28 Day Eastern Europe Itinerary, incl. Berlin and Split
A grand 28-day route spans 14 cities across 10 countries, from Berlin to Split. Berlin, Germany
Base yourself in the Mitte district to easily walk to the East Side Gallery and Checkpoint Charlie. "The Berlin Wall sites give such powerful historical context," notes one traveler. Book Museum Island tickets online to skip the long queues at places like the Pergamon.

Krakow, Poland
Take an 8-hour private transfer to Krakow with a stop at Płwniowice Palace. Plan for an early Auschwitz visit and bring warm clothes. One visitor notes: "It was cold and wet, which made the experience even more moving." Spend your nights trying Polish vodka in the Jewish Quarter's underground restaurants.

Prague, Czech Republic

Vienna, Austria
Stop in Český Krumlov on your way to Vienna. Take two full days to explore, starting with a walking tour of Hofburg Palace and St. Stephen's Cathedral. "Don't miss the Naschmarkt for local foods - go in the morning when vendors offer samples."

Budapest, Hungary
Take a 4-hour train to Budapest. Visit the thermal baths - Széchenyi is biggest, but Gellért is quieter. A recent visitor shared: "Budapest has such beautiful scenery and lovely ice cream, cakes and chocolates!"

Serbia (Novi Sad & Belgrade)
Bus to Novi Sad takes 5 hours. See Petrovaradin Fortress before heading to Belgrade. Visit Kalemegdan Fortress for great Danube views. For dinner, head to Skadarlija street after 8pm for Serbian restaurants with live music.

Bosnia & Herzegovina
The drive to Sarajevo takes 7-8 hours but offers nice views. Take the Tunnel of Life tour to understand the war history. In Mostar, visit the bridge early to avoid crowds. "Learning about the Serb/Bosnian war was invaluable," one traveler noted.
- Days 21-22
Kotor, Montenegro
Join a sea kayaking tour for unique views of the bay. Climb the fortress steps early and bring water. "I was very surprised with Montenegro. The people and country were amazing!"

Dubrovnik, Croatia
Drive 2 hours to Dubrovnik. Walk the city walls at 8am to beat the heat and crowds. Stop by the Deša women's cooperative to learn about local culture.

Croatian Coast (Hvar & Split)
Take a 3-hour ferry to Hvar for beaches and boat trips around the Pakleni Islands. Finish in Split with a tour of Diocletian's Palace. One visitor suggests: "Split is best explored before the crowds arrive which made it more comfortable for all."

This was a combined trip/s from Berlin to Budapest and then Budapest to Spit so I had an experience with two different tour groups. The scenery and history is explained so well by our tour guide and learning more about the Serb/Bosnian war was invaluable. Auschwitch was cold, wet and raining and it depicted the conditions under which these people had to survive. Very moving day indeed for all. Budapest has such beautiful scenery and lovely icecream, cakes and chocolates! Spit is a walled city and I was there before the crowds which made it more comfortable for all.

Mostly good accommodation and transportation and great tour leaders. Nice balance of organised days and time on my own to cater for my own interests with suggestions from the tour leader. Coverage or sights and exeriences was well done.
I absolutely loved my 26-day Ultimate Europe trip with Expat! Highly recommend it to anyone considering. I got to see so much and made amazing friends along the way. Some of my highlights included the stunning Rhine Valley cruise, a relaxing boat ride in Ghent, wandering through the charming streets of Ljubljana, and taking in the romance of Venice. I especially fell in love with Burano, with its colorful houses and unique charm. Switzerland was another favorite – the scenery was breathtaking, and I enjoyed exploring even outside of the planned tour. A huge shout-out to Dora, our incredible tour leader, who went above and beyond to make sure everyone had a fantastic experience. And our coach driver was amazing – together they truly made the trip unforgettable.
