come to life." Take the red Gurtenbahn funicular up Gurten Mountain for city views. The late afternoon offers better lighting for photos and smaller crowds.

Swiss Alpine Experiences
Stay in Bern while exploring the Alps. Visit Habkern village near Interlaken about an hour from Bern by train. Try alphorn playing but bring a light jacket since mountain mornings stay cool even in summer. One visitor noted: "Learning to yodel with locals was surprisingly fun, though harder than it looks! The traditional fondue lunch afterward was perfect after the morning activities."

Lucerne Day Trip
Catch an early train from Bern to Lucerne (1 hour). Visit Chapel Bridge first before the crowds arrive when morning light creates beautiful reflections on the lake. Walk the medieval city walls for great views but wear good shoes for the steep tower steps. Visit the Lion Monument in mid-afternoon after tour groups leave.

Bern to Innsbruck Transfer
The scenic 4-5 hour journey goes through Liechtenstein. Sit on the right side for the best mountain views. In Innsbruck pick between two walks: the historical route covering the Golden Roof and Hofburg (better in wet weather) or the architectural tour including the ski jump with more dramatic views but more outdoor walking.

Salzburg Day Trip
Take the 2-hour train ride to Salzburg early. Visit Mirabell Gardens before 10am when it's quietest. Book St. Peter's Restaurant ahead as one visitor advised: "The 1,200-year-old restaurant was a highlight, but reservations are essential, especially for the monastery courtyard seating."

Innsbruck & Bavarian Excursion
Explore Innsbruck's Old Town then visit Bavaria. Get to Linderhof Palace at 9am opening to avoid crowds. Try the less busy but interesting Ettal Abbey brewery tour. A traveler shared: "The monks still brew using centuries-old techniques - definitely try their dark beer, it's unique to the monastery."

Innsbruck Departure
Plan extra time if flying from Innsbruck Airport because of possible morning mountain fog. Airport buses run every 15 minutes and take 20 minutes from the city center.

Discover Salzburg's baroque Old Town. Park at the Mönchsberg garage for easy access to the main sites. Wear shoes with good grip since the cobblestone streets can be slippery. Visit Mozart's birthplace in the morning before the cruise ship tourists arrive.

Austrian Alps via Gerlos Alpine Road
Drive the stunning Gerlos Alpine Road to Telfs. Use Sport mode on your Porsche for better control on the hairpin turns. Visit Krimml Waterfalls first thing since afternoon sun and waterfall spray can affect visibility. Plan for about 4 hours of driving without stops.

Three-Country Alpine Circuit
Get ready for an exciting day across Austria, Italy, and Switzerland. Start with photos at Lake Reschen's submerged bell tower. Skip the Fuorn Pass before 10 AM when it's often foggy. You'll need 5-6 hours for driving, so start early.

Swiss Alps Exploration
Spend two days based in Lucerne. Get to Chapel Bridge at sunrise for peaceful photos. Take time to drive through the Entlebuch Biosphere and around Lake Thun. One traveler shared: "The roads around Interlaken were surprisingly quiet before 9 AM – perfect for enjoying the Porsche's capabilities."

Liechtenstein and Neuschwanstein
Drive from Lucerne through Vaduz (park by the postal museum to see the castle) to Neuschwanstein Castle. Book your castle tour at least 2 days ahead and pick afternoon slots for shorter lines. Look for great castle photo spots on the approach road.

Bavarian Alps Return
Take the scenic way back to Munich via Lake Plansee. Visit Linderhof Palace early since parking fills up after 11 AM. Look for small turnouts near Sylvenstein Lake for excellent views. The drive takes 3-4 hours plus stops.

Munich Departure
Return your Porsche and spend your final morning in Munich. Plan extra time at the airport security if you're flying out. They often have additional questions for luxury car renters about their driving tour.

Take an early start on the German autobahn to Kitzbuhel. You'll want to reach Grossglockner Pass before 2 PM since afternoon fog is common. The road has 48 hairpin turns so take your time and stop at viewpoints for photos when you need a break.

Dolomites Circuit
Drive the Sella Ronda route in the Italian Dolomites. Leave Cortina d'Ampezzo by 8 AM to avoid tour buses. The Misurina route shows off amazing mountain views. Keep an eye out for cyclists, especially if you're driving on weekend mornings.

St. Moritz Area
Stay in St. Moritz for two nights. Take on the famous Stelvio Pass with its 48 hairpins on day 4. Mid-morning is best when the road is warm but not too busy. Use day 5 to explore Julier Pass. It's just as beautiful as Stelvio but with fewer cars.

Swiss Alps Deep Dive
Book two nights at the luxury Chedi hotel in Andermatt. Drive Switzerland's "Big Three" passes: Susten, Grimsel and Furka. Susten Pass usually opens later in the season so check local updates. Grimsel Pass offers the best spots for photos.
- Day 8
Liechtenstein and Bavaria
Stop in Vaduz, Liechtenstein for lunch and views of the castle. The drive into Bavaria shows a whole new side of the Alps with wider, more relaxed mountain roads.
- Day 9
Neuschwanstein and Final Drive
See Neuschwanstein Castle first thing. Book your entry time at least two weeks early. Take photos from Mary's Bridge before your tour starts. Drive back to Munich on the Deutsche Alpenstrasse for a peaceful end to your journey.

Munich Departure
Plan extra time to reach Munich Airport. Morning traffic between 7-9 AM can add 30 minutes or more to your drive.
