    4.5 - Excellent

I was very happy with the whole experience on my Central Cuba Adventure. We had a lovely group and all got on really well together. Our guide Nelson was fantastic, with excellent English, very knowledgeable about the country, the history, the culture, and went out of his way to ensure we had a really good time. The transport was good and I thought the accommodation and all the meals provided by our Casa owners was superb. As an overall experience I had a fantastic time, would really recommend G Adventures and their Central Cuba Adventure and would say thanks especially to Nelson for making it an unforgettable experience

Our guide Carlos Ramon was very, very good guide. He told us much about history and all things what you want to know. He was helpful and kind and he understood also very well little older people like us. Transport and our driver was also very good. That was first time when we were in homestays and we liked that. All places were clean, very kindly and location was good. The tour was very interesting and we saw much, but the time in Havanna was too short.

I did this trip in January 2016. The itinerary changed several times - even before the trip started. The joining hotel had changed 2 days before the trip started shut as I was already travelling to Cuba and had no access to the internet I did not get the email from my travel agent. Gadventures did however compensate me for the taxi fares it cost to get to and from the hotel but it wasted 3 hours of our day which we could have spent sightseeing in Havana as the new hotel was just around the corner from where we were staying. The new joining hotel, the Palza, was of a much lower standard than the hotel we should have joined. The room had damp patches on the walls, bare wires coming from the air conditioning unit, which didn't work anyway, and there was a gap of about an inch about the unit through which we could see the outside world. The tour bus broke down before we left the hotel but a replacement was found quite quickly. The tour itinerary was ok but I feel we could have seen some more sights and places of interest en route from town to town. It felt like our guide was trying to get us from 1 place to another as quickly as possible and with the minimum of fuss. Santa Clara wasn't that interesting and one night there was more than enough. Trinidad was a much nicer town and the trip to the beach was welcome although it wasn't the best of beaches it was nice to pass a couple of hours by the sea. Cienfuegos also had a few interesting sites including the theatre in the main square and the museum. The hotel in the centre of town had nice roof terrace bar and a pool on the ground floor which several of our group spent a pleasant afternoon at. The boat trip of Cienfuegos bay was a nice trip but just make sure before you go that you'll be able to get off and look around the fort. We got the impression that we were only allowed off as there was a party of Tiawanese tourists on the boat with us who were getting off for a tour around the fort and the boat would have to wait for them anyway. The big disappointment of the tour was the standard of the accommodation. The Casas, although clean, were very basic and of a much lower standard than I had expected and in some cases I felt very uncomfortable. Generally, with the exception of 1 Casa the hosts did try their best to please. The tour should have been 4 nights in Casas and 3 nights in hotels, however Gadventures changed the accommodation and did not inform us until we were already part way through the trip. Instead of staying in a hotel in Cienfugous we ended up in Casas which are much cheaper then the hotel would have been. I have yet to find out if Gadventures will compensate me for not getting what I've paid for. The guide took us to the hotel we should have been staying in for lunch - I'm sure he didn't mean to rub salt in the wounds but it was much better than the substandard Casa I ended up with. Most of the Casas had lots of stairs which were quite narrow so anyone with mobility problems would have had an issue getting up to their room with their bags. Everyone got sick on this trip one after another and 2 people needed to see the doctor as they had been sick for several a days. I would not recommend this tour owing to all of the changes but particularly because of the accommodation. I'm sure there were much better places where we could have stayed. If however, you are going on this trip make sure you do your homework beforehand and ask the guide to stop at any additional places of interest along the way. Research restaurants as well to make sure you eat in good places and run less risk of getting sick. The guide will only take you to their usual haunts where they're well known which usually aren't the best.
