I also got some brilliant tips for future hikes and walks, which I really appreciate. All in all, a witty and easy-going guy with great humour, thanks a lot for the trip!

The trip with Macbackpackers was the highlight of my summer and I believe Stuart played a huge role in making it that way.

Everything was perfect. Lots of history and jokes keeping us entertained throughout. The hikes were amazing! Timing calculated was on point. Highly recommend.

He is a mix of a performer with strong personality (in a good way!), and a human Google map together with passion plus expertise in hiking. Stewart's sweetness and detail-mindedness never disappoints throughout the whole trip. Glad to be guided by Stewart!

We asked many questions on tangential subjects and he always had an informed and detailed answer. He is a true Scot, which made the experience authentic as we toured famous historical locations through the highlands and Skye. I was particularly grateful that he had the forethought to put me in my own room as the only woman on my tour– it made me feel very looked after and went beyond the basic duties of a tour guide. I would 100% recommend Stewart as a tour guide, and recommend the tour itself as a way to experience the highlands and Skye in a short period of time.

Stewart, our guide was an absolute gem who took care of us and was also really accommodated our needs. Please know though, that this is a hiking outdoorsy tour, you have to come prepared to hike and deal with Scottish weather, plans don't change if it starts to rain!
Accommodation is basic for hostels but works well if you're on a budget. Breakfast is quite basic with just cereal, bread and fruit when eating in the hostels.
Highly recommend this tour!

The group size was perfect. Small enough that you were really able to get to know people on the tour. The locations that we visited were amazing, and by going through the tour, it took all the hassle away from the individual traveller.
A definite highlight for me was staying at the Gearrannan Blackhouse Village and visiting the Bosta Iron Age House - things I wouldn’t have known about without MacBackpackers.
Stewart was incredible - he had a massive wealth of knowledge (for both the history and folklore) and a great sense of humour. It was really lovely to be able to get to chat to him and he was very easy to approach.
I will definitely be recommending MacBackpackers tours and cannot wait to come back again!

Bring proper shoes as this tour really gets you off the bus and into the open air.

Stewart is a great storyteller and definitely knows his stuff. Bonus points for his lively impressions, the very amusing road rage and the smashing playlist on the tour bus! Great value for money and a lovely way to see the country as a solo traveller on a budget. I can't wait to be back, I'll probably go for the 7 day "Best of the West" tour next time :)

What I enjoyed the most were definitely the hikes and the fact that you have time to complete them on your own; there’s no pressure nor rush at all as in other bus trips. I’m forever in love with the Highlands, the views are stunning and this tour does make sure you get to experience this part of Scotland as much as possible. Our group was relatively small (15 people) so we had good times and laughs together for the whole trip. Stewart was such a fantastic guide; he knows loads about Scottish history and his playlists absolutely put you in the mood! I’m definitely considering doing a longer tour as I now have a hunger for more Scottish adventures. I got this tour for myself as a present for my 24 birthday and it has with no doubt meet my expectations. Highly recommended!

Besides Stewarts wild story telling, the best part about this tour was "getting amongst it" - getting off the bus and out into the Scottish landscape to explore. We went to some truly beautiful places that I would not have known to go to on my own, and I am so glad I went on this tour instead of going it alone. Everything about the tour exceeded my expectation - the accommodation was clean and comfortable, the bus was warm and pleasant and our guide could not have been better. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who has a sense of adventure and wants to have the time of their lives!

Scotland’s breathtaking nature and history mixed with Stewart’s wild, beguiling tales and expert knowledge of scottish history, made for a trip like none other. Stewart was attentitive and humerous, making the trip just that much better. We are definitely coming back and will hope to have Stewart again as our guide!

So I signed up, and didn’t regret a single moment.
First, I want to especially thank Stewart. He was a phenomenal guide. You can tell when someone is passionate about their job and it makes it that much better. Stewart is full blown Scottish, from the accent, to the kilt, to his love of whisky and road rage and idiot tourist drivers aha. He’s the real deal and was nonstop full of facts about Scotland. Wildlife, nature, places to check out, lore and battles and history he knew SO MUCH. I will say his accent takes a bit getting used to but I really wouldn’t have had it any other way. I really can’t say enough good things he did fantastic.
Second, for the location itself, it was amazing. I had multiple people recommend it and it was one of the highlights of my entire trip. The place was gorgeous and we were extremely lucky with the weather. We witnessed one of the best most complete rainbows I’ve ever seen in my life, the hikes were all interesting. We unfortunately didn’t get to see the fairy glen but Stewart knew of another area that was just as awesome. Lots to do and see. I’m not even a huge fan of hiking and I loved this trip.
If you’re on the edge at all about this I really recommend it and have told many of my friends about it.

His humor was an added bonus. However what put him over the top we’re his actions today. Today, a member of our group inexplicably had a to go to the bathroom mere minutes after leaving a bathroom stop. It didn’t seem like a big deal until we got to the Glencoe stop, when we and Stewart all realized she was in a great deal of pain. Knowing that it would be 40 minutes until the next stop ahead, but only 10-15 backtracking to the previous bathroom spot, he made the difficult but correct decision to backtrack. By doing this, it is clear that he is of high character and possesses a tremendous amount of empathy, even towards someone who had no one to blame but themselves. Sorry for the long winded response, but I didn’t want his actions to go unrecognized. Thanks for everything, we would recommend Stewart to anyone!!

All trip was perfect planed. We had time for shopping and lasure. Stuart took us to the places that were not touristic and very special( amazing views).
Hostel was very pleasant, clean and warm. In the evening we had time for meeting other backpackers.
I can truly recommend this trip and our guide. We are looking forward to book another trip. So if you are looking for full experience of Scottish highlands, for sure this bearded, kilted Scott can provide!

It's particularly great for people who love getting out and experiencing things, as you spend a lot of time out of the bus actually getting to hike / visit some sights. Then you close it off with some cozy drinking by the fireplace (because our tour guide is amazing and built one for us, city girl me was very pleased) or the local pub at the Isle of Skye The guide and bus driver was a master at arranging the playlist (great song selections), telling Scottish legends and history (... with some embellishments, don't take what is said about Mary Queen of Scots or Elizabeth I literally, haha—I was a little taken aback by this, but once we got to the legends and fairy tales I was in it), and driving with a firm hand. If there's room for improvement, it's that the itinerary is quite flexible, but we would be asked to make decisions on where to go without knowing much. Our guide could've better explained our options, or honestly just decide since they have the knowledge, I honestly felt we maybe missed out on some gems or did not make the best decisions.

The tour is a great way to explore a bit of Scotland if you only have a limited amount of time. I really liked the variety of things we could do, like visiting castles/cathedrals etc, whisky tasting and hiking. I especially enjoyed the hiking bits!!!

Since it's impossible to cram everything completely in, Stewart helped us prioritize the essentials. He is very passionate/knowledgeable about Scottish history and eagerly answered all our questions. I also enjoyed listening to the eclectic Scottish music during our ride. The accommodations were two of the best all around hostels in the world and the views were unparralleld. We wanted to see as much as we possibly could view in the Highlands during our sadly short stay in Scotland, and this tour undoubtedly managed it. Thanks so much, Stewart and MacBackpackers!

Prior to participating on this tour I had just come from a tour through Ireland with a different company and had a fabulous time. I was let down when coming on this tour as I found that it was hours a…Prior to participating on this tour I had just come from a tour through Ireland with a different company and had a fabulous time. I was let down when coming on this tour as I found that it was hours and hours of driving and when we did stop it was only for 30-1 hour max. My guide also altered the plans without our knowledge so we didn't stop in half the placed the itinerary said we would. Also, my guide talked inappropriately about his political views, making several people on my bus who were English feel very uncomfortable. As well, my guide was in a car accident, within the first day of the trip which quite frankly in unacceptable, especially since afterwards he did not apologize to the customers on the bus, but rather continued to act unprofessionally.
The choice of hostel is quite decent. The first and second days are good, but the third day is boring (long driving and winery visit).

The landscapes were absolutely breathtaking, from dramatic cliffs to snowy mountain tops, every stop felt like something out of a postcard. Very grateful to our guide, Stewart. He made the long bus ride incredibly entertaining, full of fascinating stories and local knowledge, and made sure everyone felt comfortable and included throughout the trip.
It was the perfect mix of adventure and history. If you’re thinking about exploring Skye, this is 100% the way to do it.

The highlight for me? Definitely the hike to the Old Man of Storr. The views were absolutely breathtaking, and it’s something I’ll never forget.
We stopped at so many stunning places along the way, from Loch Ness to Glencoe, and even the charming little town of Kyleakin. Everything was really well organized, and you could tell they know how to make the most of the time.
I’m already looking forward to doing the 5-day Skye tour next time to explore even more of this incredible island. Highly recommend it!

The amount of time off the bus was great and the stories and historical background provided on the bus were super interesting, with a touch of humor to finish it up. After these three days I definitely want to come back to take more time in Scotland, but it was such a great introduction to the country and a local guide definitely contributed to this. I would recommend the tour to anyone but if you have the time definitely try to go for one of the longer tours since there is so much to see. Also don’t forget your swimsuit, even if the weather wouldn’t allow for it. Don’t pass up on swimming in Loch Ness even if it’s pissing down and stormy out.
