Overall a great trip - a good tour of Cuba for a short time spent there. My only complaint is that it was relatively poorly organised, I was given incorrect times for bus departures and was dropped off in incorrect locations. I was unable to contact anyone as phones don’t work so overall it was quite a stressful strip. The home stays were great but most of the hosts and tour guides spoke very limited English.

    4.5 - Excellent

Overall I had a great time in Cuba and I most appreciated that Bamba booked my transport buses in advance and the accommodation in Casa particulars in Havana, Vinales and Trinindad. The Casas were all clean, comfortable and had air conditioning. The Havana host even let me go back to take a last shower before I left for the Havana airport. The host Ale in Trinidad was especially friendly and helpful overall. The Viazul buses were straightforward although Bamba said to go 2 hours in advance and that was excessive because even Viazil won't let you check in until 1 hour before in Havana and 30 min before in Trinidad. The bus from Vinales to Trinidad was very confusing- my itinerary said to call Solways tour agency to confirm time and that the pick up was from Hotel Jazmines outside of town so I'd have to take a taxi. In fact the bus left from the centre of town and my Casa host told me the departure point and to go to Cubanacan office. I did not have information about the exact departure time nor the name of the bus I was meant to look for, which ended up being Transtur. The Cubanacan office was not open that early in the morning so there was no one to ask. Luckily the casa host came to wait with me and asked a lot of people which was the correct bus, but even with him it was confusing and we walked back and forth a lot. This information could be a lot clearer & I have seen other comments about this too. The local guides in Havana for the day and night tour were friendly and informative, but the description of the night tour did not match what was offered. The itinerary says the tour is 7 hours from 8PM which would be too long anyway, but mentions being taken out to music places etc. It said to bring 15 CUC. The guide offered to take me to the canon ceremony which would have been 28 CUC inc taxi and we would leave at 7 instead of 8PM. We agreed to just walk around town and see Carnaval instead. The horse tour to the tobacco farm was a little disappointing because the tobacco tour was very short & we did not see the place to buy local rum etc. The horse tour in Trinidad was longer and the scenery beautiful. The estimated time was 6-7 hours but I would say it is more like 3-4 hours. With a little more organization and information about what to expect, this could be a better independent tour!

Cuba is an amazing country. I cannot recommend traveling there enough. The people are friendly, the culture, music and landscapes interesting and highly enjoyable. Don't expect the comforts of home, and always take your own toilet paper everywhere. You need a better than basic level of Spanish to do this tour. Only one of three "bilingual tour guides" could speak more than ten words of English. The Havana tour guide was fantastic. She knew her stuff and did an outstanding job. The Viñales guide wasn't having a good day and gave the impression he couldn't wait to get rid of us, was constantly whipping my horse, not to mention the mangy and unhealthy state the horses were in to start with. The tour guide in Trinidad was much better, and the horses in better health. The Casas were overall good. The first Havana and Trinidad stays were great- super helpful, kind and generous hosts who provides clean and comfortable accommodation. The Viñales stay - bare wires going from the hot water system into the shower head... the Grandmother who cooked for us was lovely, generous and helpful. The other family members less so. The instructions given by bamba were frequently incorrect on our itinerary. Tour and travel times were inaccurate (4 hours from Viñales to Trinidad? Try 8 minimum) We were told we didn't need vouchers for bus travel, yet this made finding the right bus really challenging. The times given were also at least 45mins earlier for the first two buses. In Viñales, try to change the tobacco field tour to the afternoon you arrive, and spend the whole day out at Cayo Jutias or exploring the national parks - a much better use of time and money. Overall this tour was ok, but if you have a decent grasp of Spanish and any confidence traveling, do it yourself. This tour is good for less confident travelers with some Spanish.
Bamba Experience commented on this review
Hello Katyana, Thanks for taking the time to leave a review! All of your recommendations are great and sure to be helpful for future travellers. We aim to provide a real Cuban experience, so we’re glad to hear you enjoyed your homestays at the Casas Particulares! We’ll talk to our local operators to get more bilingual guides so that the communication is always top-notch. We’re sorry to hear about the confusions you experienced. We sent you the same information our operators provided to us, however, since the infrastructure in Cuba is still developing, some confusion may arise. Thanks for your feedback, we will work to make everything clearer in the future! Take Care, Rene/The Bamba Happiness Team
