She made sure to help the group get comfortable with each other right at the beginning and we all left the tour with new friends. You even get a curated playlist for the tour and it adds so much magic into the whole thing. As a solo female traveller who’s been on a few tours now, this was hands down an absolute top tier experience. Highly highly recommended!

I opted for the 3-day tour, and the experience exceeded all my expectations. The accommodations were cozy, with exceptional staff who organize unforgettable activities. The transportation was also very comfortable, punctual, and safe.
I want to give a special thanks to Branka, our tour guide, who was amazing. Not only for her charisma and the passion she puts into her work but also for providing quality, entertaining content and making you feel Scotland like a local.

Branka, the guide, was the best. She made everything we wanted come true, even the silliest request to ''find the end of the rainbow'', but Branka somehow managed it. Her stories about the history, legends and sights of Scotland were captivating. On the last day, due to high winds, we couldn't leave the Isle of Skye in the morning. Branka went out of her way to make the trip unforgettable and stopped to show us more of the Isle of Skye and somehow managed to find some Highland Coo (which we all really wanted to see). The hostel we stayed in was booked for this trip and was so comfortable, clean and warm. I would 100% do this trip again to spend more time with Branka, she really is magical!

Branka our tour guide was incredible - extremely passionate about highlands history and folklore, and incredibly funny and kindhearted - she really made the trip what it was. This is nothing like your standard retiree sightseeing bus tour, for starters, anyone 40+ isn’t allowed on the trip. It is incredibly fun to be traveling with group of young people (in my tour everything from 18 to mid 30s). I’m not even much of a social person but it quickly felt like taking a road trip with the group of friends rather than a tour. I am so glad to have taken the trip in the more off-ish season, as our group of eight was so much fun! If you are taking the trip in the “on-season” of spring or summer, definitely pick the longer trip as I hear with a larger group it takes a bit longer to get that close knit vibe going. Also, another thing (along with the amazing tour guides) that will always have me going back to MacBackpackers over anyone else is that you stay in a little house on the water in Skye that is completely separate from the main hostel - just you and your group. It was amazing to walk back from dinner at the pub and play boardgames and Headbands by the fire. I haven’t even talked about the scenery - it is absolutely gorgeous. I’ve been to beautiful places across the US and Europe, and it ranks with the best of any of those places. The hike we did up the Storr was just out of this world. We were so fortunate to have incredibly clear weather (not what Scotland is known for), that allowed us the most beautiful experience Skye. With the weather so unpredictable I would highly recommend you book the longest tour you can so you have better chance of having good weather some of the days. We got incredibly lucky for our three day tour. Even if you have good weather, book the longest tour you can! My one regret is not having booked a longer tour (though I think I booked the longest they were doing for the winter). The whole experience is so fun and amazing that I did not want it to end; and I will definitely be back multiple times on the longest tour I possibly can (5 day right now, but hopefully they bring back the 7 day tour!). The last thing I wanted to mention was the music, between stories of history and folklore Branka played the most incredible variety of Scottish music, giving the names and bands of each. I had never listened to Scottish music and now I have a whole new favorite genre - and a great playlist that Branka shared with us! I cannot recommend this tour more, if you are looking at it now JUST BOOK IT and I promise you will not regret it! Thank you Branka for such an amazing tour, and when my brothers visit the UK I will absolutely be back to do a five day (or hopefully seven day if it is back) tour with them! After talking about it for a long time, we decided to find a tour that would offer just that and for a normal amount of money. Macbackpackers were just what we were looking for and more.
First of all, Branka. The most amazing tour guide. Her energy, humour, vibe and storytelling was out of this world. The way she told us about the legends, myths, folklore and history was inspiring and it made everyone believe that Scotland truly is a place of magic. She made us laugh, she sang with us and overall we all felt pretty darn happy to be on the tour with her.
The pace was just right, we saw everything and more, at least as much as one would expect for a 5-day tour of a pretty big place like Scotland. The hostels were amazing. Loch Side Hostel was located right at the coast of Loch Ness which was super cool. Isle of Skye hostel was insanely adorable and so was the Oban hostel. The activities planned for the tour were inclusive so anyone can find themselves in each activity. Branka’s driving was so calming and even though we all stared out the windows to take the amazing scenery in, we couldn’t resist a nap on the bus.
Overall 100/10 experience and I would recommend this tour to everyone wanting to see the best of Scotland and experience the magic that it has to offer!

In fact, I've made so many friends on this trip that it has been so hard to say goodbye. People from all walks of life just congregating and having the craic/fun! This trip was exceptional. I'm planning on returning for another. To be driven all over Scotland. the Isle of Skye and everywhere and anywhere in between, was a delight. The hostels were great and the banter was top quality. I saw so many sights and I actually don't know where to begin. Mountains, valleys, learning Galic Scottish language, dancing at a ceili dance, eating local traditional food, listening to Scottish music, climbing up Old Man of Storr, flying my drone around, visiting castles....I'm so tired after it all but this trip with Macpackers and Branka at the helm as rejuvenated my passion for travel. JUST DO IT. SIGN UP WITH A BUDDY, GO ON THE 5 DAY TOUR AND SWIM IN LOCH NESS. Just do it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We got to see lots of highlights of the Highlands and Skye Island. We also got to know some legends and story from the area.
Branka adapted the tour to is and to what best suited us, and it was not a disappointment at all. She made the tour fun and interesting, she had lots of knowledge and she help us making easier and faster the hours in the bus with her stories.
The whole group got to eat together (included our awesome guide) and do things that made us bond through these days.
The final surprise/present was though for some... But really really funny and worth to see our travel-buddies faces.
I don't know how the other tour operators would have been... But I know that we were LUCKY to have Branka tag along with us as our guide.
I would totally recommend it!! And, who knoesy, maybe I'll join a 5 or 7 day tour one day.

In this tour we swim in the loch ness, we meet breathtaking landscapes, mysterious castles, magical legends populated by fairies and giants, Betty (even better than Nessie), hairy coos, bagpipe players in kilt, whiskey, majestic lochs, rainbows, a crazy playlist, beers, Ceilidh dancing, good mood and even more... Branka was so charmingly outgoing and committed to our good time that she made a bus full of strangers into a roving band of friends in under 30 hours: an impressive feat, even for a seasoned guide! She is well on her way to being one of the greatest guides in Scotland. This is my second tour with MacBack, (my first was 20 years ago!), and I will continue to treasure my time spent on the road with such an excellent tour and crew.

The duration of the tour allowed us to get off the bus often, having hikes in beautiful sceneries, photo stops and castles visits. I enjoyed the evening hours in delightful pubs, tasting local food and drinks, and experimenting Scottish dance with nice people.
An added value to the tour was definitely our guide, Branka. She's a colourful person, able to make us feel her love for her country, with plenty of stories and a very nice music playlist which I listen to also at home, to recall this beautiful journey.

Branka made our tour unforgettable and particularly was attentive to our requests for histories that included women's perspectives and stories (as we were a study abroad group with a focus on Women's,…Branka made our tour unforgettable and particularly was attentive to our requests for histories that included women's perspectives and stories (as we were a study abroad group with a focus on Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies). Branka is a gifted story teller and kept all 29 of us rapt with attention when she'd tell us the legends of the Five Sisters of Kintail or of the giant party at Ranach Mor. She knew that students were doing presentations on our sites after the tour and thoughtfully wrote up a list of all the places we visited and which of her stories connected to which place--the students loved having this resource and it really enabled them to produce wonderfully rich connections for their presentations. Branka is a very skilled driver and made the coach maneuver in ways I wouldn't have thought possible when she had to reverse up hill to accommodate for selfish or clueless tourist cars who didn't properly yield. Branka was a true delight to be around and had our whole group raucously singing to the Proclaimers, some pretty epic Pirate Metal, and the lovely lilting ballad of Loch Lomond. She checked in to make sure that everyone was having a wonderful time and seemed constantly delighted herself--especially when we hit the low tide perfectly to see the dinosaur footprints on Staffin beach! She was very flexible and accommodating to our group's needs and helped us have a really unforgettable experience! Many of the students are still raving about how great it was a week later and some of them want to return to the Highlands to become Hairy Coo Farmers ... or to follow on Branka's footsteps and become tour guides because they loved her story telling so much.
Before the tour I was able to work with Hamish at MacBackpackers to customize our itinerary to best suit our group's needs--swapping out a few stops to make room for the Glenfinnan Viaduct for our course's focus on Harry Potter and also Linlithgow palace and grounds (with our student interest in Mary Queen of Scots).
Our group stayed at the MacBackpackers hostels in Kyleakin which was an ideal spot to stay and enabled wonderful evening walks where we spotted seals and otters off the Skye bridge. The hostel breakfasts were helpful in keeping us nourished till lunch (the fresh scones and nutella were really tasty).
Thank you again to all the MacBackpackers Staff and I would highly recommend this company and DEFINITELY ask for Branka as she is one of a kind and will make your experience even more magical, informative, and fun!

Branka is a phenomenal tour guide with her energy and colloquial retelling of folktales and historical battles. She is a pro when it comes to maneuvering the tour bus around congested roads, winding roads hugging the mountainside, and pointing out sights as we wave them by! We moved beyond the typical (but no less beautiful) sights often associated with Scotland for a tour that you'll not find easily anywhere else. During our three-day tour, we settled into a hostel actually OWNED by Macbackpackers in Kyleakin in Skye. The hostel accommodated everyone in our group and it was a nice home base while we explored the highlands. Macbackpckers is an awesome group that works with their guests to explore the rich landscape for an experience you'll want to have more than once. When (not if) I return to Scotland, I know we'll book again with them for a trip that goes beyond the ordinary!

Branka was very enthusiastic and really had fun with her stories, which made them even more entertaining. We were given multiple opportunities to get off the bus and explore a bit while making the drive to the Isle of Skye. They gave us multiple opportunities to voice any preferences we had on the locations to visit, and often suggested less well-known sites that were just as beautiful, but less crowded. We went on a wonderful hike with Neil that allowed us to explore the Scottish highlands and take in the sites. I walked behind him and he frequently told interesting stories or personal experiences along the way. Some may view it as a little difficult, but this was no surprise. Both Neil and Branka frequently told us that if we weren’t used to hiking and didn’t want to, we could stay on the bus, and sit on the grass on the other side to take in the beautiful scenery. Additionally, along the way, they also gave us multiple opportunities to stop and go to the meeting place, or continue on for a longer hike. I went with two friends, and we have already been discussing going on a longer tour with them. I loved Neil and Branka and would absolutely encourage everyone to take a tour with MacBackPackers, as you can tell they are proud and excited to tell you all about their country!

Even when we got delayed due to a closed road we were having a great time and all the other tour busses looked *miserable*. So do yourself a favour and go on this tour - or better yet, the 5-day one like I should have! I'll be back 😊

And I was glad that I did! The fact that Branka was there to guide the group, telling us the folklore and history of the sights we were seeing just enriched the whole experience. We were blessed with great weather (your mileage may vary about this but someone in our tour must have a guardian angel looking out for them weather-wise) the majority of our trip and although I am not as fit as most people in the group I still had a lot of fun exploring the places we visited.

The itinerary sounded good on paper. However, in reality it turned out to be an accumulation of photo stops without really getting any real information about Scotland - neither at the stop, nor on the bus. The tour guide is a lovely young girl and there is nothing bad you can say about her as a person. Nevertheless, she provided the group with very little information. I don't really feel like I learned much. 80% of her talking was about her private life or about funny stories of previous tours: Example 1: She would talk about her family, how she got her name, what her Tinder experience has been like, etc. You can talk about all these things at the pub in the evening or even on the bus in between, but not all the freaking time. The few times she provided us with solid facts, many of us didn't even realize that her 30 minutes' ramble about her private life had finished so we missed the information. Example 2: At the big bridge in Edinburgh (whose name I forgot, or was never told?), Branka would talk about how two engineers of a previous tour would almost [expletive removed in moderation] due to the amazing architecture. While that may sound funny, I would have rather (or at least additionally) heard some facts about the bridge.
At many stops, it would have been much more helpful to have the tour guide join us and explain to us what we were looking at, instead of just dropping us off. The folk museum is the best example: We just wandered around without any guidance. So it didn't really feel like learning much. Or at Loch Ness, Branka only told us three theories of which two were stupid and e.g. involved aliens. I feel like I knew more stuff about Loch Ness than her, just from reading recent newspaper articles about the lake.
Further, we drove through so many interesting-looking villages but didn't learn about any of them either. Someone once asked for the name of one lake we had passed, and Branka didn't know the answer. Of course, this is absolutely fine as she cannot be expected to know everything, but she said she would look it up later, which - of course - she didn't do. It seemed like after a while, people wouldn't even ask any questions anymore because they wouldn't get an answer anyhow. This is not about knowing everything but it's about being prepared for possible questions and about getting back to the participants and their questions.
LACK OF ORGANIZATION
Branka would tell us in the morning what we could "expect" from the day. However, this summary would just involve the names of the places we would see. Instead of properly giving us a rough draft of the day in the sense of "2-hours hike in the morning, followed by a 1-hour drive to XY where you will find a bathroom, followed by several photo stops, etc.", we would just hear, "Today we will see WX, XY, and YZ." It didn't really allow us to be prepared for the day.
When we were supposed to hike at the Isle of Skye, the weather was really bad. Many of us got soaking wet already in the morning, although prepared clothes-wise. Of course, they continued to put the air-conditioning on inside the bus. Have I mentioned that I got home with sinusitis and a UTI? Although the information prior to the tour had stated that there might be changes to the itinerary due to the weather, the plans weren't changed. Branka simply repeated several times, "I cannot take you home yet, it's too early", instead of having a Plan B. So we would just take more photo stops for which we would just hop off the bus quickly and return to the bus.
Some stops were way too short. For example, we stopped at a big battlefield ground, which included a proper museum, and were given 45 minutes to look at it. Branka informed us that the entrance of the museum was10 pounds in case we were interested in going inside. Well, it would actually have been wonderful to see a museum but of course no one is paying 10 pounds if you've only got 45 minutes to rush through.
It would have been really nice to have some time in Edinburgh as well. However, we arrived after 5 pm on Friday, which obviously wouldn't leave us with any time to do any sightseeing there. That was really a pity!
PEE STOPS
Already on the first day, Branka told us that there wold be few pee stops, which in general is absolutely fine. However, instead of asking for our understanding, she made nasty remarks about previous tour participants, which made you feel very uncomfortable knowing you would also be someone who would need a bathroom often. So at the next stop, I approached her and said in a very (!) kind way, "Hey, I might be one of these guys who have to go to the bathroom quite often. Do you think you could maybe let me know beforehand when there will be pee stops? Because then I'll be able to control my water intake accordingly." Instead of appreciating my "cooperation", I earned a sarcastic answer: "Sure, I'll write you a list for each day with the exact times of each pee stops. I'll put it down for you tonight and give it to you."
Not only did everyone feel like we weren't allowed to express our need to use the bathroom, but also did we receive wrong information. For example, Branka said the next pee stop would be in 1.5 hours and people would drink a little bit to stay hydrated. One and a half hours later, we would arrive at a forrest and Branka would say, "Have fun, see you back at the bus in an hour." I then asked her where the bathroom was and she say, "Oh we just passed it with the bus 10 minutes ago, but we will drive back there later in about an hour or so."
ACCOMMODATION
Before the tour started, I already stayed in a hostel in Edinburgh for one night. I paid 22 pounds for a quad room with bathroom en suite. The hostels pre-booked by TourRadar were about the same price, but 8-bed-rooms with shared and absolutely yucky facilities for dozens of people. The only proper hostel was the last one in Oban. All others were honestly disgusting, and there were not enough facilities for so many people. There was mold and rust in the showers.
The information you provide prior to the tour start is also very misleading. I may not be a native speaker of the English language but even my Australian friends read the tour information as if the participants were able to choose the rooms by themselves. The information says that different room types are pre-booked and the prices range from XY to YZ, which insinuates the participants can decide which one they want to go to. If we had known the room allocation was going to be decided by you, we would have booked our very own accommodation prior to the tour start.
CONCLUSION
If I had known it was going to be like this, I hadn't booked the tour. Although the tour is cheap, it is still too much for what's included: Hardly any information about the country, very poor accommodation, no plan B on a bad weather day, too little time at interesting spots, etc. From my point of view, my friends and I could have saved these 260€ per person and used the money for a rental car and gas. We would have booked our own accommodation for a similar price but with better quality, we could have amended our itinerary in accordance to the weather, and we would have actually learned something about Scotland by ourselves, by speaking to locals, by reading a travel guide, etc.
I was extremely hesitant to write this, which is why it took me so long to finally do it anyhow. It is probably my very last intention to hurt anyone's feelings or to come across as a picky person, because I truly am not. However, I work in customer advisory service as well as in complaint management myself. Constructive criticism can truly be used for a company's advantage if the client is taken seriously. Hence, I hope my review will allow you to improve your tours as well.
P.S.: I know there will be very positive feedbacks about the tour too, and I would like to explain why: Branka's personality can be very intriguing in the way that she "makes friends" with a certain type of people and she becomes their "fun buddy." What they are after is a fun time on the bus, which they did get due to the personal stories of the tour guide. It was quite entertaining. However, if your intentions for the tour were to learn something about Scotland and to have a passably comfortable time, expectations were not met at all.
P.P.S.: I don't want to hurt Branka's feeling with any of this, and honestly feel very bad to write this. She seems excited about the job, and maybe she just needs more experience. Therefore, I highly recommend she learns a little more historical/cultural/geographical/etc. facts about Scotland and talks more about these things than just about her personal life. Further, I recommend she is more structured and clear in her way of communicating and providing information. It felt quite erratic at times.

Do it! The Highlands are absolutely amazing and we couldn't have had a better guide to show us around and tell us stories. Well worth the money.

Branka is a fantastic tour guide who knows the area well, expect some great stories and awesome music as you travel around the highlands.
The tour is fast paced so you get to see lots of different places, with a few hikes and lots of photo stops. It's also planned well enough that subject to timing there are some great surprises! It isn't too much of a rush however, with a good amount of time scheduled for each place you go to.
If you enjoy hiking, gorgeous scenery, history and folklore and want to experience it with a great group of people, I'd definitely book this tour.

The driver also knows a lot of stories, scottish history and life and shares everything with you. I learned a lot about the culture, dance and galic language. They also ask you what you want to do or to see and try to stop there and to satisfy your expections.
After all: don´t forget that it is a trip by bus with a lot of stops. Sometimes you´ll feel tired of driving and sitting
But you see a beautiful landscape and a lot of places.

I never expected it to become an educational one. Our tour guide Branka was more than excellent, she talked nonstop and you will not tired of hearing it. She explained the historical places in a none traditional approached adding so much humor that made it more interesting. The funniest one was when she made us believe that Unicorn was a real thing. Hahahahahhahaha. Her energy was awesome. She drove and talked and still have the energy left to hang out with us at night.
Scotland Highlands is incredible. Probably the best place I ever been. I would definitely booked this tour again, next time the 7-day tour.

I was in awe throughout our trip because of how beautiful the Highlands were. Branka answered all our questions with great knowledge! We swam in the Loch Ness despite the freezing weather. We hiked up The Old Man of Storr despite misty cold conditions and Branka took us a lesser known way, going a bit off trail, which was super. The 3 day tour is a great one to do, if you're pinched for time and don't drive so can't hire a car and DIY it. Thanks for a great introduction to Scotland's magical Highlands. My only critique would be the price of the hostel accomodation which was on the more expensive side. Some warning of the hostel pricing before the tour would have been appreciated. Thanks !
