Young@Heart tour Spent an amazing 13 days in Thailand - firstly enjoying some great touristy stuff in Bangkok and Ayutthaya then up north (by minibus :-( ) volunteering at a village in the northern mountains, experiencing their warm hospitality. 4 days later on to Chiang Mai up and personal with those beautiful gentle giants. Even got kissed on a regular basis by one lovely lady...if you haven't had a trunk kiss...you don't know what you are missing! To have that connection is very special. And talking of special - our guide ARM is a wonderful person. He really did make our trip unforgettable. thank you Arm.

TT could not have done a better job taking care of my bamboo family during the project. She was our ray of sunshine and still continues to be through keeping in contact over social media. TT is compassionate, loving, and hard-working. She was more than accommodating with arranging transportation to and from our weekend trip to Cambodia. TT really did make sure we all had the best experience possible. If you ever get the chance to tour with her, please do! I promise she will radiate love and light and pierce your soul.

I don't think I have ever left a review before but I felt compelled to make sure everyone has the wonderful experience my son and I had with TT and Bamboo. She is truly a beautiful human being and we feel so blessed to have had her looking after us! She did such a great job. Every detail was always taken care of and we always knew what was happening next. Even after our two weeks were done she met up with us in Bangkok for lunch before our flight the next day. She didn't have to do that but it shows how much she loves us. I hope you have the opportunity to meet her and have her love you too!

My time with Bamboo was everything I expected AND more!! We started off in Bangkok which was a fun way to get to know the people and guides of my group. Surin was a whole different story though, I fell in love with the city big time. After a couple of days in Bangkok, we made our way to Surin which was about 7-8 hours away on a train/bus. The work we did in the village was strenuous on some considering the fact that we worked in humidity as well, but it wasn't impossible to get through. Plus, it was definitely worth our time we got with the elephants. It was unreal being so up-close and personal with them. The happiness and joy you see in them as soon as they get in the water is amazing and something I will never forget. We had a lot of free time which was cool too. We had meals prepared for us everyday (which was delicious by the way). The homestay was great and the family we stayed with was so kind and welcoming - everyone in Surin was actually!! The language barrier sucked because as much as I wanted to communicate with all the locals, all we could really say is hi, goodbye, and thank you. I guess study up on your thai before you go, that's something I wish I did! The memories will last forever. I cannot wait to go back. Thank you Heidi, Ae, Doo, TT, Gun, and Noom for an unforgettable experience!!!

You work up close and personal with elephants and meeting their needs. We go to work most days to cut and haul bamboo, haul water by hand to water the crops, spread fertilizer by hand and hoe the ground. On occasion you will pick up old bamboo and elephant ding and haul it away. It is very hot and humid here and labor intensive during those times in the field. You need to be able to walk long distances and haul at least 20 lbs of weight. The elephants are very majestic and graceful. You walk them several times during your stay about 20 min away to a river and get in and bathe them. There are fans, bug nets and water provided in the village. You sleep on a thin mat on the floor if you need more for your comfort bring it with you. Between time in the village you are in a guest house with running water for shows and dishes. You must buy your own water and pay to wash then hang dry your clothes. A regular bed is available and a kitchen is there to cook with cooking and eating stuff provided. The local food store has pretty much most things you need, but don't forget to pick up extra water, toilet paper and paper towels as these are not provided at the house. You can exchange money and use atm at that store, the store also takes cards. Resturants, drivers and suveniers all are paid by cash. I found a few hundred us dollars to be sufficient. You need to set aside money for you transportation on the weekend and for you final return as this is not included, but they help you set up. Example: 1000 baht to leave program early and go back to surin, 700 baht to ride over night train from surin to Bangkok to get to airport, taxi is about 400-600 baht from train station to bkk airport, typical tuk tuk (open cab taxi on a motor bike fits up to 4 no luggage) 120 to 150 baht each way and they call to make arrangements via facebook group chat and usually takes 15-30 max for you ride to arrive after you ask.
