8 Day Montenegro Sailing Itinerary, incl. Kotor and Budva
Sailing aboard Gulet Sadri Usta, this coastal adventure visits 6 seaside towns including UNESCO-listed Kotor and historic Perast. From Porto Montenegro Marina, guests visit Sveti Stefan Island and medieval Budva, with swimming stops at Trsteno Bay and Mirista Bay. Chef-prepared meals included.
- Day 1
Tivat to Sveti Marko Island
Board at Porto Montenegro Marina in Tivat at 5 PM. You can arrive earlier to explore the luxury marina complex. Tivat Airport is just 10 minutes away, or you can fly into Dubrovnik Airport (90-120 minutes by transfer). After settling into your cabin, you'll have a welcome briefing and your first dinner near the forested St. Marko Island.

Boka Bay and Kotor
Sail through the stunning Bay of Kotor, often called Europe's southernmost fjord. Stop for a swim at Ljuta Bay before reaching UNESCO-listed Kotor in the afternoon. "The Old Town of Kotor was definitely a highlight - arrive early to climb the fortress walls before the day heats up." You'll have dinner on your own in Kotor's charming old town.

Kotor to Bigova
Start your day with a guided tour of Kotor's medieval walls and churches. Sail south to quiet Dobra Luka Bay for swimming and lunch. Your day ends in Bigova, an authentic fishing village that feels less touristy than other stops. Try the excellent fresh seafood at local konoba restaurants.

Budva and Sveti Stefan
A beautiful day of sailing with stops at Trsteno Bay and the famous island of Sveti Stefan. Dock in lively Budva by afternoon. "Take time to walk the entire length of Budva's city walls at sunset for amazing views." The old town is full of restaurants and bars that come alive at night.

Budva to Lustica Bay
After exploring Budva's old town, visit Jaz Beach (bring water shoes for the pebbles). Swim in quiet Traste Bay before arriving at the modern Lustica Bay development. The protected bay makes for peaceful overnight anchoring.

Herceg Novi
Visit peaceful Tjesna Luka and Mirista bays for swimming. Reach Herceg Novi in the afternoon. "Walk up to Kanli Kula fortress for incredible views over the bay entrance." Spend your evening walking through the town's flower-filled squares.

Perast and Return to Tivat
Your final cruise through Boka Bay includes lunch in Morinj Bay and a stop in beautiful Perast. "Don't miss taking a boat to Our Lady of the Rocks island - the small museum is fascinating." End your journey at Porto Montenegro for a farewell dinner ashore.

Lovcen National Park & Njegusi
Visit Lovcen National Park first thing in the morning. It's just 20 minutes from Cetinje. Climb 461 steps to Njegos Mausoleum at Jezerski Peak (1,657m) before 10 AM to beat the crowds. Drive to Njegusi village for lunch and stop at the "Doors of Heaven" viewpoint. Sample the local prosciutto and cheese. Take motion sickness pills if you get queasy on mountain roads.

Boka Bay
Drive the scenic route to Boka Bay and stop at Brajici viewpoint. Visit Budva's Old Town in the morning before heading to Kotor with its UNESCO-listed walls. Walk the walls before midday to avoid intense heat. Take a short boat ride from Perast to Our Lady of the Rocks island for €5. Plan your bay photos for early morning or late afternoon when the water is calmest.

Lipa Cave & Local Wine Tasting
Start at Lipa Cave when it's cooler in the morning. Bring a light jacket since the cave stays between 8-12°C. Tours last about an hour. Visit the Vukmirovic family vineyard in the afternoon for wine and honey tasting. One visitor shared: "The traditional wine tasting in the old Montenegrin house was a highlight - make sure to try their homemade honey liqueur."

Ostrog Monastery & Rijeka Crnojevica
Get an early start to Ostrog Monastery. Pack modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees. Wear good walking shoes since the monastery sits in a cliff face. Later, visit River Crnojevica where you can take a boat ride near Lake Skadar. Get your best photos from the old road viewpoint above the river.

Biogradska Gora National Park
Travel through Moraca Canyon to reach Biogradska Gora, one of Europe's remaining rainforests. Stop at Moraca Monastery on your way. Take the trail around Biogradsko Lake for a 2-3 hour walk. You can swim in the lake during summer. Look for the park's ancient trees, some over 500 years old and reaching 60m high.

Skadar Lake & Coastal Adventure
Start at Sveti Stefan viewpoint to photograph the famous islet. Visit Rezevici Monastery, then take a boat trip on Lake Skadar from Virpazar. Go early morning or late afternoon for the best bird watching. Many boats serve fresh fish lunches. Book ahead in peak season.

Departure from Cetinje
Plan for a 1-hour drive to Podgorica Airport or 2 hours to Tivat Airport. Watch out for morning traffic around Podgorica.

What people love about 10-day Montenegro tours
The Montenegro gulet cruise was beautiful, calm, and relaxing. The captain and boat crew provided excellent service. The chef and food were amazing! The rooms were cleaned everyday. It was not pleasant having to put the toilet paper in a trashcan but understood the need to do this on a boat. We were disappointed that the air conditioning was not used much for the rooms. It was difficult to sleep at night in a small room with no air conditioning. They should at least provide fans in the rooms. The gulet was spacious and allowed enough room for the 12 passengers. The communication about each day's itinerary could have been better. We had to ask each day where we were going and what the plan was. It was a shame the crew didn't attempt to put up the sails despite having enough wind on some days. It seemed that it would have been too much trouble for them, but it would have been nice for us to experience sailing. Overall, the trip was amazing with beautiful scenery in Montenegro. I would recommend this trip!

Montenegro is an underrated gem! The tour was perfect even though the weather wasn't at all times, but Borislav, our tour escort made sure we plan our day such that we make most of the sunny days as well as enjoy the rainy ones. The tour was well organized, well paced, communication was great and we were well taken care of at every step. We'd love to visit again someday cause 8 days isn't enough to explore this beautiful country!
- Montenegro Sailing - Dubrovnik to Dubrovnik
An incredible experience from start to finish! Montenegro is stunning and travelling on a boat it gave us a totally different outlook on this amazing part of the world. Toni our captain was not just incredible at his job but also such a really nice guy who really took the time to tell us what to do in each of the marinas we docked in and also gave us a lot of useful information that made the experience even better. I am contemplating doing the same tour next year :-)
