this is the feedback i sent to Tour Radar. they promised that the local operator would get back to me.... so far they haven't and its been a week. dissapointing, particularly since it was a pretty good trip except for one of the hotels, where i happened to stay 3 of the 7 nights. ..... Dear sir, I have just returned from my 8-day tour of Peru and wanted to provide you with some very specific feedback - mostly positive (it was a faboulous experience overall) but one significant negative that i think you should address for future customers. First the positive: The logistics were superbly organized. Every pick-up and meeting arrangement was perfect and on time. No delays and no problems. The guides for the various sites were very knowledgable and friendly. I learned alot about the Inca civilization and the history of the Spanish conquests - a lot of stuff that I didn't know. Other observations: In terms of content - there was more free time than i had expected, particuarly in Cusco. This is not a negative but just an observation. the program could have been condensed. For example, the Cusco city tour and the Cusco archelogical tour could have been squeezed into one day. For the archelogical tour, I was finished and back in Cusco by 10:45am with the rest of the day free. The long bus trip from Cusco to Puno took us through some beautful countryside but the stops along the way were a little weak - kind of made up tourist stuff including the 'coffee' place. Hotels: Hotel Libre - Lima - fantastic, clean, efficient and very helpful staff. great location. So good that i canceled my booking at the Marriott (i spent a couple more days in Lima after the tour ended) to go bacl to the Hotel Libre - they even gave me a good rate and helped me cancel the Marriott. Two thumbs up! Hotel Taypicala - Agues Calientes - another great hotel. clean rooms, good location and very very friendly and helpful staff. Hotel Taypicala - Puno - big hotel right on the water but quite far from Puno town. very good restaurant and another set of very helpful and friendly staff - helped me rearrange some logistics including flights, etc Overall, very happy and satisfied with these three hotels. However, my one big complaint is the Samay Hotel in Cusco. I stayed there three nights - two before Machu Picchu and one afterwards. This hotel was not at the same standard as the other three hotels and not worthy of a 'tourist class' upgrade in my opinion. Here are some details of its shortcomings. Location - not great, a little outside of the main square of Cusco but ok. Facility - old, dusty and tired looking. The lobby, dining room and room were not in great shape - dark and dank and just worn. The bathroom was old and cheap - very unpleasent to use. Slowest wifi of my entire trip across South America for 30 days. Cleaniness - very dirty, the elevator smelled of vomit - i thought perhaps there had been an accident but it was the same smell for all three days. The rooms were dusty and had not been cleaned very well. The towels were not fresh nor very white - in fact, they were almost grey in color. Staff: unhelpful, unfriendly and even stroppy. apathetic when i asked about the wifi. could not provide me with a electric adaptor and flat our refused, when i asked them to help me rearrange a hotel in Lima (book the Libre Hotel and cancel the Marriott) - they just said 'no, we don't do that' This was the biggest dissapointment on my trip, made even more so by some of the other really beautiful hotels i saw in Cusco and where my friends were staying. The Samay Hotel is just not a very good place - and not up to the standard of the other places where I stayed. Unhappy that I had to stay there for three nights and seriously considered contacting you while i was in Machu Picchu to try to change to a different hotel for my final night in Cusco. However, decided not to do so because my lugguge was left at Samay Hotel and it would have involved too much hassle. Based on the expereince above and the very generally positive expereince overall, I very strongly request a partial refund based on the poor quality of the Samay Hotel in Cusco. I request a $250 refund. I calculate this based on the 3 out 7 nights that i stayed there (42%) and the 'Single Room/Tourist Class' surchage that i paid ($590). So it's 42% of $590 = approx... $250. I hope that you will consider this and i look forward to your reply. If you have any other questions or if there is any additional information that you require, please reach out to me directly. Regards, Mark Tsang
