11 Day Oman Itinerary, incl. Muscat and Salalah
This 11-day trip covers 14 destinations across Oman, from the UNESCO-listed Jabrin Castle built in 1675 to the ancient ruins of Ubar, the Atlantis of the Sands. Travel in 4x4s through Wadi Bani Awf's steep mountain passes and hike Wadi Nakhr, the Grand Canyon of the Middle East, where cliffs tower 3,280ft above you. Camp for three nights in wild locations including the Empty Quarter and beaches of Khaluf. Dune driving happens in Wahiba Sands and visits to Bedouin homes along the way. Nizwa Fort and its souq are famous for hand-carved khanjars. Walk through rose-filled villages in Jebel Al Akhdar at 6,560ft elevation.

- Days 1-2
Muscat & Hajar Mountains
Visit the Grand Mosque early in the morning before it gets hot. Women should cover shoulders and knees and bring a headscarf. The Muttrah Souq is best experienced in late afternoon when it's cooler and locals are out shopping. On your second day take a 4x4 through the Hajar Mountains to Bilad Sayt village. The 4.5-hour drive includes steep switchbacks so bring motion sickness pills if you need them.

- Days 3-4
Nizwa & Jebel Akhdar
Plan to be in Nizwa for the Friday morning livestock market. Visit Nizwa Fort when it opens at 9 AM to avoid crowds and get clear photos from the tower. Before driving up to Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountain) fill your tank completely since services are limited at 6,560ft elevation. If you visit in March you can see the mountain villages during rose harvest season.
