- Day 1
Costa del Sol to Tangier
Start your Moroccan adventure with a morning ferry across the Strait of Gibraltar. The trip takes about 1.5 hours. Once in Tangier, visit the Caves of Hercules and Cape Spartel for beautiful coastal views. "Our driver was polite, patient and welcoming, not to mention an amazing driver." Remember to keep some euros with you since many Tangier vendors accept both currencies.

Volubilis, Meknes, and Fes
Get an early start for a packed day of sightseeing. Visit Volubilis's Roman ruins in the morning when it's cooler. Bring sturdy shoes since the ancient stones can be slippery. Next, stop at Meknes to see the impressive Bab Al Mansour gate. The total drive to Fes takes about 3 hours. You'll arrive in time to watch the sunset from a medina rooftop.

Exploring Fes
Spend the whole day in Fes el Bali, the world's largest car-free urban area. You'll need a local guide to help you navigate the medina's 9,000 narrow lanes. Visit the leather tanneries early before the heat brings out stronger smells. Shopping tip: Fixed-price shops often charge 3-4 times more than the souks.

Casablanca and Marrakech
Leave early for Casablanca, a 4-hour drive. Visit the Hassan II Mosque, one of Morocco's few mosques open to non-Muslims. Book your tour in advance since times are limited. Head to Marrakech in the afternoon. "Our guide Mohammad put us together with local guides and we saw so many amazing sites!"

Marrakech Discovery
Visit the Koutoubia Mosque early, then explore the beautiful Bahia Palace. The Djemaa el-Fna square gets busy after 4 PM with performers and food stalls. Give yourself at least 2 hours for the souks. If you're visiting in summer, plan indoor activities like palace visits between 12-3 PM when it's hottest.

Marrakech to Rabat
Drive to Rabat (4 hours) in the morning. Visit the Hassan Tower and Mohammed V Mausoleum around 2 PM when crowds thin out. You can take photos of the blue-uniformed royal guards, but ask first. End your day watching the sunset at the Kasbah des Oudaias with its ocean views.

Rabat to Tangier and Return
Start early for the 4-hour drive back to Tangier. Pick an afternoon ferry to avoid morning fog delays. One experienced traveler suggests: "Only pack one piece of luggage per person - you'll be glad when navigating the medinas and ferry terminals."

Tour guide and city experiences were very good. The van was in poor condition, with ineffective A/C (especially under the extreme heat conditions) and bumpy ride. The driver was excellent. We were very disappointed that we were not staying in the same hotels as the other passengers, as we felt isolated from the others having the same experience. We assumed that we were to stay in 4 and 5 star hotels; the first and last night's hotel were very good, Fez and Marrakesh were, in our opinion, less than 4 star. We would have liked more shopping time in Marrakesh rather than extensive visits to sales pitches. The Berber Festival was one of the top experiences that we have had on any trip. We did this trip 43 years ago and loved the Berber Festival as it was at the time; this newer version is beyond exceptional. Overall, it was a very good trip with the exception of the van condition and the B hotels in Fez and Marrakesh.
