14 Day Spain & Portugal Itinerary, incl. Barcelona and Lisbon
A grand two-week tour spans 6 cities: marvel at Barcelona's Sagrada Familia (3 nights), visit Madrid's Royal Palace (2 nights), roam Seville with an optional Tangier excursion (3 nights), sail through Albufeira's caves (3 nights), and wander Lisbon's historic sites (2 nights).
- Days 1-3
Barcelona
Get to Barcelona early to make the most of your time. Visit Sagrada Familia before 9 AM to beat the crowds and see beautiful morning light streaming through the stained glass. At Park Güell, book either the first or last slot of the day for fewer tourists and better photos. Take a day trip to Girona on day 3, but bring extra layers. The stone streets can be cold in the morning even when Barcelona is warm.

Madrid
Take the high-speed AVE train from Barcelona Sants to Madrid Atocha (3 hours). Visit the Royal Palace early in the morning and use the Plaza de la Armería entrance to avoid long lines. In the evening, explore La Latina for tapas. Remember that locals don't eat dinner until after 9 PM.

Seville
The train ride from Madrid takes about 2.5 hours. Book the late flamenco show around 10 PM for a more authentic experience. If you're planning the optional Tangier day trip, you'll need to start at 5 AM and bring your passport.
- Days 9-11
Albufeira
The coach ride from Seville is about 4 hours. If you get seasick, take motion sickness pills before the dolphin watching tour. Visit the caves between 11 AM and 2 PM when sunlight creates the best views of the rock formations.

Lisbon
Take an early train from Albufeira to get the most out of Lisbon. For Sintra, get there before 10 AM to avoid tour bus crowds. A recent visitor shared: "The walk up to Pena Palace is steep – take the shuttle bus up and walk down to enjoy the gardens without exhausting yourself."

Madrid, Spain
Begin your Iberian adventure in Madrid. A traveler's tip: "The Prado Museum houses one of the world's most impressive art collections - get there before 9am to avoid the crowds." Visit the museum to see masterpieces by Velázquez and Goya before walking to Plaza Mayor for lunch. Your second day is perfect for the Royal Palace area and the trendy Malasaña neighborhood. The metro is simple to use but skip rush hour between 8-10am.

Segovia, Ávila & Salamanca
Start early to avoid Madrid traffic and reach Segovia's Roman aqueduct by 9am. Visit Ávila's medieval walls, best viewed from the Four Posts lookout. Finish in Salamanca where one visitor shared: "Watching sunset turn the sandstone Plaza Mayor golden was magical. Have dinner after 8pm when the locals come out."

Lisbon & Fátima, Portugal
Travel through the Serra da Estrela mountains into Portugal. Visit Fátima sanctuary before 11am to beat the tour buses. Spend a full day in Lisbon exploring Belém and riding the yellow trams. One traveler noted: "The steep hills can be challenging, take tram 28 uphill then walk down through the atmospheric Alfama district."
- Days 6-7
Seville, Spain
Stop at a cork factory in Azaruja on your way to Seville. Give yourself two full days in the Andalusian capital. Visit Santa Cruz quarter in the morning before the heat kicks in. Book Alcázar tickets online to avoid long lines. A visitor's advice: "The Plaza de España is spectacular at sunset but brutal in midday sun. Go early or late."

Tangier, Morocco
Cross the Strait of Gibraltar by ferry (1 hour, potentially rough in wind). Take a guide when exploring Tangier's medina to navigate the winding streets. A traveler suggests: "Bring cash for the souks and expect persistent vendors. Having a guide helps manage the experience." Drive to Cap Spartel for beautiful coastal views.

Costa del Sol & Granada, Spain
Relax on Marbella's beaches before heading to Granada to see the Alhambra. Reserve Nasrid Palace tickets months ahead. One visitor advised: "Get the first morning slot at 8:30am. The light is beautiful and crowds are minimal. Wear good walking shoes - the cobblestones are slippery."

Explore Toledo's cultural heritage in its narrow streets before crowds arrive. Return to Madrid for final-night tapas in La Latina. A traveler noted: "The Madrid Metro runs until 1:30am, perfect for experiencing the city's famous late-night culture."

Tour director Samuel Rivas is very knowledgeable and added fun to the tour. He went out of his way to help our group with questions and/or concerns. My family and I enjoyed all of our destinations and had a very good time! I do, however, believe that two of the tour guides (in Portugal and Gibraltar) may need additional diversity sensitivity training.

Certainly a very different style of coach touring than I’ve previously experienced, in that the main Spanish ground operator VPT has many segmented experiences that they then stitch together to make long journeys for each set of clients. Which means that every few days a new set of folks would join as others left, also we were required to change coaches and guides so that we could complete our given itinerary. For the Moroc section a Moroccan ground operator was used who collected us in Spain. It sounds complicated but it really wasn’t as the organisation was spot on and clear communication was given by our guides. Every coach, VPT guide of local guide or in fact a new handling company we’re all exactly where we expected them to be and right on time. And meeting new people from all over the World on a daily basis only added to the enjoyment. All of this excellent organisation (& nice new comfortable coaches with excellent safe & personable drivers) came at an extremely good price. Not sure quite how they fitted all the meals, guided inclusions and excellent well placed hotels into such a keen price, especially considering that Tourradar, Go Tours, Mundimaric and VPT all ‘clicked the ticket’ on the way through. Well done VPT.

I’m speechless! The activities that were included, were both well planned and organized. They allowed for a great mix of culture, diversity, and education as well as balancing it with the perfect amount free time. The additional excursion offered were THE BEST, ( and very inexpensive) once in a lifetime experiences- who 4 wheel drives in the Sahara desert and then ride camels up the dunes to watch the sunset? *** suggestions*** - create a “ real time” method of contact, although EVERYTHING was as promised, it’s great as a “just in case”-, just in case. -to offer a bus with a WC on it. It actually causes many issues with not having one. Personally we were afraid to drink and that caused water retention/ edema elderly travelers could have problems. - NEVER use The Macarena in Savilla! Definitely not a good representation of such a great tour. Thank you again
