We highly recommend this “Adventures-Abroad”- sponsored small group tour for anyone who is interested in Egyptology and immersing oneself in another culture – to include eating new food (kushari and mesaqa’ah), experiencing unique types of transportation (felucca and camel), and learning about Egypt (past and present) from native guides. We would suggest that your reservations be made no later than six months ahead of time to ensure both your desired time frame and that space is available. Once we committed to our trip, additional information and relevant documents were provided by the expert staff at Adventures-Abroad. They addressed our expectations, abilities, concerns, and the journey that lay ahead. We highly recommend (1) purchasing a pre-tour hotel voucher and arriving in Egypt the day before the tour due to possible flight delays/cancellations and to ensure extra rest, and (2) booking/purchasing the transfer which includes a travel escort who provides invaluable aid in the airport (purchasing a required visa and exchanging currency) and subsequently, the transportation from the airport to the hotel - which is an experience unto itself. James, our tour guide throughout, was extremely professional, experienced, and intelligent. He always had a positive outlook and a great sense of humor. All hotel accommodations were first class – the service (exceptional), the food (culinary delights for the senses), and the rooms (spacious and clean). This tour also included a multi-day cruise on the Nile River. The cabins were unbelievably large, clean, and very accommodating. Over the course of fourteen days, we encountered an array of bucket-list marvels: the iconic Great Pyramid and Sphinx, many wonderful lesser-known pyramids throughout Egypt, the Library in Alexandria, the awesome Abu Simbel, the temples at Luxor, Kom Ombo, Edfu, Dendara, and Karnak, the massive Valley of the Kings, and the Aswan Dam; Additionally, we toured a variety of fascinating sites: both the Egyptian and Coptic Museums in Cairo, ancient churches and holy sites for three religions, and Greek, Roman, and Egyptian archaeological ruins so remarkable, that they often took your breath away. “Classic Egypt – In Search of Pharaohs” was amazing, at times exhausting, but always awe-inspiring.
