- Days 1-2
Sidi Bou Said & Tunis
Start your trip in Sidi Bou Said, the beautiful blue-and-white village just 20 minutes from Tunis airport. Visit early morning to explore the cobblestone streets before the crowds arrive. On your second day see the ruins of Carthage before 10 AM to avoid the heat. Visit the Tunis medina in the afternoon when the markets are busy. Remember to wear closed shoes in the medina since the stone paths can be slippery.
- Day 3
Dougga & Kairouan
Take a 3-hour drive to see Dougga, which has North Africa's best-preserved Roman ruins. Next stop is Kairouan, the holy city of Tunisia. You can visit the Great Mosque until sunset but remember to bring a scarf for covering shoulders. The carpet workshops are popular with visitors but expect some enthusiastic selling.

Tozeur Oasis & Mountain Adventures
Travel 4 hours to Tozeur to begin your desert experience. Take a 4x4 tour the next day to see the mountain oases of Chebika and Tameghza. You can also visit the Mos Espa Star Wars film set in the desert. Bring a light jacket because desert temperatures drop a lot at night.

Sahara Desert Experience
Travel to Douz for your desert adventure. It takes about 3 hours by 4x4 to reach the desert camp. Try to arrive before sunset for great photos of the golden dunes. You can book camel rides but plan ahead if visiting between October and April.
- Days 7-8
El Jem & Coastal Tunisia
The El Jem amphitheater is almost as big as the Roman Colosseum. Continue to Sousse where you'll find a more authentic medina experience than in Tunis. "The evening light on El Jem's ancient stones creates an unforgettable golden glow," according to one visitor. Visit El Jem in late afternoon after the tour groups leave.

Mediterranean Coast & Departure
Spend time in Hammamet and Nabeul to see their ceramic workshops. Stay in Gammarth for your last night since it's closer to the airport. Plan for 2 hours at the airport because security checks can take time.

Tunis Arrival
Arrive at Tunis-Carthage Airport and head to your hotel in the capital. Book a room in the Ville Nouvelle district for easy access to both the medina and modern areas. If you arrive early, take a walk down Avenue Habib Bourguiba, often called Tunisia's Champs-Élysées.
- Days 2-3
Tunis & Carthage
Start in Tunis's medina and visit the 8th-century Zitouna Mosque before the crowds get there. Head to the Bardo Museum after 2 PM when it's quieter to see North Africa's best Roman mosaics. At Carthage, start your visit at Byrsa Hill to get the best view of the ancient city. Save Sidi Bou Said for late afternoon when the sun makes the blue-and-white village look its best.

Ichkeul & Dougga
Drive north for 2 hours to Ichkeul National Park. Winter is the best time to visit when migratory birds fill the park. Then drive 3 hours to the ruins of Dougga. Wear good shoes since you'll be walking on steep hills and rough paths.

Kairouan
Spend two nights in Kairouan to properly explore Tunisia's holiest city. Visit the Great Mosque's courtyard in the morning for the best photos. One traveler shared: "Visit the carpet workshops in the medina early – the weavers start their intricate work at dawn and the morning light through the workshop windows is magical."

El Jem & Sousse
Get to El Jem's impressive amphitheater when it opens at 8 AM to beat the crowds and heat. Drive 2 hours through olive groves to reach Sousse. Visit the medina's ribat (fortress-monastery) in late afternoon when it's cooler.
- Day 8
Kerkouane & Nabeul
Visit Kerkouane to see Tunisia's only pure Punic ruins without Roman additions. You'll get a real sense of how Carthaginians lived. Stop in Nabeul to watch local potters at work between 10 AM and 4 PM.
- Day 9
Departure from Tunis
The 2-hour drive back to Tunis can get busy mid-morning. Book an afternoon flight to avoid rushing.

Kairouan to Tozeur
Start at Kairouan's Great Mosque when it opens at 8 AM. The morning light is perfect for photographing North Africa's oldest mosque. Take a scenic 4-hour drive to Sbeitla's Roman ruins. Bring water since there's minimal shade. Another 2.5-hour drive gets you to the oasis town of Tozeur by sunset.

Tozeur Exploration
Take the historic Red Lizard train through the gorges in the cooler morning hours. Star Wars fans will enjoy afternoon visits to Ong Jemel hill to see familiar movie locations. Wear closed shoes since the sand gets very hot.
- Day 5
Douz and Matmata
Drive 1.5 hours across the vast Chott el Djerid salt lake to Douz, your entry point to the Sahara. Visit Matmata's unique underground cave dwellings later. These homes stay cool even in summer. Consider booking a cave hotel for the night.
- Day 6
Sfax and El Jem to Sousse
Start in Sfax's preserved medina. Drive an hour to El Jem's Roman amphitheater and visit before 2 PM for better photos. Finish your day in Sousse where the coastal medina is most lively at sunset.
- Day 7
Carthage and Sidi Bou Said
Get to Carthage's archaeological site early to avoid crowds. Visit the blue-and-white town of Sidi Bou Said in late afternoon light. Remember that many cafes close during prayer times.
- Day 8
Dougga Day Trip
Take a 2-hour drive to Dougga, Tunisia's best-preserved Roman site. Wear good walking shoes for the uneven surfaces. Visit Bulla Regia's underground villas on your way back to Tunis.
- Day 9
Departure
Book your flight after 11 AM to avoid morning traffic. The airport is just 8 km from central Tunis but can take 45 minutes during rush hour.

Our experience was wonderful. Our guide, Yousra, was extremely competent, had a very pleasant personality, and contributed our understanding of Tunisia in a very interesting and informative manner. Every detail was covered carefully, and we felt that we were in capable hands at all times. I also can't say enough about our driver, Louay. Very pleasant, professional, just a terrific person. Flawless guide. Some days were LONG. Perhaps making the trip a bit longer or cut a few medinas/souks. Tunesia is no Katmandu or Hanoi but traffic can be a bit unnerving. For the most part lodging was a bit over the top but that's just me. I prefer "outside" of resorts. It's a full/half board trip and, the variety and quantity of foods was staggering. It did lack "authenticity." The sights of Tunisia will not disappoint. This isn't a trip for mobility impared.

This was such an amazing memorable trip. My tour guide, Mohammad was one of the best I've ever had! He is such a fund of information, knowlegible, funny and engaging all at the same time. The itinerary of this tour was perfect for what my friend and I were looking for. The first 3 days were full of lots of activities and covered a lot of the beautiful country and then had the rest of the time at an all inclusive resort which was great. The food, people, service were great. Overall, I would highly recommend this tour and our guide, Mohammad for any tour that he does. He truly made our Tunisia travels even more memorable. It was like having a wonderful friend show us his home. :)
