10 Day Tour du Mont Blanc Itinerary, incl. Chamonix and Courmayeur
The majestic French and Italian Alps stretch 110km from Chamonix to Courmayeur via Les Contamines and Les Chapieux. Stay 5 nights in mountain refuges, 4 in hotels, savoring regional cuisine while conquering challenging 15-20km daily Alpine routes.
- Days 1-2
Chamonix & Les Contamines
Begin your Tour du Mont Blanc adventure in Chamonix. One hiker shares: "Book some time to acclimate—the views were spectacular but the hike was more challenging than I expected." On Day 2 you'll face your first real challenge: a 15km trek from Les Houches to Les Contamines. Start with a cable car ride to Bellevue. Pack carefully since you'll carry your own gear without luggage transport.
- Days 3-4
Les Chapieux & Into Italy
Take on the tough 15km stretch from Les Contamines to Les Chapieux before crossing into Italy through Col de la Seigne pass. You'll encounter glacial lakes and steep paths on your way to Courmayeur. A fellow hiker warns: "Bring proper rain gear—we got caught in mountain storms and the weather changes fast up there." The mountain refuges are simple but provide filling meals.
- Days 5-6
Courmayeur & Val Ferret
Take time to rest in beautiful Courmayeur. You might want to ride the cable car to Pointe Helbronner (€52) for stunning Mont Blanc views. Day 6 involves a steep 13km climb to Val Ferret. Start your day early to beat the afternoon heat. A TourRadar reviewer notes: "The refuges were comfortable and served good food. You won't starve on this trek."
- Days 7-8
Swiss Section
Your journey into Switzerland includes a challenging 20km hike to La Fouly. After a quick bus ride to Champex the next day, you'll take the "Bovine Way" to Trient. The rocky terrain makes hiking poles necessary. Book your refuge stays early if traveling during peak season (July-August).
- Days 9-10
Return to Chamonix
Finish your circuit with a 12km trek over Col de la Balme back to Chamonix valley. Plan your departure flights from Geneva after noon since the transfer takes 2 hours. Know your fitness limits. This grade 5 challenge includes significant daily elevation changes while carrying a full pack.

- Trekking Mont Blanc
We had a fantastic trip with Denis. The only complaint we would have was with the hotel check in process at the end of our tour. There were rooms available that were given to other people who arrived two hours after we did, while we had to wait in the lobby. This could easily have been avoided if the staff had just assigned us a room that was ready when we arrived. The other rooms would’ve been available upon their arrival. It was very frustrating to sit and wait and be told our room wasn’t ready while at least six other rooms were available and given to guests who arrived much later than us.
