  • Days 1-2

    Ljubljana

    Start exploring Slovenia in its walkable capital. From Prešeren Square, you can follow the Ljubljanica River through the historic center. Visit Ljubljana Castle in late afternoon to avoid crowds and get beautiful sunset views of the old town's red roofs. Tivoli Park offers nice walking trails to get you ready for the bigger hikes ahead.

    
  • Day 3

    Lake Bled

    A 90-minute trip takes you to Lake Bled. The 2-hour hike up Ojstrica viewpoint gives you perfect photos of the famous island church. Be careful on the final part of the trail if it's wet. Plan your visit to Bled Castle around lunchtime to see it when it's less crowded.

    Lake Bohinj

    Lake Bohinj is your home base for two days. Take on the Visevnik summit hike for great views of the Julian Alps. Bring extra clothes since mountain weather changes fast. On day 5, take an easy walk to Savica Falls. Try paddle boarding in the afternoon when the water is calm.

    Triglav Lakes Valley

    Head into Triglav National Park with a challenging 13km hike to Double Lakes mountain hut. The next day, walk to Krnsko Jezero, the biggest Alpine lake in Slovenia. The mountain huts give you bedding but bring your own towel. There aren't many showers, so pack wet wipes.

    Bovec and Soča Valley

    Walk down to Bovec through the beautiful Soča Valley with its green river. You'll see old WWI sites along the way. As one visitor said: "The contrast between the peaceful river and the sobering war memorials really makes you reflect."

    Brda Wine Region

    Switch from mountains to vineyards in Brda. Walk Sabotin Hill for views of Slovenia and Italy. Spend your afternoon trying local wines made from Rebula grapes. Bring a jacket since it gets cool at night even in summer.

    Return to Ljubljana

  • Day 1

    Bohinj to Kobarid

    Through Wine Country to Karst Region

    Coastal Journey to Piran

    Start with UNESCO Škocjan Caves then ride down to Trieste. Take a morning boat to Muggia to join the historic Parenzana trail. The flat coastal route to Piran offers great sea views.
