14 Day Italy & Greece Itinerary, incl. Rome and Athens
The 12-day Mediterranean odyssey splits perfectly between 6 days in Italy's magnificent art cities and 6 days in Greece and Turkey, including a 3-day cruise. Includes 11 nights of carefully selected accommodations.

- Days 1-3
Rome & Vatican City
Arrive in Rome mid-afternoon to skip the morning traffic. The Colosseum is best visited by 8:30 AM before tour groups flood in. One traveler shared: "The Colosseum was incredibly majestic - truly special." Set aside 3-4 hours for the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. For Vatican City on day 2 get there for the 7:30 AM opening when lines are shortest. End your evening with dinner in the charming Trastevere neighborhood.

- Days 4-5
Florence & Tuscany
Take the 1.5-hour high-speed train to Florence. Wear sturdy walking shoes for the unforgiving cobblestones. "If you're not used to walking, build up some endurance before the trip. Florence's hills and steps can be challenging," advised one traveler. Visit the Accademia Gallery to see David and climb the Duomo in the morning to avoid peak heat.

- Days 6-7
Venice
The train ride to Venice takes 2 hours. Stay in Dorsoduro where you'll cross fewer bridges with your luggage. One visitor noted: "Venice was my favorite city - incredibly romantic and unique. Just be prepared for lots of walking since there's no transport except water taxis." Visit Murano in the early morning before day-trippers arrive.

- Days 8-9
Athens
Book an afternoon flight to Athens (2 hours) since morning departures often run late. Pick accommodation near Plaka for easy access to sites. "Our guide Despina shared Greek history with such engaging storytelling that we were captivated by every word," shared a recent traveler. Start with the Acropolis at 8 AM opening time before the heat sets in.

What people love about 2-week Greece, Italy and Turkey tours
- Best of Greece and Turkey with 3-day Cruise (Small Group)
Overall this was an excellent trip well organized and executed by Tour Radar and Eskapas. Everything seemed to run smoothly and on schedule from hotels to buses to planes to tour boats, transfers, etc. There was only one incident that was a problem, on the cruise ship with a mix up in excursions, but we were able to sort it out. The tour guides were very good overall. Except on the tour to Delphi. The tour guide was speaking in three different languages and it was very difficult to follow her when she changed languages very frequently. The tour guide in Turkey was excellent, very knowledgeable, clear, and well paced throughout.
- 14 Days - Turkish Breeze & 4 Nights Iconic Aegeans
This tour was contracted to smaller day tours. The overall tour company was very responsive and set daily updates for where to meet and when and all transportation was covered. Accommodation was great, although it would have been nice to stay in the old town walls of Antalya. The cruise, while highly organised, was probably a bit too big and very rushed. All your guides had impeccable knowledge of their field and were very friendly. Sometimes the daily itinerary didn’t quite match up to the order listed but all sights were still seen. There were some extra ticket costs not mentioned in the itinerary - usually a few extra hundred lira. Some excursions also had visits to trade centers - carpets, jewelers, leather works, ceramics - and while interesting there often felt pressure to buy.
- Best of Turkey and Greece with 3-night cruise (Small Group)
This was a celebratory trip organised for 4 active young OAPs. This is not a tour for those who like a lie in - it is very packed and requires a fair amount of stamina and fitness going up steps and long stretches of time on your feet. The guide for Istanbul was excellent and was very helpful in ensuring we made the most of the city. The guide for the rest of the Turkish tour was very good, but there were a couple of incidents (eg we were supposed to have admission included to the Harem at the Palace which did not happen - no explanation) but overall he was very organised, knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. The group expanded from 9 to 22 in the Turkey element of the tour (slightly more than the maximum of 20) which might annoy some, but it didn't change the dynamic or quality of the information received. One hotel was particularly grim, with dirty bathroom and very tired furniture and decor (peeling wall paper). But all the others were up to scratch. Food was very variable in choice and quality at each hotel, all of it acceptable, but we didn't expect (or get) haute cuisine!! We organised our own hot air balloon trip in Cappadocia which was half the cost of that offered by the guide. Be careful if you do the balloon trip and Turkish night as you end up getting up at 0300 (yes in the morning) for balloon flight and then not going to bed until almost midnight after Turkish night. There is not much rest the following day as normal start time to travel/tour onwards. The cruise element is very good and a bit more restful (you can opt out of excursions to some of the Greek Islands if you want). Wifi access is exorbitant!!! The trip to the Acropolis was well worth it and after doing a price and logistics comparison with external companies, quickly realised this was a very fair deal offered - as it turns out there were only 8 of us in the group and the guide was excellent. The constant music on all levels of the ship can be annoying, but if you look carefully, there are little pockets onboard that are less noisy. As non-cruisers, we struggled a bit with the whole tender and disembarking priority hierarchy and this became particularly difficult when we needed to disembark on the final morning as we had to catch early internal flights from Izmir to Istanbul. Fortunately we were able to communicate with the pick up transfer but the crew weren't exactly helpful with conflicting information coming from reception. This was an enjoyable, packed and interesting tour, very smoothly run - the cohort we were touring with were a great group of all ages from a family with teenagers to 80 years old.
