10 Day Spain & Morocco Itinerary, incl. Seville and Fes
This extensive 10-day tour covers 14 cities, from Lisbon's historic center to Madrid's vibrant capital. Highlights include UNESCO-listed Caceres medieval quarter, Seville's María Luisa Park, and Granada's Alhambra palace. - Day 1
Lisbon to Seville (575 km)
Leave at 7:30 AM from Lutecia Smart Design Hotel in Lisbon. Stop in medieval Cáceres around midday to explore its UNESCO-listed old quarter. "The handoffs between regions can be abrupt, so take advantage of free time in Cáceres to get lunch and explore the Plaza Mayor." You'll reach Seville in time for dinner.

Seville
Start with a city tour of María Luisa Park and Plaza de España. Visit the Jewish Quarter of Santa Cruz before the afternoon heat sets in. The narrow alleys offer welcome shade. You might want to take the optional Guadalquivir river cruise for different views of the city. "The evening flamenco show was a highlight, but bring cash for unexpected performer tips."

Seville to Cordoba (145 km)
Begin at Almodovar Gate in Cordoba. The included Mosque-Cathedral tour is best experienced early before the crowds arrive. Take an evening stroll to see the Roman Bridge lit up at night. "The Cordoba excursion was spectacular, though dinner at the hotel was disappointing."

Cordoba to Costa del Sol (322 km)
Take the scenic White Villages route to Ronda with its impressive gorge. Continue to Torremolinos on Costa del Sol where you'll stay at Sol Principe Hotel. You'll likely arrive in late afternoon.

Costa del Sol to Rabat (480 km + ferry)
Start early for the Gibraltar Strait crossing to Tangier. Ferry schedules depend on weather - bring motion sickness medication just in case. Visit beautiful Asilah on your way to Rabat. A good tip from past travelers: pack small bills and 5 Dirham coins for Morocco.

Rabat to Fes (210 km)
See Rabat's Hassan Tower and Mohamed V Mausoleum in the morning. The afternoon takes you to Fes's UNESCO-listed medina, home to over 785 mosques and 2000 streets. "The Fes medina tour felt rushed through specific shops." Ask your guide about exploring on your own.

Fes to Tangier via Chefchaouen (310 km)
Explore the blue city of Chefchaouen. Visit Outta El Hamman Square early for the best photos. Spend the evening at Hilton Garden Inn in Tangier.

Return to Spain
Return to Costa del Sol before heading to Granada for the Alhambra. Book your time slots ahead. The trip ends with a drive through Toledo to Madrid. One traveler suggests: "Plan extra time in Madrid after the tour - the final drop-off can be abrupt."

- Day 1
Madrid to León to Oviedo
Take the 7:45 AM bus from Madrid's terminal for the northbound journey. You'll spend about 4 hours getting to León. Check out its Gothic Cathedral in the afternoon when the sunlight makes the stained glass windows look their best. After covering 446km you'll reach Oviedo by evening. Bring a light lunch for the bus ride since stops are quick.
- Day 2
La Coruña and Rías Altas
Travel west to La Coruña (3 hours) and walk the seaside promenade for great Atlantic views. In the afternoon visit the fishing villages of Rías Altas. Stop at Pontedeume's medieval bridge at low tide for good photos. The Galician coast gets windy so pack a windbreaker.

Santiago de Compostela
Get to Santiago's historic center early before the crowds. The Cathedral welcomes pilgrims from 7:00 AM and watching their arrival is really special. Watch your step on the stone-paved Plaza del Obradoiro when it's wet. Want great photos? Visit the cathedral at sunset when the stones take on a golden glow.
- Day 4
Rías Baixas and Vigo
Spend the day exploring Spanish fjords with a stop at La Toja Island. You can take a catamaran tour in O Grove ($40) that includes local mussels and wine. Show up 15 minutes before departure. Your afternoon is free to explore Vigo's fishing port. Stop by the oyster sellers at O Berbés market.

Portugal-bound via Viana do Castelo and Braga
Cross into Portugal (bring your passport) and visit Viana do Castelo. Take the funicular up Monte de Santa Luzia for great views. In Braga you can climb 577 steps at Bom Jesus do Monte or take the funicular up and walk down. Porto is about an hour's drive away.

Porto Exploration
Porto is built on hills so wear good shoes. The Stock Exchange Palace limits visitors so go early. Head across the river to Vila Nova de Gaia for port wine tasting. Take a taxi if you want to avoid the uphill walk. Skip the touristy Ribeira district and try Foz do Douro for better local food.

Coimbra's University City
Drive 120km north to Coimbra Portugal's university town. The university library should be your first stop since they limit daily visitors. No photos allowed inside. You'll see students in traditional black capes during term time. Be ready for steep streets in the old town especially in hot weather.
- Day 8
Fátima to Lisbon
Visit Fátima's shrine in the morning before the tour buses arrive. It's 2 hours to Lisbon where you'll arrive for lunch. Consider an evening Fado show with dinner ($65) but book ahead. Lisbon has lots of hills so use the historic trams or taxis when needed.
- Day 9
Lisbon Exploration
Start at Belém Tower at 10 AM opening time to avoid crowds. Book Jerónimos Monastery tickets online to skip the lines. Spend your afternoon in the Alfama district but wear good shoes for the uneven cobblestones. If you visit Sintra pick just one palace since there's lots of walking.

Return to Madrid via Cáceres
The 613 km drive to Madrid includes a stop in Cáceres. Visit Plaza Mayor at lunch when it's quieter. The medieval area is small but steep. Plan to reach Madrid before rush hour in the evening.

What people love about 10-day Portugal and Spain tours
There are a few things that could've been done better, but the overall was okay. Some of the tour operator guides were not organized or get flustered with such large groups. The optional added activities were nice. For the shopping on the tours, the guides only took you to stores or even restaurants where they got some type of kick back or comission which they should give us the choice where we want to shop and maybe have those as options. Also the tour operator did not drop us off at the end of the tour to the tour office as stated in itinerary. We had to get off stops where other people continued their trip. They should have had a set location to drop people off at the end of the tour. Also, it may be beneficial to the tour operator is they had smaller groups. Overall, people were nice for the most part.
