About me:G'day I'm Blinky! I've been working in tourism for over 5 years now and I have loved every second. Originally born in Wales, UK, I moved to Australia with my family when I was 2 years old. I grew up in a little city called Adelaide and when I turned 21 I decided to start exploring the world. I spent the better half of 2 years exploring in depth, North America, Central America, Europe and South East Asia. Upon returning to Australia I knew I couldn't just finish there and go back to a normal job so I decided to make a career change and get into the tourism industry. I spent a year working as a travel agent, helping plan customers dream holidays, then made the move to guiding. It has seen me travel for work to 5 continents and over 20 countries. I believe travel is more than just getting a stamp in your passport or a photo with a famous landmark. I believe that travel makes us better people. It helps us to understand how the world really work and how different, yet similar we can all be no matter the language we speak, the colour of our skin or the way we eat, we are all the same. Travel gives us the chance to make the positive change we need in this world. So pack your bags, bring your sense of adventure and prepare to see the world like you never have before. Come along for the ride with me in the Philippines, because after all we only have ONE LIFE!

I didn’t know too much about Japan before arriving, and thought that Blinkies information on the history was excellent and any questions which anyone asked he knew the answer straight away. The itinerary was perfect and saw everything there is need to see. Japan is a beautiful country and would recommend highly to using One Life Adventures to anyone especially if you are a sole traveller like I was. Met loads of amazing people on this trip.

I loved this one life adventures tour! There was a lot of walking; most days were over 20,000 steps. Every day was pretty jam-packed, but you got to see so much, and there was still time to nap. Every day was pretty jam-packed, but you got to see so much, and there was still time to nap. The itinerary and included things to do was fantastic, from the crazy Robot restaurant to sleeping in the temple was terrific but a highlight for me was the kendo lesson, it was a lot of fun and very interesting. The accommodations are mostly hostels, but they are clean and well maintained. This is an excellent tour with fantastic value for your money. Blinky was an excellent tour guide and extremely helpful. This was his last tour in Japan for now, but we also had Adam on our trip who was training to be the next guide. He was a lot of fun and will be amazing running the tour as well.
The only thing I will say is that I wished for a little more communication from the company before the tour. Just to be clear, after booking you won't hear much until two weeks before your scheduled trip. But this tour was worth every penny, and I look forward to seeing what other tours the company offers in the future.
Also, if you can, you might want to arrive in Tokyo a few days early, you get to see a lot with the tour, but Tokyo is so big that having the extra days to see everything is worth it. I would also recommend staying an additional day or two in Osaka, I took a day trip to Hiroshima, Miyajima shrine, and Himeji Castle and those sites were terrific.

The one thing I would suggest is to add another city/few days to the current itinerary, such as an extra day in Tokyo or adding Hiroshima. It was a great trip! We managed to do a lot in 10 days: we got in touch with tradition, modern life, Japanese food, martial arts, nature,... quite complete experience! Blinky was a great guide always trying to made each one of us comfortable and taking care of the group. He knows tips and always suggested activities for the free time. For sure, it is a tour with a very good value for money!

I believe what made the trip so wonderful was the combination of the planned itinerary and the group of people on the trip. Really loved the sushi and kendo classes. Really loved the sushi and kendo classes. When we had free time at each site, it was plenty of time to get a good feel of the place. I always want to spend more time at a site, but I’ll have to do that on a return trip. I enjoyed the the shabu-shabu, ramen, The Robot Restaurant and the night we all cooked together. The Maid Cafe was unique (but not for me). The 7-ELEVEN, Lawson’s and Family Mart has a good variety of choices for light lunches and snacks. The accommodations were better than expected. Very clean and weren’t in large dorm style rooms. The Temple has the best shower. Our guide, Blinky, demonstrated the attitude needed on a trip like this... he’s flexible, organized and treats the group members like adults that we are. He would hang out with us, telling stories, playing games and give advice about each place we visited. Though he had not been leading this tour long, you could tell he had worked hard to prepare. He has worked in many other places as well and has loads of stories and advice to share. This trip has a young, energetic feel. The TourRadar indicates an age range, but One Life was not strict about that as I’m older than range states.

- I would have liked more time in Tokyo or Osaka, but it felt like we spent so much time getting to Hakone and Takayama that I'm not sure it was worth including in a 10 day trip. (But that said I really liked Takayama! Staying in the temple was incredible.)
- The hostel in Kyoto was a bit dingy compared to the other accomodation
- I snuck off to an onsen across the street from the guest house in Hakone and it was a treat! I think it was called Hakone Tent? It turned out to be much nicer than the Yutopia in Takayama. Wonder if it would be an alternative to the guest house..?
- I felt the breakfasts were a bit too bready and too sweet, and would have enjoyed trying a Japanese breakfast.
- I would have enjoyed the chance to catch a performance somewhere. Had we started the walking tour of Gion earlier I absolutely would have gone to the performance at Gion Corner.

My husband and I had an absolutely fantastic trip and experience with One Life throughout this tour. From the beginning Blinky was so helpful especially when we were running late to the welcome meeting (oops!). Every day felt like a weeks worth of adventures and Blinky was always there to help with a smile. The itinerary was awesome and we feel very lucky to have taken part in the activities we did - especially the cooking class and kendo with Tomoyoshi Yamanaka.
The accommodation was average, while we enjoyed the traditional Japanese style rooms in Hakone and Takayama, we didn’t particularly like the room or toilets in Kyoto.
The included meals were good, I didn’t expect it to be easy being a veggie in Japan but there were optional available for me.
Transport was as advanced as can be expected from Japan. Days where we moved around a lot on various trains/subways were tiring and sometimes not so enjoyable.

My only suggestion would be to extend the tour to at least 12 days (i.e start on Monday rather than Wednesday) since the first and last days are only for checking in-out without activities so really ends up being an 8 day tour...not a lot of time. Otherwise fantastic tour!

The tour had many good value inclusions that would be hard to find in other Japanese tours. I did a lot of research and read many reviews when choosing a tour and kept coming back to One Life Adventure. There were many highlights with the Kendo class and Mt Fuji being our favourites. We were fortunate to share our tour with a beautiful fun filled group of travellers. We were older than the average age (more like the parents of the group) but felt we fitted in just fine. Overall I thought it was a great combination of amazing activities and enough free time. The accomodations were all great and at perfect locations. Transport was in the form of public transport, but after all in Japan that is the fastest way. Also if you'd plan to come back here again, then being familiair with the trains and subway is a huge advantage. So for me this was also the perfect choice. Last but not least, our tour guide Blinky. He did everything to make the tour even better for everyone and for me he's done a spledid job. A very enthusiastic and positive guy, he knew everything you needed to know, great stories about the country and always good recommendations to do in all of Japan. He was always making sure every single person was having a great time and I'm sure everyone did!

The amount of travel vs the time we had to relax and explore in Hakone and Takayama was a bit unbalanced— by the time we arrived here in Osaka I am feeling pretty exhausted, and I would have loved to been able to spend some more time on either end— or in Takayama, before we moved on. The breakfasts were a bit too sweet and carb heavy for my taste. But my god, the things we’ve seen and done! My friends who lived in Japan are in awe of just how much we crammed in. I had an amazing, amazing, amazing time. Kendo & the temple stay were the highlights in my book.

One Life packs tons of unique and exciting activities into the 11 days that I wouldn't have known about or sought out on my own, but every unexpected event turned out to be a trip highlight. I'm so glad that I chose to go to Japan with One Life for my first big out of the country trip, I wouldn't have wanted my first experience traveling to have been any other way.
Thank you as well to my guide, Blinky. He was really knowledgeable and a fantastic resource whenever we wanted to go off on our own. He did a great job of making sure the tour was on track, on time, and heading in the right direction!

I went as a solo traveller which was quite daunting at first but I just completely embraced it and I met some wonderful people, some of which I am sure I will see again. The tour gave the perfect insight to the crazy mad and wonderful side of Japan, balanced with the traditional, Zen, relaxing side of Japan. The accomodation was always in a perfect location. It was basic at times but perfect for what we needed. I'd say the best accomodations were in Tokyo, Takayama and Osaka. The Kyoto accomodation was very small with few showers but perfectly located. The included transport was also fantastic and the included food, most was basic but plenty. The traditional shabu shabu meals were the best. We went in cherry blossom season and Japan was all I hoped it would be. Blinky was also an awesome tour guide - very knowledgeable and clearly had a passion for his work. If you are sat there like I was, second guessing whether you should go on this tour or not, my advice is take the plunge. You will not regret it.

Perhaps like 5 main cities/locations and a free day after a tour day? So still 10 days total. It doesn’t take much to please people, the night we were in hokone and hat hot pot was so chill and awesome. If more nights ended like that it be the icing on the cake! Overall excellent and def suggesting it to friends!

Some of experiences I would never have thought to do on my own (like the traditional cooking and Kendo classes) were some of the most fun and really made the trip! Our tour guide was super knowledgeable, teaching us all about each of the places we visited and navigating the busy Japanese transport systems with ease. I would definitely travel with One Life again!
This trip was amazing! Our guide did a fantastic job with everything. We traveled all over on many different trains and buses with no issues at all! The accomodation is basic but clean, tidy and located in central/tourist hotspots which means you can optimise your time shopping/sightseeing. The one night in Hakone and one night in Takayama were the highlight in my opinion - a chance to see the natutal beauty/scenery Japan has to offer! Overall the trip is great value for money and includes a number of expensive train journeys and tourist activities - you can enjoy your time knowing these are paid for so you don’t feel like you always have your hand in your pocket! A huge thank you to Blinky, we will forever be greatful for the amazing time we spent in Japan!

It’s hard to pick a defining activity included on the trip, as each day was packed with excursions that were nothing short of awe-inspiring. The tour includes a fantastic balance of old and new Japan within the ten days; from the overwhelmingly entertaining Robot Restaurant to a humbling Kendo lesson in Japan’s oldest Dojo. l found myself asking several others on the tour ‘can you believe this was included in the price?’ You’d be hard pressed to find such a comprehensive and entertaining trip for less.
Being a budget tour, it’s understandable that accommodation will obviously not be The Ritz standard. I joined the tour with low expectations in regards to the places we’d be staying at, and as a result was thoroughly impressed. Yes, they’re basic (you’ll be sharing a bathroom with multiple others the entire trip) but the rooms comfortable and immaculately clean. I’m an unashamed snob, but have had no major problems with any of the accommodation.
The tour guide, Blinky has been an exemplary guide for the entire trip; friendly, knowledgable and most importantly, entertaining. No request is too much for Blinky, he’s been incredibly accommodating of everyone’s wants and needs the entire trip. I feel a tour guide can make or break a trip, but Blinky has absolutely been one of the many highlights on the tour.
Reading this back I’m realising I’m sounding pretty hyperbolic, but I genuinely can’t stress how fantastic of a tour this is. The price was a deciding factor for me when booking, but as I leave, I’m struggling to think what tours twice the price have that this one doesn’t.

But other than that it really packed a fantastic amount of main attractions! Transportation was really easy when it came to luggage and getting around, even with a suitcase I was perfectly fine as we always went struggling to the next stay to leave our bags. I did feel however the back and forth from Takayama and Kyoto was a bit long winded for just a temple stay and saki tasting; even though that was a highlight for me. Accommodation was really nice in every part of the trip, especially the temple stay!!! The meals were all perfect, whether it was a buffet prepared by Blinky in the morning, or at the few restaurants we went too! Blinky was a lovely host and tour guide! He was so easy to get along with and he really brought the group together! He had a wealth of knowledge and I had no problems asking him for help or suggestions! Big thank you to him for making my 2nd time in Japan such a kawaii and memorable one!

I've took a star off the itinerary because of a couple things that happened.
First (and this is nitpicking), the Tokyo metro politan government building had a huge queue which was obviously just a random occurrence for the time and I totally understand that it's of noones fault. To blinkys credit he immediately found something else for us to do. Just I presumed we'd have some sort of garaunteed viewing if it's on the schedule.
Secondly the sake tasting session had to be changed, originally we were going to taste 12 types of sake (if I remember correctly), but the place we were going was randomly closed so we had to go to another which we only got 2 free tastes, and then blinky paid for another taste out of his own pocket (thank you so much blinky! )
Please make sure that there's some form of communication between places on the itenary and the tour. That's the only critism I had throughout the whole tour! Obviously very nitpicky, sorry!

The only downside of the tour was missing out on the sake tasting due to the place being closed, it wouldve been helpful if this was checked prior to arriving. However our tour guide did make sure we had another sake to try. Other than that minor issue everything else was great and we enjoyed every minute!

Although it was his first time leading the Japan tour, Blinky acted as if he had ran the tour a hundred times. The tour was jam packed with activities, and definitely allowed us to do things we might have missed out on if we were traveling on our own. The sushi making class and the Kendo class were 2 outstanding activities that I felt very fortunate to get to experience while on the tour. This is a very active tour, and I felt the company did a great job explaining what to expect with the emails leading up to the tour departure. Blinky gave us plenty of notice about long travel days and when we would need to bring lunch or snacks with us during transport. He also gave plenty of options for meal ideas to fit everyones budgets. Who knew convenient store food would be so tasty (not the case in the USA)?? The hostels were fine, and cleaner than you could find any where else in the world. Staying in the Buddhist Temple in Takayama was also a treat, and not something I would have had a chance to do if not on this tour! I am so happy I chose this tour with One Life Adventures over all the other options on Tour Radar. We will use this company again in the future for sure!

Favourite experience had to be hanging out with the locals in Port Barton, One Life are really good at giving back to the community and this was shown by how much the locals looked after us! The awesome guys from the local basketball team (that One Life sponsors) were hanging out at the bar with us which was pretty cool. Our tour guide Blinky was one of the best blokes I’ve ever met, seriously good at his job - showed he really cared by making sure everyone had eaten before him and carried us back to the accomodation (sometimes literally) after a few too many late night drinks.
Exceptional value for money, 10/10 highly recommend - will definitely be joining One Life in another country.

The itinerary has everything you would want to do and more - if you were travelling on your own you wouldn’t do half the things One Life offers, e.g the prison, camping on a private island and the Philippine Experience which was such a good day. All the activities you provide are great, only suggestion would be to have more chill time at the beginning to get to know everyone better from the start (rather than the chill time at the end in El Nido).
Food was really good, only dislike like was the restaurant we went to in Puerto Princesa, not a good choice for fussy eaters.
Our plane was delayed to Palawan which is obviously the airports fault but if there is an earlier plane I suggest going with that one as the 1 night stay in PP and the prison was a bit rushed (and this could be a key time for everyone to get to know each other and chill at the really nice hotel there) - our meeting times in the evening also were very early and not much time to shower etc.
Staff on PB boat trips were amazing and so helpful.
My only other suggestions are to advise travellers on the ‘things to bring’ page is to tell people to bring water shoes for the boat trips as walking/swimming in the shallow water close to the coral can hurt. And lastly just to remove kayaking from the El Nido itinerary as this didn’t happen which is one thing we were really looking forward to doing.
Our tour guide (Blinky) was amazing and I can’t fault him. He was so helpful and approachable with any questions we had and he was always in such a positive mood. The little things like making sure everyone’s food was ok and he would always eat after us made us feel well looked after. He was also so good with all the other staff we encountered and the locals.

Very knowledgeable, and passionate in all aspects of his job. On this tour, you'll get to see and do so much in 10 days - it's quite unbelievable! Never did I feel like our trip was rushed.

Our favourite part was the island hopping tour in Port Barton! A night on a secluded beach watching a full moon rise will be a memory of a lifetime!

It was suggested that we bring a backpack rather than a suitcase, in my opinion its unnecessary and a suitcase would be perfectly fine.
All in all it was an experience that I will never forget.

The 10 days were carefully thought out with multiple activities such as visiting a school, island hopping, exploring the underground river and camping on a secluded island. One highlight of the trip was staying in Port Barton which is not so built up as El Nido and mixing with the locals. One life adventure work closely with local communities to really make a difference. Blinky went above and beyond to make sure everyone was satisfied and enjoyed the tour.

Trip was amazing, Blinky was very helpful and the overnight camping trip was spectacular. Definitely recommend this tour if you are up for an adventure and don't want to miss anything in Palawan.
