Our tour guide, Lucian, was simply excellent. I was amazed at how well he handled various situations that arose during this trip.
This was my second trip with Trafalgar (went to Greece with Trafal…Our tour guide, Lucian, was simply excellent. I was amazed at how well he handled various situations that arose during this trip.
This was my second trip with Trafalgar (went to Greece with Trafalgar last year) and on both occasions our Trafalgar Tour guide was excellent so it seems to me that Trafalgar has a very good selection/development process for their guides.
Now, on this particular trip to Spain, Morocco and Portugal, there are many miles and hours spent on the road. I think the trip could be improved by the following two suggestions...
1) Offering, as an optional experience, a flight between Marrakesh and Seville on day 9 of the trip. This would allow those interested in avoiding the 520 mile drive, overnight stay in Tangier, and 3 hrs for the return ferry crossing (which includes security checks at both ends and customs inspection and portaging your own luggage) of the Straight of Gibraltar. Those taking this elective could then have two free days in beautiful Seville before the rest of the tour group joined them. The stops that would be missed in Casablanca, Rabat and Tangier are very short and of minor importance or interest compared to the sights we saw elsewhere in Morocco, primarily Fez and Marrakesh.
2) At least 25% of our group of 40 tourists contracted lower respiratory and/or lower GI disease on this trip that hung on for a week. Some took antibiotics (available without prescription in Morocco) and improved, so it may have been bacterial. I understand this is not unusual for this particular tour. Given the very long time that people on this tour spend together on the same bus, I suggest Trafalgar have an Epidemiologist look at the tour bus type used, particularly its ventilation, to see if there is a way to reduce the incidence of disease spreading.

This tour offered what we had hoped for. Luciano, our Tour Director, is a consummate professional who organizes and manages his travellers in an excellent way. He ensures that travellers' needs are met and is approachable and always available to assist. So happy to have had Lucian as our facilitator and to have made our tour a memorable one.

Extra excursions should have been included (happy to pay) and gratuities should be included - uncomfortable with tipping, especially recommended tipping on envelopes. Farewell dinner was in 2 areas - should have all been together. Last day those who chose not to do extra, not able to get their rooms for hours - hotel was not ready for us.
Lucian was an excellent tour manager and Antonio (main driver) was also excellent. However, would not travel with Trafalgar again whilst they have the optional extras and tipping in force.

It was more than I could of asked for. The tour operator made our trip a joy and nothing was ever a problem for him. He made an effort to get to know each and everyone on the bus. He made an effort to get to know each and everyone on the bus. Was knowledgeable and could tell by the way he spoke he enjoyed his job immensely. Its nice to see someone that takes pride in his work. I would highly recommend Lucian and Trafalgar. It was my daughters first time in Europe and shes eager to get back.
