What people love about 3-week Mekong river cruises
- Treasures of Cambodia and Vietnam by Mekong 21-Day
I completed a 21 day Siem Reap to Hanoi group tour in February 2024, though due to dates booked I was the only traveler most of the trip. So much of the trip warrants five stars, but there were some challenges in the first week, so I can't in all honesty provide that. I want to say that I have been in touch with Legend to discuss making a few additions or changes to the written information to be more clear for North American travelers - particularly on an English language platform like TourRadar. I noticed there is already one change to better reflect the reality. I am confident they will take into consideration the recommendations to be clear in their tour outline. For clarification, this tour is not a leader led tour with the same group members from start to finish. This was not completely clear when I booked in June. At that time, there was only one tour guide mentioned, and I mistakenly assumed that would be similar to a leader from start to finish. It seems there are other types of group tours created by in-country agents that have guides in cities or regions, but you travel between cities by plane, bus or boat (with tickets and guidance provided), as a group. As groups are fluid and not the same people from start to finish, this may mean you are traveling alone. If you are a confident or experienced traveler, this could be a wonderful blend of independent and guided travel. If you prefer being constantly in a group, or an inexperienced traveler, this may not quite suit expectations. I have learned this tour framework is not unique to Legend Travel Group and occurs in areas beyond Asia. There was also no clarity on how the boat trip between Phnom Pen and Vietnam would play out, particularly with border crossings and visas. In the end it was pretty easy and the boat company manages the border crossings and paperwork, but I had to go to YouTube to research 'tourist boat from Phnom Penh to Vietnam' to fully understand the process. I have provided a few lines to consider adding to an itinerary to make it more clear. It's actually a relaxing trip with lots of visuals, and arriving into the canals at sunset for the final few miles to reach Chau Doc was magical and worth every minute of the transit time. This tour is considered active, so be completely honest with yourself as to how much walking and stairs you can do in the heat. Some sites are on hillsides or include steep or uneven steps without hand railings. It is not uncommon in Vietnam to have to climb 100 steps (over the course of the site) or more. Older travelers, be aware. You can generally opt out of things, but at other sites, opting out could make it difficult to meet up with the group later. The itinerary was wonderful and ticked so many of my 'want to see' boxes. As a solo traveler, having Legend Travel Group organize this meant the sites I wanted to see were guaranteed. This isn't always the case when booking independently, as sometimes a minimum of 2 or more is required. Being able to let Legend manage the bookings and provide the transport and guides made 6 weeks of tours and travel much easier to do. They provide excellent drivers in well maintained vehicles - and there is always water available. The guides know and are passionate about their cities and regions. Their English is good to very good. Drivers and guides were always on time and always waiting at the airports, bus or boat stations with my name on a sign before I arrived. The basic plan hotels are a mix of 3 and 4* hotels. Most are well located and all had optional eating areas very nearby and usually onsite. A few of the hotels in the Delta seemed to be still suffering from the pandemic low tourist numbers, but all had functioning elevators, clean linens and hot water. As a solo female traveler, I never felt any of the areas were unsafe, however, some are down alleys, which may not suit everyone. I appreciated the ones that included pools. Breakfasts are included and while most were very large with many choices, a few were more limited and some of the food quality wasn't up to par. If you want a bit more comfort or reliability in quality, consider upgrading. Not a reflection of the company, but I want to mention that travel during Lunar New Year may impact museum visits as often all, or a selection, will be closed for 3 - 5 days. This was the case for me in Hoi An, but there were other things to see, and ultimately what we missed was often seen in other museums or sites. If you are an experienced traveler and confident to be independent in some aspects of a tour, I have no hesitation in recommending Legend's excellent itineraries and organization. Over the course of the trip, as an introvert, I actually really enjoyed the time I was able to have alone, and the different groups of fellow travelers I met along the way rather than the same group every day. I will forever have fond memories of my 3 weeks in Cambodia and Vietnam and be thankful to Legend for providing the support to make it memorable - often going above and beyond. Many thanks.
- Coastal Charm and Mekong Delta Adventure Tour 18-Day
Our trip to Vietnam was perfect, thanks to Legend Travel Group. Everything was well arranged, and on the first day when we arrived, we received all the information we needed. Additionally, we could always contact our guide from Legend Travel Group in times of trouble or with any questions. A reliable organization indeed.
- From Hanoi to Phnom Penh: 17-Day Mekong Delta Discovery
Legend Travel put together a great itenerary. Mr. Danny made sure we were taken care of at all times. He arranged late check-out when our flight was late in the night. He was available by phone at a moment's notice and swiftly responded. We were very pleased!
