The accommodations 6.5/10 - locations were excellent but some of the venues/hostels were a miss; uncomfortable in Kyoto with 4 people in 2 bunk beds (for 3 nights!), and other venues provided great views/space for some but not us, unfortunately - a bit unfair.
Our tour guide, Anna: 10/10, and one of the best things about our trip! Having someone who was helpful, communicative, proactive, accommodating, reliable knowledgeable, adaptive, and a good friend was a major plus to the trip/experience.

It was pretty good value for the very low price point (expect cost-effective accommodations and public transit). But the tour really came together because of our stellar tour guide, Anna. She was extremely knowledgeable about how to get around each of the cities we visited and always had lists of excellent recommendations for additional activities we could do in our free time. She expertly adjusted the tour schedule to accommodate diverse interests and keep everything on track and brought positive energy and an air of competence to every interaction. Every day was a new and interesting experience. Highly recommend.

Right from the start we were made to feel welcome and relaxed by the wonderful Anna.
Every day was filled with adventures from fascinating places to amazing food.
Maybe the only regret I have is only doing the 10 day and not the full 14.

Because we visited so many places there were some areas that I would have liked to spend a little more time in but that's the trade off when you're packing so much in to 2 weeks!

This trip was such an amazing way to experience Japan! The sushi-making class, dressing up in kimonos for the tea ceremony, and the Kendo lesson were absolute highlights that made the whole journey fe…This trip was such an amazing way to experience Japan! The sushi-making class, dressing up in kimonos for the tea ceremony, and the Kendo lesson were absolute highlights that made the whole journey feel truly special. Exploring iconic places like Fushimi-Inari, Arashiyama, and the traditional Gion district of Kyoto with its temples and geisha culture was wonderful, and the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum was incredibly moving. I also really enjoyed collecting Goshuin (temple stamps), but make sure to head to temple areas early since lines can get long. Overall, the variety of experiences made the trip feel rich and memorable, and sharing it all with the group was a huge part of the adventure.
There were, however, some areas that could be improved:
* The travel day to Hiroshima involved too many transfers. Maybe change up when we travel to Koyasan (before Osaka) or a suggestion to see on a free day/after the tour
* Hostel accommodations were quite basic for the price. The Tokyo hostel felt underwhelming and far from everything compared to a similar-cost hotel we stayed at in Shinjuku before the tour. In Kyoto, all 12 of us were placed in one capsule-style room that became uncomfortably hot, which didn’t leave much privacy.
* Guides asked for reviews before the trip was finished, which felt awkward.
* More advanced notice about arrival and departure times, along with clearer suggestions for free time activities, would have helped us plan extra visits to temples or neighborhoods in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka.

The experiences were incredible, the group vibe was wonderful, and Japan itself is just magical. With a few tweaks to the itinerary, accommodations, and communication, this could easily be a perfect trip!

The itinerary was jam packed and covered a lot of ground, allowing us to see a huge amount of Japan. The sushi class, tea ceremony and kendo class were some of the key highlights for me.
Some feedback is that we didn't have a lot scheduled in Osaka for the 2 nights, other than the food tour/castle. I think we would have preferred an extra night in Kyoto or Hiroshima instead, to help the flow of scheduled activities.
All in all, it was a fantastic trip and I would definitely recommend that someone else books it!

My only criticism of this tour is the itinerary - I knew it would be a full-on tour. However, I feel some days were poorly planned, and we could have had more time. I also expected that the tour guide would speak more Japanese. Nevertheless, if you're open to a fast-paced adventure with beautiful sights and immersing yourself in Japanese culture, this tour is for you.
The kendo, kimonos, and sushi-making really made the tour, with Kyoto being my favourite city.

I feel like the 14 day tour could have been changed a bit. The free morning in osaka needs to be pointed out at the start for people to book tickets to things or just skip it and allow more time in other places like Miyajima Island. The long travel day from koyasan to Hiroshima was taxing and needs to be broken up so its not a rush to make it to the walking tour which should be followed by the peace memorial museum. The osaka food tour needs some better quality food vendors for each stop.
Anna was a great guide, kept us on time, was approachable and helpful. I appreciated the historical information at each place. I would have appreciated more insight on japanese culture and language throughout the whole tour.

The tour was a great introduction to Japan and what different areas have on offer. I would have loved to have had more days in Kyoto and Hiroshima and could have skipped Osaka as they did feel a bit more like fill in days. It’s definitely a super full on trip with lots packed in to such a short amount of time. I enjoyed it.

This was my first time joining a group tour, and I couldn’t have chosen a better one. My Japan tour with One Life Adventures was everything I hoped for — action-packed, rich with cultural insights, and full of fascinating history. The itinerary was well-organised, balancing structured activities with plenty of free time to explore at our own pace.
We were incredibly lucky to have Anna as our tour guide. She was amazing — friendly, approachable, and always making sure everyone was having a great time. Her organisation and attention to detail made the trip run so smoothly, and her enthusiasm truly elevated the whole experience. She provided lots of local knowledge, gave thoughtful options for free-roaming, and ensured every person felt included.
I can’t recommend this tour — and Anna!! — highly enough. It was the perfect mix of adventure, learning, and fun. Japan was incredible, and One Life Adventures made it even more special

The 14 day tour is a great way to see the big hitters and get out to the mountains too, leaving feeling like you’ve seen Japan.
When you do come I would recommend packing light and bringing your comfy shoes!

My 10-day Japan trip was amazing! The kendo class was a real highlight and Takayama was so fun to explore. The group was super chill and we had a great time together. The tour is not for the faint hearted, early starts, lots of living about, multiple modes of transport to reach the mountain towns but this is exactly what I needed - to cover as much ground as possible in such a fabulous country. My only suggestion would be that we had an extra day in Kyoto. Takayama was lovely but I personally didn’t feel it was worth going all that way for one night. It was still a lovely place and I don’t regret going, the temple stay was lovely with the morning prayer and meditation (albeit we had to pay for the meditation but I suppose the monk was an ex businessman!). The activities were fun and I really loved all of them. You get a real flavour of the country and once you’ve been you can’t wait to go back. I could probably do the same tour again and know I would still love it. Again, Anna was wonderful and truly made the trip memorable. She deserves a very high raise to put up with us!!! Book this trip - you will not regret it!!

This tour is definitely jammed packed with activities and you are always on the move, but Anna was very organized and communicative with us to make it as smooth as possible. She always had great recommendations for food or activities to do on our free time in every city. I am so happy we decided to do this tour and grateful to have had Anna as our tour guide!

Anna was extremely organised and kept us informed of the itinerary, what we needed etc so that other expectations were managed accordingly. Even sending detailed messages when we needed to get off on public transport was greatly appreciated. Navigating busy stations and trains is no easy feat with nearly 16 people following around with their luggage. It really was seamless. The time that our train got cancelled due to an accident and we had to take several modes of transport was not an easy challenge to overcome but she sailed through it with her meticulous planning and organisational skills. She was a good sport and put up with the banter we all exchanged. I can imagine it was harder for her to manage us than the school children she taught. Personally I would have preferred not to go to takayama as it was a long way to travel for a night and I didn’t feel I got enough out of it would have preferred to arrive in kyoto a day earlier as there was lots to do and see there. Koyasan was an incredible experience thought and well worth the effort. Overall I had an unforgettable and absolutely remarkable adventure of a lifetime and I would put that down to Anna’s hard work, perseverance and dedication to giving us an incredible experience.

The 14 day program brings you to the most important places you need to see when traveling to Japan, thus a big amount of transportation comes along with it, but Anna managed everything perfectly to a point you didn’t need to do or think about anything other than following her and her instructions - such good was the organization. The mixture of scheduled stops at places and free time was optimal. Anna’s informative facts about Japan were the icing on the cake.
I’m entirely confident to speak on behalf of the whole team that we could have not wished for a better guide.
My wife and I will never forget this wonderful and highly recommended trip.

Luck may have been on our side but it was the guidance and professionalism of our tour guide Anna who is to thank for the seamless, jam packed adventure. The early mornings were difficult and I found some days physically challenging but definitely worth it and I feel like we have had the most authentic and fulfilling 10 days possible. I particularly appreciated Anna’s thorough recommendations and history expertise which gave a fuller picture of what we were visiting. She’s also so personable and her love of Japanese culture shone through! I wish her all the best in her next adventure and thank the One Life team for ours!!

The tour guide, Anna, was very informative, and knew the answers to all of my questions. She repeatedly went above and beyond to include people, even to celebrate birthdays on the tour despite some of the group choosing not getting very involved. Overall, I can't fault her!

Sometimes I wish we would have been more ruthless with leaving on time, but it is everyone's tour so I understand the reluctance of leaving people behind! I guess this would also be different from group to group. Overall, it didn't detract from the great experience though!!

Having a bit more knowledge would've been nice, she's open in communicating when she doesn't know something which shows strength in character. The knowledge will develop over time for sure!
I felt a bit let down by her lack of Japanese, most of the communicating with the locals and people of interest were in English, making me feel like I could've achieved the same without her guidance in some occasions.
On a professional level with actual questions Anna responded with great care and interest. But on a personal level I felt a bit ignored, as if she wasnt interested in what I way saying or telling her.
Overall I think Anna has great qualities in being a good tourguide and the expierence itself was quite good! Her little speeches with Information.. she made them seem effortless and did so with great enthusiasm!

Anna was amazing, best guide we could have had, she was fun, down to earth, knowledgeable, made everything enjoyable and helped where she could. She kindly accommodated and switched things around for me and my girlfriend, so we could spend more time together at hotels as originally we’d of been split, which was lovely and really appreciated. Especially after a cancelled flight and missing our first day of the tour completely. The trip wouldn’t have been as good as it was without Anna being our tour guide! Would recommend the tour with her any day!
The organisation of the tour is great and we got to do loads of unique and interesting things, which we wouldn’t have done if not being on the tour like sushi making, seeing places we wouldn’t have thought about going to like Takayama.
If I had to change anything about the trip would have liked maybe a better mt Fuji viewing, did get to see it on the bullet train, and know it’s a small chance to see it so dedicating more time to that might not be great if there’s only a 30% chance of seeing it. As well as Koyasan it was cool to see and go too but felt the travel time to then travel the same route back the next day to get to Hiroshima seemed a little long for me was the least interesting place on the trip. Would have liked another day in Osaka or Hiroshima instead personally. Which did make me think about could have done the 10 day and tagged along for the Hiroshima part.
Overall great tour, Anna was a super star and made the tour what it was! Got to see Japan in so many ways that wouldn’t have without her knowledge and leadership.

Maybe only the hostel in Tokyo (TenTen) was a bit less but that was not a big deal at all and location was great. I also absolutely loved the two temple stays, that was so special.
Anna was the best tourguide I could imagine, she showed so much knowledge, patience, empathy and confidence, which makes for the perfect tourguide. She has been so nice and really made me feel at home here. Also she made sure that everyone else in the group was comfortable and happy as well, which I thought was so kind. I will miss Japan and the amazing tour, but most of all I will miss Anna! <3

Although I had a fantastic time I could have used some more sleep some days and more than one overnight stay at some of the places because traveling made everybody exhausted.

The only thing, that I think could be different is the the first night. I think it would be great, if it all started with a classic "introduce yourself circle" where everybody tell their name, age etc. That would make it a bit easier to get to know everyone, so you don't have to ask everybody what their name is, and where they are from etc.

Despite these issues, Anna's enthusiasm and friendly nature did contribute positively to the experience.

The itinerary and organisation of the trip was beyond amazing and the trip quality was incredible, specifically thanks to Dale, Anna and Ellie who were guiding us throughout the trip. Any problems encountered during the trip were swiftly dealt with such as losing or forgetting important travel items such as cards and the places we went to were amazing.

There was also incorporated free time along the way which made a really good balance between touring and going places individually.
Our guide was on training and leading the group through the tour. My experience here was mixed. Really sweet, including everyone in the group, willing to help and spoke loud and clearly which was really good. So absolutely a lovely person ?However from a professional point of view I expected less confusions about the the itinerary, directions and information in general. In the future I definitely recommend using even more local guides/specialists at some sights as this worked very well and seems even more authentic and educational in regard to knowing the culture in depth.
Overall a good trip I recommend!
