I would not have found these places on my own. Although what really made the tour standout from others, was our tour guide Holly. She really made our trip fun and added a lot of value. If there is an option to choose a guide I would recommend asking for her as she was such an asset. She truly went above and beyond to ensure we were all having the best time.

Holly was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. shared fascinating stories and insights about each location we visited, making the tour both educational and entertaining.
The itinerary was well-planned, allowing us to see all the major attractions .
The accommodations arranged by the tour company were great. Some meals included in the tour were delicious and gave us a taste of the local cuisine. While the tour was fantastic, there are a couple of areas that could be improved would have been nice to have a bit more free time to explore some of the locations on our own. The tour was an active tour so please note that is necessary to have some sort of fitness to keep up .
Overall, I highly recommend One Life for anyone looking to have a memorable and well-organized tour experience. Thank you for an amazing trip!
If you only have a short amount of time in Japan and want to optimize your coverage of the country this tour is perfect! You see so much of the country you really get a sense that you can check Japan …If you only have a short amount of time in Japan and want to optimize your coverage of the country this tour is perfect! You see so much of the country you really get a sense that you can check Japan off the list. Some of the highlights for me were Harajuku, Takayama, and Monkey Mountain. Be warned that there is a LOT of walking so be prepared for that especially carrying your luggage. But such an incredible/once in a lifetime trip. Holly was a great guide corralling us around the busy streets and public transit. She had great recommendations for food and free time, especially in Kyoto. One bit of feedback is that the free time is varied so if there’s anything you would need time/reservation for (teamLab, Disney, Geisha show, etc.) be sure to add extra time on the beginning/end of the trip for that and BOOK IN ADVANCE. In Takayama I opted to book a night at a Ryokan Onsen. I got to watch the sunrise from the onsen which was a magical experience I will never forget but did deviate from the itinerary. Overall an incredible trip and would recommend for anyone wanting to see a lot of Japan on a budget!!

I would suggest to avoid this trip at all costs.
I'll begin by saying that the tour guide was nice and this is nothing personal againts her but in my opinion one life adventures should up their stand…I would suggest to avoid this trip at all costs.
I'll begin by saying that the tour guide was nice and this is nothing personal againts her but in my opinion one life adventures should up their standards on who they hire as she really didn't do a good job at all.
The tour guide did not speak the language and did not really know much about most of the places we've been to and that is to put it lightly. At most she would pull up her ipad infront of us and read off a few lines which are the most basic facts about some of the places. For me when I am traveling abroad , especially on a guided tour for which I paid a lot of money I expect to learn a lot about the history, culture and everything else as this is the most important thing for me.
I feel like the tour did not provide any added value , They booked us the cheapest hostels possible , provided a very low amount of meals (which they make sound more impressive on the ad) in a very low quality. All the tour guide did was to take us from place to place and drop us off there to enjoy the countless amount of free time while she leaves to hang out with her friends.
Being a responsible person I booked a few days extra in addition to the trip and made a schedule to go visit all the places I wanted to and knew that are not on the trip. I was shocked at the amount of free time that we had in which there wasn't too much for me to do as I already planned and booked everything in advance for after the trip is over.
On top of that the fact that we didn't get to know in advance the itinerary or when we have free time made is super hard or even impossible to plan out how to spend the free time we had.
Calling this a '10 day trip' is a bad joke as well, It starts past 6pm on the first day and the 10th day is not existant as you wake up at 6am to say goodbye and go on your way. This leaves us with 8 and a half days out of which there are several days spent almost entirely on traveling by trains.
One more thing that added to the feeling of being scammed is the fact that when booking the trip you can add an option to get a return ticket on the bullet train to Tokyo for 275 AUD (currently just over 180$) , some people bought it but when I booked mine online just a few days before the trip ended I paid just 80$. I can understand a small premium for booking the ticket for us but over twice the price is outrageous and honestly should be looked into by someone as this seems like a rip off.
We spent most of the trip with the rest of the travelers trauma bonding over how silly the experience was , for most it was about the TERRIBLE accomedations and lack of transportation which is so much better in other tour companies but as i've said for me honestly it was about having way too much free time , and the tour guide adding nothing of value and just acting as a babysitter who drops us off at some place and tells us when to meet her next.

It was only Holly's second tour on her own and she absolutely killed it and did a fantastic job lugging 17 of us around. I took 3000 pics/videos during my tour and met amazing people which should tell you everything you need to know about how awesome it was.
Biggest takeaways:
- Perfect balance between free time and planned activities
- Your tour guide will be awesome and have everything good to go, so don't stress at all :D
- You will see most (if not all) of what you want to see in Japan
- The people make the tour, and I feel like I got extremely lucky with the people I was on tour with
- You'll have a once in a lifetime trip to Japan!
Slight improvements/recommendations for the future:
- Maybe an upgrade from 1/2 star for the accommodations in Tokyo and Kyoto, more like the hotel in Osaka if you're in those cities for the longest time. Though the rooftop of the hostel in Kyoto was very nice.
- Breakfast in Tokyo isn't really "provided", it's toast and soup. Wouldn't really count it since you'll to go to 7/11 before we head out for the day. The breakfast at the hotel in Osaka I would definitely count.
- Have 2-4 more planned/paid meals (potentially for lunch or dinner).
- Have a large list of recommended food spots for each city and times to go to avoid waiting too long and having to hit 7/11 before the next activity would be good.
- For the food tour in Dotonburi, maybe hand out 1500 yen per person or something and let people stand in line for their own food. Not everyone will want the same thing and everyone is starving after a long day of activities.
- Karaoke on the last night is an EVENT, recommend offering for people to go to Round1 across the street for bowling/arcade if they want to.
- Add Golden Gai in Shinjuku to the list of things to do/see if possible.

For the trip itself, the itinerary was amazing as it allowed us to get a well-rounded experience of Japanese culture. Each day was outfitted with a variety of activities that were all incredibly engaging! All the locations we visited were fantastic but two of them that really made this tour stand out were our home-stay up in Hakone and our temple-stay in Takayama. There was a lot of walking so make sure to be prepared and wear comfortable shoes! Overall, I found the tour to be quite engaging with Holly's amazing guidance, and the friends made along the way made it even better!

Hotels were not very good compared to the type of hotels on other onelife tours. Breakfast half the time in 7/11 eating pastries. I still had fun with the people I met, but as for the tour itself, there's a lot of room for improvement.

It's a really fun tour with a great itinerary. You get to see the big sights in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, but also other less-known places.

Holly’s organizational skills were impeccable, and it was refreshing to feel like I could sit back and relax while she guided us through the bustling streets and subways and fully enjoy my trip. Her knowledge of Japan and each destination was evident, not just in her informative talks about each location but also shined throughout our daily activities.
I felt even more excited to start each day because of Holly’s passion and enthusiasm. She clearly loves Japan, and that love is contagious. Every morning, I found myself excited to start the day because of her energy. She is clearly dedicated to giving each member of the tour the best time they could ever imagine in Japan and that shows in the way she is able to connect with people. Her efforts to get to know each of us felt very genuine and not forced. It is clear she is a very genuine person and actually wants to get to know people. For example, we had a deaf person on our tour and every day I saw Holly practicing her sign language. By the end of the tour she was even forming full statements. So, when we had to leave a spot for example, not only did she say out loud but she also signed ‘ready to go’. That is simply one example of many that I could provide, but no matter the individuals’ interests, circumstances, or backgrounds, Holly found some way to connect to that individual. I think this is a clear reflection of her personability as well as her exceptional character. Her genuine interest in getting to know each person and ensuring that everyone had the best possible time is an amazing quality and not something that is taught or learned, but comes naturally. Her ability to navigate the role of both a friend and a leader flawlessly is remarkable.
I am already considering another tour, and if Holly were to be my guide, I’d book it without hesitation. I do really hope that I will be able to take another tour with her. This has been a unique and unforgettable trip and I am so grateful for everything that I learned and experienced. The bonds that I made throughout this trip are so memorable, and I think the strongest of them all is the one I created with Holly. I don’t feel as if I am walking away from this tour gaining solely memories of Japan, but I also gained a lifelong friend. I sincerely hope that my and Holly’s paths will cross again in the future just so I have the opportunity to further get to know this amazing human being.
Overall, this tour has been such a memorable experience and one that I will cherish forever. Each location that we stopped in had its own charm and I really enjoyed every part. In case I hadn’t said it enough, a big thank you to Holly, she is truly exceptional. BEST. GUIDE. EVER.

Such a great introduction to Japan and Japanese culture (including delicious food). A great mixture between traditional Japan like Kyoto and Takayama and more eccentric and lively cities like Osaka and Tokyo. The tour was organised well and we were always aware of what we were doing and when. The guide, Holly, shared her wisdom of Japanese culture and important sites as we were going around - very informative and interesting!

The tour links together really well - for example the Buddhist that trained in a temple we later visited, the food we ate being founded in places we later visited, all felt like a well planned trip. The travel arrangements are organised perfectly and made getting around Japan super easy - a big plus.
There was more purchasing of my own food than I expected, and the provision of free time sometimes seemed strange, however i appreciate some of this is personal preference.
I would definitely recommend this tour for anyone thinking of doing it - especially if Holly is your guide.

Even though the tour proposes visiting many places, our guide was quite capable of adapting to last minute changes or requests, be it group requests or individual ones. The whole group was set-up on Whatsapp, ensuring that everyone could communicate, share experiences and photos and send travel info along. Holly, our guide, did a fantastic job of coordinating our big group (more than twenty!) and I believe everyone felt comfortable, at ease and listened to whenever something came up. A great first experience in Japan, I'm definitely going back someday.
Extra travel tip: be wary of the summer heat. It's very intense. Light clothing and umbrellas are NOT a luxury. Otherwise, have fun!

With that said I’d definitely recommend extending your tour afterward so that you have a chance to revisit your favourite places or even travel to a new part by yourself!! Both expertly took the group through each location and had a very good understanding of the history, which they thoroughly shared. They often joined the group in our free time and took us to and recommended amazing bars and restaurants that weren’t in the itinerary, their company at those times were always welcomed and appreciated. Not only were they great leaders but great friends and I have no doubt everyone in the group thought of us as a big family <3 The tour would not have been the same without them
The trip was well planned with a healthy mix of independent and group activities, both of which help you to lose yourself in the rich and breathtaking culture of Japan.
The weather in the summer is quite hot, especially with the humidity, you will be a bit sweaty so fans are a must! Most stores have air conditioning so they are a saving grace! There is quite a bit of walking so packing light is recommended if possible, backpacks instead of suitcases would also be best however it’s not required.
Overall I am very happy with purchasing this tour and cannot recommend it enough. Thank you Holly and Beth, I wish you the best with your future travelling and tours :D

No other provider that I've seen manages to pack so much into such a short time. From the neon lights of Tokyo to the absolute beacon of serenity that is Koyasan, this tour does it all. On this tour you will see the 'real' Japan, through sampling the most delicious food, hanging out in some of the coolest bars and finding peace in some of the most beautiful temples the country has to offer. All the while you are led by an incredibly reliable and knowledgeable tour guide who will go out of their way to make sure you're having a blast. Fingers crossed you get either Beth or Holly, who are both phenomenal and a huge part of why I rate this tour so highly. On the tour you will see so much of the country and form such close bonds with your group, you'll wonder how it could only have been two weeks. Come to Japan with an appetite for adventure and a decent pair of shoes (you will walk a lot), and let One Life take care of the rest. I'm certain you won't be disappointed.

I would have loved to receive more information on the sites we visited, it felt more like a guidance to catch the right train rather than getting deep insights into Japan or Japanese culture which is rather unfortunate.
Luckily on the 4 day addition, Sarah took over and provided just that: giving us information and insights that gave significantly more depth to the sites we visited and made the trip more fun! She knew so much about all the places we visited and Japan in general which was really cool.
Hence, the experience was significantly dependent on the tourguide which is hard to see beforehand. But overall I would do another trip like this one in a different country.

Holly was a great guide! Delightful, full of interesting information about each stop and great recommendations for for places to eat and side activities to do during our free time!
My personal favorite day was in Takayama; experiencing the preserved historical market streets, enjoying some sake and delicious fresh local beef skewers and then finishing the night with a dip in a traditional onsen and taking some shots at some traditional japanese archery!
It truly was a once in a lifetime adventure!

Our tour guide Holly was exceptional. She was always on top of things, fixing any issues that arose and making the tour an enjoyable trip. We got to do everything in the itinerary and saw things that I will remember forward.
Do note, they do not exaggerate when the tour mentions you walk A LOT. We walked on average 20,000 steps everyday and my feet were killing me by the end. It was still worth it though
