I'd recommend this trip to someone who enjoys cultural exchange and can get down and dirty trekking, but will also enjoy seeing some larger towns and cities. Loved the village trekking, that was my favorite part! Please note this was a mini 3 day trek that was within the longer tour. Some travelers just did the trek and then left the group tour. You leave for 3 days and then come back to the same hotel where you start in Chiang Mai, so you should bring a medium/standard sized backpack (school backpack size is great) for the trek. You'll be hiking and don't need your full size 50+ liter backpack or suitcase, so make sure you bring that! The trekking was probably max 4 hours of hiking each day. This was fine for me, but some travelers thought they were in good enough shape (but I think they were very non-active people) and had more difficulty completing it, although we did all complete it. I just think the better shape you're in, the more you'll be able to enjoy the scenery instead of pushing through your pain. I loved getting to learn all the ways local people used plants for cooking, medicine, and how versatile bamboo is! I especially enjoyed the cultural exchange with our trek guides. (Note that the trek has you staying in people's homes in villages with no electricity and plumbing. I think it's an amazing experience, but don't take this trip if you won't be able to appreciate the beauty in the simplicity of village living.) Other trip thoughts: I honestly wish that we trekked longer and spent less time visiting other places going south. I would have loved a maybe 5-7 day trek that gave us more time to spend in the villages and learn how to plant rice, harvest crops, weave fabric, etc. The last few days of the trip, we spent a lot of time in the car (4-7 hours each day which I read about in advance but felt even longer after being tired of traveling) and I would have skipped Sukhothai in order to have less car time. I enjoyed visiting the Golden Triangle and to visit Laos for one hour as part of a boat trip there. I liked that we had a local Thai guide whom we could ask cultural questions and I know I enjoyed my vacation a lot more by having a local whom could speak Thai and allowed me to not worry about directions, finding places, etc. Since the tour doesn't do activities in Bangkok and just ends there, my tour guide was really helpful in giving me ideas of things to do and making sure I had a map and helped me book my local train ticket and showed me where to go since I'd be going alone after the tour ended. He was very flexible and always good humoured.
