Dear David, Thank you very much for taking the time to post your review on this trip. By way of background, the original Camino philosophy was to create pilgrim footpaths each leading to Santiago. Those were intended for people on foot. More recently, cycle tourism has been introduced as a means to also enjoy the trails. So as you will appreciate the Portuguese Camino is designed first and foremost for walkers. Our cycle itinerary was first introduced in 2016 and a senior UTracks staff member cycled the route to Santiago at the commencement of the season last year. Our notes were adapted for cyclists and whilst the majority follows the walking trail route, there are times where deviating to roads not following the Camino trail is necessary. Our notes provide a clear outline indicating this and for this reason, they reference the cycle route utilising “some dirt roads as well as the occasional rocky path” as well as “minor roads with reduced traffic are customary". Some of the route will follow or cross main roads. Every year we are working on improving our notes and making adjustments to them as local conditions evolve. We are aware that over the past 18 months there has been some re-waymarking of the route for walkers to avoid the asphalt sections, particularly out of Porto and Lisbon. We have been updating our notes based on this but from your assessment there are some improvements still to be made. There are some excellent off line navigation programs which we will include in our pre tour information to complement the guide book, maps and directions we include in our final documents. We are also in the process of lobbying the Portuguese and Spanish governments in regards to improving bike signage on the route. This will happen eventually but we acknowledge that improvements in waymarking for cyclists needs continued evolution. We were most concerned to read that you had a loose pinch bolt on your bike. We have not had this occur before and will certainly make our supplier aware of this. We were pleased to note that you rated the accommodation, transportation, meals and value for money highly. Thanks again for your valuable feedback. Best wishes UTracks

Dear Marna, Thank you very much for your feedback. We are glad to hear that overall the trip went well. We’d be happy to discuss with you what extra information you would have appreciated so we can improve for other clients wanting to travel in the off season. As you mention, you were aware that many restaurants would be closed. My understanding was that this was advised prior to the trip and at your trip briefing. We will certainly mention to others that depending on where they are staying, and what is open, there is a risk you may need to pay for a taxi that could amount to more than you are expecting. We are always trying to improve our trip notes and other documents so that you have a good understanding of what to expect, so we thank you for your feedback.
