Dear Justine Christie, Thank you for taking the time to write this review. Our professional guides are trained to deal with unexpected weather conditions, which happens a lot over here in Iceland. Unfortunately, this makes us amend the itinerary of our tours sometimes but we try to make the best of the situation :) We are glad you enjoyed the food, the accommodation and also noticed the guide taking an extra step for our customers. Best regards, Laura S.

    Mike

    Asked on June 8th, 2026

Will I be sleeping in huts or tents? I see that it says (huts in title), but in the accommodation section it says tents nights 1-3. All is okay, I just need to know if I should pack an inflatable mattress.

Do we have access to hot water in the huts? I like to start my day with a hot coffee and keen to boil up some water if possible.

    • M

      Mike

      TravelerWritten June 2026

Is there a drying area for the clothes in the evening just incase clothes/shoes get wet during the day.

    • Arctic AdventuresOperatorWritten June 2026

Regarding accommodation, you will be staying in mountain huts throughout the trek. The huts are shared dormitory-style accommodations with bunk beds or side-by-side mattresses, so there is no need to bring an inflatable mattress. However, you will need to bring a sleeping bag.

    • Arctic AdventuresOperatorWritten June 2026

As for hot water, yes, you will have access to hot water in the huts. Breakfast is prepared each morning by the guide together with the group, and coffee is included, so you'll definitely be able to start your day with a hot cup of coffee :)

    • Arctic AdventuresOperatorWritten June 2026

Regarding drying clothes, there are no dedicated drying rooms in the huts. However, hikers commonly hang wet clothes and gear inside the huts, on bunk beds or clotheslines, to dry overnight.

    Cathy

    Asked on May 21st, 2026

Slightly worried about the 3rd day where we start the day by going through a stream, then walking 15km. Do you recommend plastic boots or something for that??

    Tour Details
    • Arctic AdventuresOperatorWritten May 2026

We recommend having a spare pair of old trainers specifically for river crossings. So that you could easily swap your shoes to the old ones and you could throw them out at the end of the tour. If you do not own such shoes, then most likely just plain, simple and cheap trainers would be suitable.

Will I need a sleeping bag??

    • Arctic AdventuresOperatorWritten May 2026

Yes, you will need a sleeping bag during the tour. Even though you will be accommodated in huts, the sleeping bags or blankets are not included in the price of the tour. If you do not own a sleeping bag, you can always rent one from us for a small fee of 4500 ISK (~37 USD).

  • B

    Becky

    Asked on January 11th, 2026

Is a self-guided version of this tour available?

    Tour Details
    • Arctic AdventuresOperatorWritten January 2026

The tour is arranged to be done with an experienced guide to assure everyone's safety and well-being. Our support vehicle transports luggage and food between the points where the group spends the night. The guests could choose to walk a bit away from the group during the hikes, but meals are prepared and typically eaten together. Unfortunately, we cannot arrange for someone to do the entire tour on their own, without a guide or support vehicle, but if they intend to carry their provisions, tent, sleeping bag, etc., for 4 days, they could hike the area without booking a tour. The guided tour offers a more comfortable experience, with all the necessary preparations arranged, eliminating the need to carry heavy backpacks and allowing guests to enjoy the trek to the fullest.

  • N

    Natasha

    Asked on August 17th, 2025

On my Tourradar page the tour information and accommodation clearly indicate Huts for our accommodation. Suddenly the email received today from Arctic Adventures indicates Huts OR camping in tent. For a close to $3000 cost for 3 nights & 4 days of hiking and meals, sleeping in a tent is completely unacceptable and not possible for me given my back issues. Kindly confirm that I will be provided with Hut accommodation as per my tour details commensurate with the price.

You received this kind of email because we operate this tour with two accommodation options: huts or tents - but I confirm you booked the one with accommodation in Huts!

    Asked on February 2nd, 2025
