    5.0 - Excellent

Wow what can I say!!! It was an epic tour. From the heat and excitement of the Amazon, to trekking for 4 days on the inca trail, the view of Machu Picchu, the sacred valley to Salt flats. This tour has it all. It is so well organised with friendly tour guides, great accommodation and food. I would highly recommend this tour!

    4.0 - Good

We began our trip with a city tour of Lima before flying the next day to Puerto Maldonado. After a couple of hours boat ride we arrived at our Amazon jungle lodge. The next couple of days were great as we walked through the forest spotting wildlife, the mosquitoes were out in full force however, the local guide was great as was the accommodation and food here. A particular highlight was the night time boat ride and seeing the sky completely unpolluted by light, it was stunning. Next we flew to Cusco, the altitude noticeably higher, there was a slight change to our itinerary which meant we had a day and half here to begin with. It is a beautiful city, cobbled streets and quaint architecture, great for shopping and eating! When the sun is out it feels really warm but in the shade and certainly at night it dropped incredibly cold. We then proceeded to do the Sacred Valley tour, visiting some archeological sites on a scenic journey, reaching Ollantaytambo at the end of the day. A really nice town again and the local guide that day again was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The hard work began the next day as we embarked on the Inca Trail. It was an amazing experience and one I am glad to have ticked off the bucket list, but it was gruelling at times. If you think there is reprieve in descending there isn’t, it’s just as difficult as the incline. At times it is mind over matter but it is a doable and memorable adventure. I’d recommend definitely having walking sticks and a rain poncho. The environment itself is breathtaking and the culmination of four days trekking at Machu Picchu was amazing. I don’t think I would have appreciated it as much if I hadn’t competed the trail. We returned to Cusco where we had another free day - a recovery day! We drove by public bus from Cusco to Puno, a very luxurious bus, and another beautifully scenic journey. The next day we spent on Lake Titicaca, the floating islands were a particular highlight and Tequile Island was wonderfully unspoiled too as we learned about the local way of life and their traditions. The next day we crossed the border to La Paz, arriving late that evening, the scenery was stunning along the way and it was nice to have some time in Copacabana for lunch and to check out the church. We flew to Uyuni early the next morning for a two day salts flat tour. This was truly awesome and otherworldly, a real highlight of the whole trip, local guides again were great and we were well looked after and informed. It gets so cold here which we weren’t quite prepared for and don’t forget your sunglasses. I did find the altitude affected me here particularly when we went to hike on Tunupa Volcano. We returned to La Paz on the night of the second day. Our final day was spent touring moon valley which is really cool and Palca Canyon which is a great and relatively undiscovered by tourists. We had a short city tour before needing to crash and burn! This tour was full on, I feel physically exhausted after it but loved every minute. I took medication for the altitude which I did need but I wish I had been more prepared for the cold. The accommodation most of the time was pretty basic but to us this wasn’t an issue, it’s just a place to rest your head as you explore the wonders of the place you are in and it is after all a back packing company!
