  • Day 1

    Arrival & Evening River Cruise

    Plan about an hour for baggage claim and customs at Budapest Airport. The trip to central Budapest takes 40 minutes but can stretch to an hour during rush hours (8-9 AM and 5-6 PM). Once you've checked in, take an evening cruise on the Danube. The 7 PM boat offers perfect lighting to photograph the lit-up Parliament building.     Visit the baths right when they open at 6 AM for a peaceful morning swim. You'll need flip-flops and possibly a swim cap for certain pools.     Danube Bend Day Trip

    Leave at 9 AM for this full-day trip. The comfortable coach ride to Esztergom takes about 1.5 hours. You'll visit Hungary's largest cathedral and continue to Visegrád for beautiful river views. From May to September you can return by boat for a different view of the Danube Bend. If water levels are low the return will be by coach instead. Bring extra layers since the hilltop locations can be much cooler than Budapest, especially in windy conditions.

    Departure Day

    Book your hotel pickup 4 hours before your flight time to account for Budapest's unpredictable morning traffic. Hotel checkout is at noon but most places will store your luggage if needed. If you have time in the morning visit the Great Market Hall which opens at 6 AM on weekdays. The upper floor is perfect for buying Hungarian paprika or traditional souvenirs.

  • Day 1

Start your trip in the Jewish Quarter, where you'll find Budapest's unique ruin bars - old buildings turned into cool pubs.     Historic Core & River Views

    Start with the 10am walking tour at St. Stephen's Basilica. Get there 15 minutes early and grab coffee at California Coffee Company - you'll need the energy for the 3-hour walk. You'll see the Chain Bridge, Parliament, and the powerful Shoes on the Danube memorial. After lunch, take the included 1-hour Danube cruise. Sit on the right side for the best Parliament views.     Thermal Baths & Castle District

    Visit Széchenyi Baths early - get there by 9am to avoid crowds and get a locker. Bring flip-flops and water. The outdoor pool is beautiful, but check which indoor pools allow mixed genders. After lunch, take the funicular up to Castle Hill or walk up the scenic steps (about 15 minutes). Visit Matthias Church with its beautiful geometric roof tiles.     Final Morning & Departure

    If you have a later flight, leave your bags at the hotel and visit the Great Market Hall. It opens at 6am and looks beautiful in the morning light. The upper floor sells traditional Hungarian embroidery and food. Try langos for breakfast - it's fried bread topped with sour cream and cheese. Take Bus 100E to the airport, allowing 60 minutes for transit plus 2 hours at the airport.
