Krakow Arrival
Arrive at John Paul II International Airport and make your way to central Krakow. Traffic gets busy on Al. Jana Pawła II between 4-6 PM, so plan accordingly. Stay near the Main Market Square in the Old Town (Stare Miasto) to be within walking distance of the main attractions and restaurants.

Historic Krakow
Get to Wawel Castle by 8:30 AM when tickets go on sale to avoid the crowds. Walk down to the Old Town afterward to visit St. Mary's Church and hear its famous hourly trumpet signal. Take an afternoon trip to Wieliczka Salt Mine, going 327 meters underground. Remember to pack a light jacket since the mine stays between 14-17°C all year.

Krakow to Warsaw
Visit Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial in the morning if you choose. Book tickets at least a month ahead during summer. Take the afternoon high-speed train to Warsaw. The trip takes about 2.5 hours. Sit on the left side for the best countryside views. Warsaw Central station connects easily to hotels via metro and tram.

Start at the rebuilt Old Town (Stare Miasto). Take the free walking tour from Sigismund's Column at 10 AM to learn about Warsaw's post-war reconstruction. Visit the Royal Castle before the midday rush. Try a milk bar (bar mleczny) for dinner. These old-style cafeterias serve authentic Polish food at local prices.

Warsaw to Gdansk
Take a morning train to Gdansk (3 hours). The station is a 10-minute walk from the historic center. Spend your afternoon at Long Market (Długi Targ) and St. Mary's Church, the world's largest brick church. Want to see the astronomical clock in action? Book ahead for the noon showing.

Gdansk and Tri-City Area
Use the SKM trains to explore the Tri-City region. Visit upscale Sopot and walk Europe's longest wooden pier. Plan to catch the daily organ concert at Oliwa Cathedral at noon. "The organ music in Oliwa Cathedral was mesmerizing - get there 15 minutes early to secure a seat near the front where you can see the moving figures on the organ."

Departure from Gdansk
The airport is 30 minutes from central Gdansk. If you have time before your flight, visit the European Solidarity Centre. It opens at 10 AM and you'll want about 2 hours to see everything and understand Poland's role in ending communism in Eastern Europe.
