    4.0 - Good

The Avalon cruise was enjoyable up to the final day, the hotel staff whilst good for the duration of the cruise let us down on the final day. We had to leave the vessel at 0700 hrs for the start of monograms London Paris holiday, we were told a light breakfast would be available from 0530 , nothing was there till 0615 and what was there was clearly left over fruit, and not much else. Can't help but feel after leaving expected tips for crew and director the need to look after passengers was no longer a priority. Tomas the cruise director did a good job, he tried to honestly answer all questions. Monograms.... Transfers were all ok, a little hiccup at Amsterdam with tickets for Thayls train. Paris hotel overlooked a construction site with a grand view of scaffolding, roofs and housing, not like we were hoping for in Paris, the room was comfortable and the food and cleanliness of the breakfast area was of concern, as we and others would have to search through dirty plates to find a clean one as there were clearly no washing / rinsing of plates prior to going through the dishwasher, food selection in Paris was good with regional focus, the quality of the cooked food was dissapointing with all being at room temperature and bacon was inedible. London Transfers went ok to the hotel , the hotel room once again overlooked a construction site with lights so bright even through the heavy drapes it was like constant daylight, made it hard to sleep, the London room was spacious but no bottled water supplied, the fare for breakfast was the worst, again dirty dried waste on plates and piles of sorted dirty plates left laying around , the selection of breakfast was basic and poor, the hot selection if you could call it that was cold as there was no heating hence the chance of bacterial infection is high, room temp half cooked tomatoes, baked beans and bacon that was not grilled but placed in the oven in a lump with no professional care , skill , or attitude present. I was also dissapointed to find that few of the staff who were mainly Eastern European could understand or speak english, in Paris I understand in Europe I understand but london? I asked a receptionist how to get to Waterloo station, she needed to get someone who spoke English even then it was wrong information. We par took in dinner in the hotels premier restaurant, a very expensive low quality fare that a 15 % un negotiable tip was added. On arrival the Maitre de seated us beside the passage where the dirty plates and cutlery were transported beside us, I asked to change tables and reply was " no one has complained before" we were reseated but there were only 10 other customers in the restaurant. if a restaurant with that attitude towards their customers served food with such poor quality and presentation in Australia they would be out of business . I asked for water from the waitress who could hardly speak English, and was charged £4.50 for water... really! . I asked the waitress for anchovies on a pizza, she did not know what they were, I explained to her, she asked the "Chef" he did not know either, so after asking a 3 rd person they informed me that they do not have any... it is a Italian Restaurant. I have eaten better quality steak in a burger than the cold tough over cooked Rib fillet which was cut with a blunt knife, unprepared for restaurant grilling and service. The steak arrived with a pile of cold chips on the cold plate with a cold steak all for the grand price of £29, a few beans were also way overpriced extra, my wife ordered a pasta dish which was based on crab , what was missing was the crab, just pasta and tomatoe. As a side we ordered Highly overpriced for beans. When the bill came I was not amused but paid . We were not impressed and I spoke with our tour the next morning, he said he was going to follow it up. The transfer to Heathrow was arranged for a time he did not show and needed to asked the conceiege to inquire he finally showed 30 minutes late. In summary the Avalon cruise on the whole was enjoyable, would I use Avalon again .... Monograms and their hotel selection, it was not a cheap extension to our cruise and has left a sour experience. The quality of their hotels and staff in the hotels is a area that needs a lot of improvement. We were not the only ones as many people on a variety of tours we spoke with had similar concerns The tour assistants whilst helpful and made transfers smooth, and assisted in some local knowledge, were in able to do anything on the hotels conditions / status Would we use monograms again...No

Was very pleased with the ease that I was able to understand, and navigate your website. Have actually been looking at several other tour companies, some have played phone tag with me. Others have not bothered to return calls. Their websites have been difficult, to work and understand. Am super excited to be working with you. Am now working on finding affordable airfare. Thanks again. Looking forward to a wonderful adventure. Have already been giving several friends your info.
