11 Day Oman Itinerary, incl. Muscat and Salalah
The route stretches across 6 Omani cities from Muscat to Salalah over 11 days. Highlights include UNESCO-listed Bahla Fort, Jabreen Castle's three stories, and the ancient port of Sumharam. Guests stay at Al Asala Resort and Desert Rose camp.
- Days 1-2
Muscat: Begin your journey in Oman's capital.
Visit the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in the early morning. Women need to cover shoulders and knees and bring a headscarf. Get there before 8:30 AM to avoid tour groups and high temperatures. In the evening head to Muttrah Souq when it's cooler and locals are out shopping. If exploring alone stick to the main pathways as the small alleys can be confusing.
- Day 3
Coastal Journey to Ras Al Hadd (340 km):
Follow the scenic coast and stop at Bimah Sinkhole. Bring water shoes since the rocks get slippery. It takes about 90 minutes to reach Fins Beach. Pack food because restaurants are scarce. Your final stop is Sur's dhow building yard to see traditional boat crafting in action.

Wahiba Sands Desert Experience:
Leave early for the 2-hour drive to Wadi Bani Khalid. If you plan to swim bring modest swimwear. You'll need a 4x4 for the afternoon desert drive. Consider motion sickness pills for dune bashing. Pack warm clothes for the cold desert nights.

Nizwa via Sinaw (280 km):
Start at Sinaw's traditional morning market where local Bedouin traders meet. Visit Birkat Al Mouz village but wear closed shoes for the uneven ground.
- Day 6
Mountain Adventures:
Get to Jebel Shams early for the best views of Oman's "Grand Canyon." Stay back from the edges at viewing platforms as there are no railings. Visit Jabreen Castle in the morning before the afternoon heat hits at 2 PM.
- Day 7
Return to Muscat:
Start at Nizwa Fort when it opens at 9 AM. The towers offer great photo spots but watch out for steep stairs. Note that the Amouage Perfume Factory closes on Fridays and Saturdays.
- Days 8-10
Salalah Region:
Take a morning flight to Salalah for better prices. Visit the Heritage Souk before noon when it's busiest. Wear sturdy shoes at Wadi Darbat because of slippery rocks near waterfalls. Visit Mughsail Beach's blowholes during high tide for the best show.

Departure:
Plan for 2 hours at Salalah International Airport before your flight.

Muscat

East Coast
Take a drive to Wadi Dayqah Dam and Wadi Al Arbeieen. Cool off with a swim at the 65-foot Bimmah Sinkhole but bring water shoes for the slippery rocks. Stop in Sur to see the traditional dhow factory, then head to Ras Al Jinz for turtle watching. A visitor shared: "Watching sea turtles stumble onto the beach to nest under the stars was unforgettable."

Masirah Island & Al Khaluf
Take the ferry to Masirah Island to explore shipwrecks and marine life. Book your tickets ahead of time. Next up is Al Khaluf's white sand dunes for beach camping. Pack some warm clothes since desert nights get cold.
- Days 7-9
Salalah Region
Take the southern route to see Salalah's western coast, including Mughsail Beach and the 800m Shaat cliff. Don't miss the ancient port of Sumhuram and Wadi Darbat waterfall. The coastal road to Hasik offers great views but check road conditions first.
- Days 10-11
Mountains
Visit the beautiful Misfat al Abreen village before climbing to Jebel Shams, Oman's Grand Canyon. Get to the viewpoint before sunset for the best photos. The mountain resorts are comfortable but bring warm clothes for the chilly nights.

Nizwa & Jabal Akhdar
Hit Nizwa's Friday cattle market early at 6 AM. See the 17th-century fortress, then drive to the Green Mountain to explore terraced farms and old irrigation systems. One traveler noted: "The mountain villages change dramatically with seasons - time your visit around rose water production if possible."

Wahiba Sands & Return
Take a break at Wadi Bani Khalid's pools before entering Wahiba Sands. Meet a Bedouin family and catch the sunset from the dunes. A visitor suggests: "Book a 4x4 dune drive for sunset - the colors are incredible and your guide knows the best photo spots."
11 Day Oman Itinerary, incl. Muscat and Salalah
This 11-day route from Muscat to Salalah covers 14 stops including UNESCO-listed Ubar ruins, known as the Atlantis of the Sands. The 4.5-hour drive includes steep switchbacks so bring motion sickness pills if you need them.

Nizwa & Jebel Akhdar
Plan to be in Nizwa for the Friday morning livestock market. Visit Nizwa Fort when it opens at 9 AM to avoid crowds and get clear photos from the tower. Before driving up to Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountain) fill your tank completely since services are limited at 6,560ft elevation. If you visit in March you can see the mountain villages during rose harvest season.
- Days 5-6
Wahiba Sands & Coastal Camping
Start with morning pools at Wadi Bani Khalid. Bring water shoes since the rocks get slippery. The 4-hour desert drive needs partially deflated tires so pack motion sickness pills if needed. Khaluf beach camp is basic with no facilities but you'll see incredible stars at night.
- Days 7-8
Duqm & Wadi Shuwaymiyah
Stop at the Rock Garden near Duqm to see ancient formations. Bring lots of water when camping at Wadi Shuwaymiyah. Nights can get cold despite hot days. Stay on marked trails in the wadi for safety.
- Days 9-10
Empty Quarter & Salalah
The Empty Quarter has the most challenging driving conditions. Protect your camera from the fine sand. Visit the Ubar ruins early for the best morning light. The Salalah souq is most active after 4 PM when work ends.
- Day 11
Departure from Salalah
Leave extra time to reach the airport since morning fog can slow you down.

This tour through Oman was an exceptionally enriching and well-balanced experience, covering much of the country and offering a genuine insight into its landscapes, culture and people. Over approximately 4,000 kilometres, the itinerary showcased Oman’s remarkable diversity — from stunning coastlines and dramatic mountain ranges to ancient villages and the tranquillity of the desert. The programme was very well organised, thoughtfully paced and professionally managed by GidOman, with clear and reliable communication throughout. A defining element of this journey was our guide and driver, Aziz. It is immediately apparent that guiding is not merely his profession, but his true calling. Aziz combines extensive knowledge with an exceptional ability to read people; he was highly attentive to our needs and perceptive of our moods, often anticipating what was required without being asked. His experience and sound judgement were evident throughout the trip. A particularly good example was his decision to postpone our visit to Wadi Tiwi until the following morning. Upon arrival, the site was overcrowded, and visiting it at that time would have been far from ideal. Thanks to Aziz’s decision, we returned early the next day, when the atmosphere was calm, the air fresh and only a few visitors were present — making it a truly memorable experience. Aziz is also an excellent and responsible driver, which contributed greatly to a relaxed, safe and comfortable journey over long distances. Throughout the tour, he generously shared his knowledge not only of Oman’s history and geography, but also of Arab culture, customs and socio-economic contexts. His warm and natural sense of humour added to the enjoyment of the trip. Oman itself is a country of extraordinary beauty and left a deep impression on me — especially its majestic mountains and unspoilt landscapes. Thanks to Aziz’s patience and experience, we made numerous photo stops and were able to capture wonderful memories. Oman also felt exceptionally safe, and as a woman I felt comfortable and at ease at all times. I wholeheartedly recommend travelling through Oman with GidOman. The organisation was professional, communication was clear, and the itinerary was comprehensive and well designed. The journey exceeded my expectations in every respect and left a lasting impression. Oman is a country I would gladly return to in the future.
Natural Wonder Oman
- Dubai & Oman
This was an action packed tour —perhaps too much so. It would have been good if we had a couple of half-days off along the way. Or they could have eliminated the day we went to Musandum. It was mostly in a bus. I’m sure Wing Buddy could have found us a boat ride closer to Dubai. Of course, there is so much to see. Dubai and Abu Dhabi were fantastic with an amazing energy that shows they are an up and coming part of the world. On the down side, the guide we had in Oman was very weak, struggling with his English and a real problem with time. He was very personable, but perhaps it was his first tour. We actually had quite a few problems with times with both guides, arriving for meals very late and having to eat cold food, late pickups etc. Communication with the guides was problematic.
