You'll spend the night at Roche Plate in basic mountain huts with shared facilities. The next day takes you to Marla across several river crossings. Pack quick-dry clothes and check the weather since these crossings can get dangerous after rain.

Cilaos and Rest Day
Take on the Col du Taïbit pass (2,081m) to connect Mafate to Cilaos. Start by 7 AM since afternoon clouds often block the views. You'll descend into Cilaos on a path with over 400 switchbacks. Use Day 6 to rest in Cilaos where you can visit the embroidery house or go canyoning in the gorges.

Piton des Neiges Summit
Walk through cloud forest to reach Caverne Dufour refuge. For the Piton des Neiges summit (3,070m) leave around 2:30 AM to catch sunrise at the top. Pack warm clothes as summit temperatures can drop below 5°C even in summer.

Trou de Fer and Piton de la Fournaise
The Trou de Fer waterfall trail offers incredible views. Next up is the active Piton de la Fournaise volcano. Make sure your boots can handle the rough volcanic terrain.
