3 Day Montenegro & Bosnia Itinerary, incl. Kotor and Trebinje
This 3-day tour highlights Montenegro's finest spots. The first day takes you through Kotor and Budva, followed by a second day in Perast before heading to Bosnia. Comfortable stays with breakfast and air-conditioned transportation included.

- Day 1
Kotor & Budva, Montenegro
Leave Tivat early for the 20-minute drive to Kotor's UNESCO-listed Old Town. Get there before the cruise ships arrive around 10 AM. The fortress climb takes you up 1,350 steps - tackle this early to beat the midday heat and pack water. The path can get slippery when wet so good shoes are essential. Later, take the 30-minute drive to Budva to explore its medieval center. Stay overnight in Budva's new town where you'll find better hotel deals than in the tourist-heavy old town.

- Day 2
Perast & Trebinje
Start your day in the beautiful coastal town of Perast. Boats leave every 15 minutes from the main pier to Our Lady of the Rocks island - tickets cost €5. Next, drive 1.5 hours north to Trebinje in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Your first stop should be Tvrdoš Monastery to sample their wines made by monks using local Vranac grapes. Spend your evening walking through Trebinje's Ottoman old town and trying local Herzegovinian food. Stay overnight in Trebinje.

- Day 3
Vjetrenica Cave & Return to Tivat
Begin at Trebinje's Hercegovačka Gračanica church on the hill for great views. Drive 45 minutes to Vjetrenica Cave, a UNESCO tentative site. The cave stays at 11°C year-round so bring something warm to wear. Visit Zavala Monastery nearby, built partly into the rock, before driving 2.5 hours back to Tivat. Plan your return to avoid the busiest border times between 4-6 PM.

2 Day Montenegro & Bosnia Itinerary, incl. Kotor and Trebinje
The coastal treasures of Montenegro - Kotor and Perast - fill your first day before crossing to Bosnia. Day two brings you back to Tivat after taking in Bosnia's notable sites, featuring Montenegro's prestigious UNESCO locations.

- Day 1
Montenegro Coast & Transfer to Bosnia
Leave Tivat early and drive 30 minutes to Kotor's UNESCO-listed Old Town. Get there by 8:30 AM before cruise ships arrive to see St. Tryphon's Cathedral without crowds. The Kotor Fortress hike takes about 45 minutes. You'll need good shoes and water since the limestone steps can be slick. The best views of the bay are at the midpoint rest area. Take the scenic 20-minute coastal road to Perast next. A short boat ride (€5) brings you to Our Lady of the Rocks island church. Plan for an afternoon boat trip to get better lighting for photos. Getting to Trebinje means a 2-hour mountain drive. Keep your passport handy for the Bosnia border crossing which takes between 15-45 minutes depending on the time of year. Finish your day at the Tvrdoš Monastery wine cellar to sample local Herzegovina wines. A recent visitor shared: "The monastery's underground wine caves were fascinating - make sure to try their Vranac red wine, completely different from what you'd expect in this region."

- Day 2
Herzegovina & Return to Montenegro
Begin in Trebinje's historic center and visit Hercegovačka Gračanica church on the hill for city views. A 45-minute drive takes you to Vjetrenica Cave. Bring a light jacket since the cave stays at 11°C all year. This UNESCO tentative site is home to rare blind salamanders. Stop at Zavala Monastery, partially built into the rock face, before the 2.5-hour drive back to Tivat. Border crossings going this way usually move faster but plan for extra time just in case.

Day Tour from Tirana, incl. Budva and Kotor
A well-planned 12-hour tour covers three of Montenegro's major sites. Setting out from Tirana at 7:00 AM and returning by 19:30, you'll have ample time at each coastal location.

- Day 1
Budva and Kotor
Bring your passport since border crossings take about 30-60 minutes each way. "Despite the traffic and steep roads, our guide made the journey enjoyable and kept us entertained throughout," reports a recent traveler. Mid-Morning: Your first stop is Sveti Stefan. A picturesque former fishing village now operating as a luxury resort. While you can't access the island itself, the coastal viewpoint gives you excellent photo opportunities. Get there early to beat the tour buses and catch the best morning light.Late Morning-Early Afternoon (Budva): This coastal city offers two distinct experiences. The modern area has all the current amenities but the Old Town is where you'll want to spend most of your time. Give yourself about 2 hours to visit St. Ivan Church, St. Mary's Church and walk the medieval streets. Afternoon (Kotor): Kotor is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the trip's highlight. Its streets were built like a maze to throw off invaders in ancient times. Make sure to visit Saint Luke's Church, which locals see as a symbol of unity. A recent visitor put it well: "Kotor was simply unforgettable—rich in history, charm, and incredible scenery."
