Our whole group have complained but have heard nothing back from the founders. We were definitely overcharged for what we received on the tour. The heaps of meals that is advertised is most definitely an understatement. We were brought to the most expensive restaurants for commission purposes. Our volunteer home stay was an utter disgrace. It was 48 degrees with no water cooler or air con. After we complained they moved us but it totally ruined our first day of volunteering as we were all so tired. Wildlife sos is an amazing organisation and I would recommend any animal lovers to check it out but do not go with a third party. I would not recommend the bamboo company to anyone

Although when I started I thought that us and the people we were helping would get more for the amount I payed. In some projects we would have extra costs such as airconditioning and the food we received was provided by the people we were helping such as the locals and the schools which made me wonder how much these people were getting from this.
Overall I had an amazing time but I thought that for 500USD a week I may have been able to either travel for longer or make a bigger difference elsewhere.

The opportunity to experience both the tourist aspect as well as the cultural realities was very…The tour I took with Bamboo and Arm as our primary guide was all and more than I had hoped it would be. The opportunity to experience both the tourist aspect as well as the cultural realities was very fulfilling. The food was great, the accommodation good to satisfactory in the rural setting. The transportation interesting and at times exhilarating particularly in high traffic areas. Arm is a fantastic guide and handled some difficult situations with grace and professionalism. I would recommend Arm as a guide without hesitation. All staff were excellent, helpful and accommodating. The only negative comment I would make is that there weren't adequate tools for the job as I was involved with the house building. My suggestion would be that more adequate, safe and accessible tools be made available. Other than that slight flaw I would give my Bamboo tour an "A" and Arm an "A+". Bamboo will be high on my list for my next adventure consideration.

Their are days where Heidi is out in 100 degrees heat, has to push a truck out of the mud, rained on, or riding on a tailgate of truck for hours on a bumpy rode with no complains. So, basically exactly the person you want with you on a tour!

My time with Bamboo was everything I expected AND more!! We started off in Bangkok which was a fun way to get to know the people and guides of my group. Surin was a whole different story though, I fel…My time with Bamboo was everything I expected AND more!! We started off in Bangkok which was a fun way to get to know the people and guides of my group. Surin was a whole different story though, I fell in love with the city big time. After a couple of days in Bangkok, we made our way to Surin which was about 7-8 hours away on a train/bus. The work we did in the village was strenuous on some considering the fact that we worked in humidity as well, but it wasn't impossible to get through. Plus, it was definitely worth our time we got with the elephants. It was unreal being so up-close and personal with them. The happiness and joy you see in them as soon as they get in the water is amazing and something I will never forget. We had a lot of free time which was cool too. We had meals prepared for us everyday (which was delicious by the way). The homestay was great and the family we stayed with was so kind and welcoming - everyone in Surin was actually!! The language barrier sucked because as much as I wanted to communicate with all the locals, all we could really say is hi, goodbye, and thank you. I guess study up on your thai before you go, that's something I wish I did! The memories will last forever. I cannot wait to go back. Thank you Heidi, Ae, Doo, TT, Gun, and Noom for an unforgettable experience!!!

My trip with Bamboo was an amazing experience.
I stayed at the same time and place as Sue (2 reviews below) and I find elephants living in the backyard as huge bonus. Yes, the mom was chained up but …My trip with Bamboo was an amazing experience.
I stayed at the same time and place as Sue (2 reviews below) and I find elephants living in the backyard as huge bonus. Yes, the mom was chained up but for me this was self-explanatory why. It’s a huge animal, not used to freely roam around. It would be chained up whether we were there or not. For me it was the same as if you would chain up a big dog so it wouldn’t hurt anyone or themselves. The owners treated the elephants like part of their family. They would take mama and the baby for a walk around the property. The little kids played with the 4 month old baby elephant as it was a new puppy.
You have to do this with an open mind. I’m sure if the table was turn around they would find lots of stuff in our own backyards they wouldn’t like. For example; how is it ok for a big dog to be chained up at the car yard for the whole day and then left alone there for the night as “security”?
I love the fact that I could go in my pj’s before breakfast to see them. Kissing the baby elephant before sunrise was the one thing I would never forget and if my trip began and end there I would be satisfied.
Of course the trip was packed with excitement every day.
I love walking with the elephants and seeing how the Mahouts care about their pet. We were there to show them that there is a different way they can make money. No, we didn’t want to see tricks or ride the elephants; we just want to spend time with them. And this company pays them for it. One day there was a new Mahout and when he joined our group and started with tricks, Heidi our guide immediately explained to him that we don’t want to see it. And I love that, that’s where I felt we made a difference and one more elephant won’t be abused anymore to perform. Thank you Heidi!
Cambodia was amazing! Large part of this was our guide Navorn. He was beyond amazing.
The projects were rewarding for all of us. Teaching was fun with the remarkable kids.
I loved every minute of this trip (ok, ok not the last 5 minutes when cutting bamboo haha) and I would do it again in a split second. Enjoy!

Then we met Heidi The 2 of them together Absolutely hilarious. Elephant Village was great What a wonderful experience with any questions answered easily. Cambodia with Kayla and Maew and Ravi was my favorite part. Useing all the building skills I didnt know I had until Ravi coaxed us into trying everthing. He realy has a lot of knoweledge about the construction side. And like all the guides instant friendships were formed. 4 guides we had ensured an easy and trouble free time was had by all. Thankyou Bamboo.

The program itself could use a little improvement in the teaching structure, but with improvement it will be top notch in no time. Overall, the greatest three weeks! Very life changing!

My experience with bamboo most-definitely reached much farther than my original expectations. Yes, I knew that I was going to have the trip of a lifetime, but I did not know that I would meet the most…My experience with bamboo most-definitely reached much farther than my original expectations. Yes, I knew that I was going to have the trip of a lifetime, but I did not know that I would meet the most genuine and wonderful people that I have met in my lifetime. The friends that I made while residing in the elephant village in Surin, left an imprint on my heart that will impact the rest of my life, never have I known such love from people outside of my family. I think of Ae, Pahn, Heidi, May, Gun, Cha Cha, and everyone else I met every day, which keeps them close to my heart. I hope that everyone gets a chance to have an experience on par with the stupendous time that I had in Thailand. I plan on living there part time, if that gives you a clue to how much my boyfriend and I adored it. I am currently going to university for nursing, and hope to apply to bamboo in the future.

She is such a fun spirit to be around and always inspires and encourages us to give everything a go! I found this programme to be such an unforgettable experience due to the way Heidi made it for us. With all the educational facts about Thailand, Surin, elephants, the queens project (the list goes on) I feel I have come out of this so much more wiser and able to go home to share the knowledge I now have! Heidi has inspired me to continue volunteering in th future. Anyone would be so lucky to have Heidi as a guide. She constantly has this fun witty personality that is hilarious and so good to be around. She made everyone feel so comfortable to be around in a place which was quite a culture shock to most of us! She taught us how to be open minded at all times! I am so grateful I got to meet Heidi and have her as my bamboo guide! She made me feel a part of the bam fam!
