2 Countries Young at Heart
I recently finished the Young at Heart Two Countries Tour in Thailand and Cambodia. The reason I did not rate every aspect of this review as excellent, was because of administrative confusion and misc…I recently finished the Young at Heart Two Countries Tour in Thailand and Cambodia. The reason I did not rate every aspect of this review as excellent, was because of administrative confusion and miscommunication. The itinerary was changed several times, the transportation was changed, hotels in Bangkok were changed to a not very nice hotel, and when we initially met up in Bangkok, we were not provided good information and it was chaotic. There were not enough staff for the number of people and groups they brought together, and I felt very bad for the staff who were trying to manage about 80 people who were getting started on the tour.
HOWEVER...when we made it to Chiang Mai from Bangkok late in the afternoon on Day 2, and met up with our Thailand small group guide, Jay, things turned around! Jay was super organized, skilled at bringing us all together, and the rest of our time in Thailand was great. We made it to the elephant camp the next day, fell in love with our elephants, enjoyed bonding as a small group, and thoroughly enjoyed the various Bamboo and Elephant Sanctuary staff members who contributed to a wonderful experience. The food was great, the work was fun, the camp was comfortable, and the surroundings were beautiful.
When we made our way to Cambodia for the second week's adventures (Bamboo administration arranged an overnight bus -13 hours, after first telling us we would fly, then telling us we would be on an overnight train), we met new wonderful Bamboo staff (Dimong and Hornn), Karma Hotel staff, and other great people including New Hope School volunteer coordinator, other tour guides, the Tuk-Tuk drivers, again, all who contributed to a great experience. I worked on a team who rebuilt a house for a three-generation family. It was such fulfilling work! Seeing Angkor Wat at sunrise is an experience I will never forget. There were other interesting and fun activities throughout the week as well.
Myself and the three groups who were all staying at the Karma hotel were all dismayed to learn that it was the last week of work for the Cambodian Bamboo staff who were providing us such a wonderful, memorable experience. It is extremely hard to make sense of this move, and to understand how it fits with Bamboo's stated mission and values.I especially do not understand since it appears Bamboo is continuing to provide travel experiences in Cambodia.
In sum, my review would be excellent if it was just based on the experiences in the small group. But the administrative glitches and miscommunication brought my scores down.

Our schedule for the entire trip was kept busy throughout and looking back its amazing to see the amount that we accomplished in a relatively short space of time. The balance of volunteering work and exploring meant you didn't miss out on experiencing Cambodia's authenticity whilst also seeing a world that's far different to the one that I'm used to in the UK. Our tour guides, Kayla and Dimong were great fun and made the trip all the more worth while. As someone who's never travelled to South East Asia by themselves before they made it very easy to settle in and ensure that everyone got everything they wanted to out of the trip. Would 100% recommend to anyone looking to book the same tour!

She's super chill when everyone's tired, and always up for it when everyone's in the mood for going out. Despite having only lived in Cambodia for a year, she knows the country so well: the people, the food, the bars etc. Leaving this review cos she's a babe and deserves to be in the top 10! Being with bamboo has given me all the confidence i needed to now go and travel the world on my own! that is all down to the loveliest staff who felt more like friends than they did tour guides and ma…Being with bamboo has given me all the confidence i needed to now go and travel the world on my own! that is all down to the loveliest staff who felt more like friends than they did tour guides and made sure we were getting the most out of our time in Cambodia and also catering to our own needs at the same time. Although the weather wasn't the greatest they made sure we still made the most of our time and always made good recommendations of where to go and what to do when we had free time! I feel like i got to know Cambodia and its locals more by doing this trip rather than being on my own which is just what you need when travelling the world! The volunteering aspect of this trip is something i won't forget and i will recommend to anyone to do! It was one of the most fulfilling experiences and made enjoyable by everyone involved! i can't thank Kayla and Dimong enough for these last 3 weeks in this beautiful country, i'm coming away with a new outlook on life.

I've learnt so much about Cambodia and its people, from its devastating history to discovering beautiful islands of which I wouldn't of known had even existed! The combination of our guides was fantastic, they complimented each other so well and although they were our guides they definitely felt like friends we were travelling with. Building a house for a poor family is something I'll never forget and has been the most invaluable volunteering experience. Thank you Bamboo! X

The cambodia trip was amazing.
Again we had micheala which was brilliant as shes great at a job and also an a friendly face to start the tour. Shes always happy and ready to answer questions or info…The cambodia trip was amazing.

We saw many sights such as angor wat, bike rides to more temples, floating villages etc etc. The weather was nice and hot/ sunny which is a plus. The cambodian culture is amazing, all the people are friendly and nice.
The killing fields and learning about the genocide was severely upsetting however there is so much to be learnt about cambodia and i feel privileged to have that experience.
We then spent the end of the tour with the brilliant dimong. Where we volunteered and built a full house in a poor village using bamboo sticks and palm leaves which was such a rewarding experience. Then we headed off to the beach to relax and party for the final week. Dimong is cambodian so could share alot of culture with us which we may not have learnt. But he is also great fun and knows the best party spots and can throw out the dance moves.
Overall an amazing trip yet again. Brilliant weather in cambodia and i cant wait to go back and visit!!

The 2 countries tour was really an amazing experience! Our tour guides Pahn and Dimong were great! They really tried to answer all our questions and made sure we were having a great time all the time.…The 2 countries tour was really an amazing experience! They also took pride in their jobs and countries and they were very helpful with suggesting fun things to do in our free time. They made the experience great! It was interesting to see how people live differently than I do and it opens your eyes a little bit to the world. I also feel like the volunteering activities that we did were actually helpful and I also feel really good about were the money goes that we paid for this trip. I think the trip is worthwhile and I would really like to go on another Bamboo tour.

From the moment I arrived in Bangkok I felt welcomed in as a part of The Bamboo family. Every staff member was very knowledgeable and excited to share their culture and history with us. I felt as if I really got to see what everyday life is like in Thailand and Cambodia. I felt complete support by the Bamboo staff. Pahn and Dimong were amazing! They helped us to understand the importance of the projects we were volunteering for and showed so much enthusiasm. Their love for country was inspiring and heartwarming. I had a wonderful time and I would definitely recommend a Bamboo trip to anyone looking to travel abroad. It was a life enriching experience! I will hold Bamboo, Thailand and Cambodia, my fellow volunteers, and tour guides forever in my heart! I love Bamboo!

The high…I toured Cambodia with Bamboo back in April 2016 and it was the best 3 weeks. I completely fell in love with Cambodia and its people. The tour was brilliant and we saw so many amazing things. The highlight for me was teaching in one of the schools in Siem Reap, everyone was so welcoming and friendly you felt at home the whole time. The tour ran smoothly and there was always someone around if you needed them. Both our guides were knowledgeable and helpful and i couldn't fault them at all. I have since returned to Cambodia because of this experience and the people are still as welcoming as before, definitely the place to be!
